Title: Sound not working after installing WA and Pets? [RESOLVED]
Post by: timelycorruption on 2011 October 27, 00:53:35
I think this is a DirectX thing? Everything is plugged in correctly, drivers are updated and the sound is as high as it can go. I installed both EPs yesterday (and the Town Life stuff pack) and the sound worked fine while I played with them for a few minutes. I booted up the computer today to play it with a friend and it just cut out during the loading screen and hasn't come back on since. Windows hasn't helped diagnose any problems because it seems to think everything is working fine, even though this is not the case (unless I have come down with selective deafness). I could just be missing something really obvious but I've tried everything I can think of and I think it's likely sims-related because of the timing.

ETA: Turns out my sound card just finally pooped out on me after 4 years of dutiful service and the timing happened to coincide with the installation. New one works fine.

God, wouldn't you be shocked if the sound suddenly came back on.

Do you have sound outside of the sims?

Nope, no sound at all except occasional faint crackling if I plug my headphones in.

If you run a windows OP you could go to your device manager and uninstall your sound card, when you boot back up it will pick your card up and install it again.  Had the same issue years ago.

You don't even have to reboot.  Just "scan for new devices," and it should pick it up, install, and activate.

Tried that and unfortunately it didn't work. While in device manager I did notice that my coprocessor is missing a driver? I scanned online for one and searched my C drive but it couldn't find anything and the manufacturer and driver provider are "unknown". Could this have anything to do with the problem? I don't think so, but I don't know what the coproccessor does, it is listed under "other devices". Googling it leads me to other people looking for drivers for it, which makes me think it is nonessential.
