Title: Sims 2 Style But Elders Keep Dying? Post by: TisiphoneStar on 2010 June 06, 02:55:41 I'm not 100% if this is a bug or a feature but I've used the optional file to enable Sims 2 style aging, so that my other sims don't die when I'm playing other sims; however, I still get messages that other elder sims in the neighbourhood keep dying of old age. Aren't they supposed to be suspended in time? Should I be checking story progression on or off if I want to enable this feature? Thanks!
Sorry about my n00b-ness. 8) Title: Re: Sims 2 Style But Elders Keep Dying? Post by: feistyredhead on 2010 June 06, 02:59:06 Elders still died in the Sims 2, so you will want to turn story progression off
Hope this helps :) Title: Re: Sims 2 Style But Elders Keep Dying? Post by: J. M. Pescado on 2010 June 06, 03:48:47 Elders dying isn't apparently a function of aging, which is why it is not being caught by aging: Elders just randomly die.

Kinda like real life then, right?Title: Re: Sims 2 Style But Elders Keep Dying? Post by: Claeric on 2010 June 06, 05:41:14 Elders just don't technically age at all. The bar goes up because after a set amount of time, they'll die, but before that, they have a random chance of just dropping dead each day. So when aging is off that bar goes nowhere, but that random chance is still there. I think Story Progression won't even stop this- it'll still happen with story progression turned off.

I guess it is kind of realistic, though cynical. Title: Re: Sims 2 Style But Elders Keep Dying? Post by: Claeric on 2010 June 06, 17:05:57 It is a little odd, though, that your town will eventually become a youth utopia devoid of old crones collecting on social security.

They have a certain minimum lifespan and once that is reached they have a certain daily chance to drop dead. And dropping dead is totally a function of aging. It's getting handled in the DayPassedCallback() in the AgingManager class.Title: Re: Sims 2 Style But Elders Keep Dying? Post by: radiophonic on 2010 June 06, 19:03:05 Beats killing them off by hand.
