Title: TS1 Newbie House (7 Sim Lane) Post by: CharmingFirewaller on 2010 February 10, 23:43:19 As a 10th anniversary gift to my fellow sim fans, I've decided to create the Newbie house from the original Sims game. Ever wondered what that tutorial mode home would look like in 3D? Well, just scroll down and see for yourself. :)
Installation: Download and move the package file into your Documents/Electronic Arts/The Sims 3/Library folder. You should find a 40x30 lot once you load your game (Bob and Betty are not included). And it looks just like the original place.

Title: Re: TS1 Newbie House (7 Sim Lane) Post by: CharmingFirewaller on 2010 February 11, 03:38:56 Glad you like it. I was hoping EA would release their TS3 version of it but then I thought, "What the heck, I'll just do it myself."
Happy Simming! :) Title: Re: TS1 Newbie House (7 Sim Lane) Post by: witch on 2010 February 11, 07:00:49 Yep, a definite download for nostalgic reasons.
Title: Re: TS1 Newbie House (7 Sim Lane) Post by: ooglafina on 2010 February 11, 17:23:01 There's something kind of bone-chilling about it, in a a good way.
Title: Re: TS1 Newbie House (7 Sim Lane) Post by: Acid_fairy on 2010 February 11, 20:06:25 Ahh, glad you uploaded it! Thanks for this, hope for some more!
Title: Re: TS1 Newbie House (7 Sim Lane) Post by: spaceface on 2010 February 11, 20:30:13 But... what do you mean, Bob and Betty are not included? :'(
Title: Re: TS1 Newbie House (7 Sim Lane) Post by: Dragon Slave on 2010 February 11, 21:53:29 But... what do you mean, Bob and Betty are not included? :'( I think that's because Bob and Betty are already part of the game, even though they look a little... off (Bob with blond hair?). I'm downloading this and plopping it down in Riverview so they'll have a place to live. They're newlyweds in my game but they still live with Betty's parents. Title: Re: TS1 Newbie House (7 Sim Lane) Post by: CharmingFirewaller on 2010 February 11, 22:00:45 Ahh, glad you uploaded it! Thanks for this, hope for some more! It was my pleasure! :) And I am working on a few Old Town lots at the moment. Suzetter uploaded some screenshots from her TS1 game and I've already done the Gothic Quarter and Bartlet Lake. I'll post pics soon to see if anyone would be interested in play testing them. But... what do you mean, Bob and Betty are not included? :'( I think that's because Bob and Betty are already part of the game, even though they look a little... off (Bob with blond hair?). I'm downloading this and plopping it down in Riverview so they'll have a place to live. They're newlyweds in my game but they still live with Betty's parents. You're right, they're kind of already there and the Bob and Betty I created are kinda fugly anyway. :P Blonde Bob does seem weird though. I guess you could recolor his hair (or make him bald) when you move them into their new place. Enjoy the house! :) Title: Re: TS1 Newbie House (7 Sim Lane) Post by: Sparks on 2010 February 12, 02:51:28 Seeing this, I think I'll install my Sims Complete Collection. I do miss the simplicity of Sims 1.
Title: Re: TS1 Newbie House (7 Sim Lane) Post by: brownlustgirl on 2010 February 12, 03:55:12 Ahh, first house played in Sims games. I was so proud when they got enough money to build a bedroom for their child. Poor kid slept on the couch and was so scared when the thief arrived.
Title: Re: TS1 Newbie House (7 Sim Lane) Post by: That Eighties Guy on 2010 February 12, 11:04:41 Ahh, this brings me back.
I still remember that back then I freaked out from the 'emergency' sound whenever a fire broke out. Title: Re: TS1 Newbie House (7 Sim Lane) Post by: spaceface on 2010 February 12, 12:38:44 Ah, I too remember it well, the day I started playing: how excited they were when a baby arrived and how they cried when said baby was removed by the social worker. :P
Title: Re: TS1 Newbie House (7 Sim Lane) Post by: Acid_fairy on 2010 February 13, 00:53:32 I tried to play TS1 recently and was amazed at how difficult it is! No wonder everyone had that purple magic mirror!
Title: Re: TS1 Newbie House (7 Sim Lane) Post by: Zexion on 2010 February 13, 04:55:52 Whoa trip down memory lane!
I remember I had a baby and it lived in the bedroom with Bob, gosh I was such a noob back then. Title: Re: TS1 Newbie House (7 Sim Lane) Post by: haifen on 2010 February 13, 20:35:35 Needs moar 5 Sim Lane plz.
That is nostalgic, you even got the substandard textures and roof right! Title: Re: TS1 Newbie House (7 Sim Lane) Post by: Simsbaby on 2010 February 13, 23:25:32 Inspired by CharmingFirewaller, here's my attempt at 5 Sim Lane. The house itself is almost identical. The only thing that is missing is the piano. It's a bit dark, so it might help to place some more lamps. No graves, unfortunately. :)

I remember my first time playing that house. The ghosts creeped me out but I got a kick out of watching Cassandra get creeped out. Maybe you could move in some of the Sims 3 characters and kill them off at the Manor. Since it's a prequel it would make sense if they didn't all live until the Sims 1 era.
Title: Re: TS1 Newbie House (7 Sim Lane) Post by: haifen on 2010 February 14, 05:47:29 That looks identical only with better lighting (though still shitty cos I stubbornly haet TS3) and actual 3D rendering.
(http://technabob.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2007/04/super_mario_cookie.jpg) There ya go. Print it out and eat. At the risk of echoing fwAggie: "Then you can say 'I ate bits.' afterwards." ETA: needs moar interior shots for those of us who don't play anymore Title: Re: TS1 Newbie House (7 Sim Lane) Post by: VJay on 2010 February 14, 14:29:13 I've been playing TS1 again for 2 weeks now because TS3 got on my nerves with bloody errors 12; I got so fed up that I decided to give up on it for a while, it drove me crazy.
It's true TS1 is really difficult. Motives decay so fast, it's scary! I sort of play it like TS2 using the kids charms from Makin' Magic to make them grow up, get married and have children, etc When they grow up with a head that doesn't fit, I change it with The Simetamorphoser from Paladin's place. ;D Title: Re: TS1 Newbie House (7 Sim Lane) Post by: CharmingFirewaller on 2010 February 14, 17:21:44 I didn't know that you could age sim children up using magic as I haven't played Makin' Magic much (although I did enjoy its neat features, pretty sparkles, etc.). I downloaded a program that let sims age to teens though. It was a third party software called Sims Grow Up and you can choose which sim kids from your hood to turn into teenagers. The Criminal career was cloned and renamed as "High School" and you could turn them into Adults after a while.
Of course, aging in TS2 and TS3 is way better than that, but it was fun for a while. The fake teens were awfully skinny though..lol Title: Re: TS1 Newbie House (7 Sim Lane) Post by: haifen on 2010 February 14, 20:55:38 I remember that program - the teens were adult sims with freakishly wiry bodies and child heads. They looked weird but what I really didn't like of the program was that if you had Hot Date and you went Downtown, you'd get townies with big heads and the "teen" bodies.
/me shudders Title: Re: TS1 Newbie House (7 Sim Lane) Post by: CharmingFirewaller on 2010 February 14, 23:46:00 I remember that program - the teens were adult sims with freakishly wiry bodies and child heads. Can never go sleep ever again. And don't even get me started on the result of "teen" sims not knowing who their parents are... :-\ Title: Re: TS1 Newbie House (7 Sim Lane) Post by: haifen on 2010 February 15, 00:37:40 LOL that, aging and genetics may have been my favorite thing added during the transition from TS1 to TS2
Title: Re: TS1 Newbie House (7 Sim Lane) Post by: TheSimsandwich on 2010 February 18, 04:38:03 Gotta love that Formica table.
Title: Re: TS1 Newbie House (7 Sim Lane) Post by: SailorTaurus on 2010 February 24, 23:11:00 Hey guys, do you know of any places where I can get good reference images of the old houses from TS1? I'm attempting to make a couple myself and Sims Wikia only goes so far.
Here's my own attempt at 7 Sim Lane (I started making this before I found this thread). (http://i716.photobucket.com/albums/ww168/BishounenTaurus/th_Screenshot-2.jpg) (http://s716.photobucket.com/albums/ww168/BishounenTaurus/?action=view¤t=Screenshot-2.jpg) (http://i716.photobucket.com/albums/ww168/BishounenTaurus/th_Screenshot-3.jpg) (http://s716.photobucket.com/albums/ww168/BishounenTaurus/?action=view¤t=Screenshot-3.jpg) (http://i716.photobucket.com/albums/ww168/BishounenTaurus/th_Screenshot-4.jpg) (http://s716.photobucket.com/albums/ww168/BishounenTaurus/?action=view¤t=Screenshot-4.jpg) Two Sims Store items are used (Cloud 9 counter, 50 sim points, and Sad Clown picture, free). Title: Re: TS1 Newbie House (7 Sim Lane) Post by: haifen on 2010 February 24, 23:49:40 If you still have TS2 installed you can grab Madame Mim's TS1 Lots for TS2 (http://genensims.com/guest/MadameMim/neighbourhoodsS1.htm) and install them and then look over them/take screenshots and go off those. It seems that's as close as you'll get for now. Otherwise you're better off firing up TS1 if you really want to.
Title: Re: TS1 Newbie House (7 Sim Lane) Post by: Madame Mim on 2010 February 25, 20:07:53 That's how I made them for 2, flipping between the two games. You'd be best doing that. That way you don't have to deal with any transcription errors I might have made.
Title: Re: TS1 Newbie House (7 Sim Lane) Post by: Sarah on 2010 March 07, 17:09:50 This is awesome! I cannot wait to get it into my game! Thanks :)
Title: Re: TS1 Newbie House (7 Sim Lane) Post by: Fikcija on 2010 April 09, 14:08:30 Oh, so I'm not so lonely (unique?) in my ideas and attempts. I have also recently rebuilt Bob's and Betty's house in the Sims 3. I will upload a few pictures later today. Nice solution with the two-tile table, I actually put three one-tile tables, since there originally was a four-tile one. I also made Bob in TS3, but still working on Betty, her face is harder to make.
<Edit> So here are the pictures of my version: (http://img258.imageshack.us/img258/8797/screenshot31v.th.jpg) (http://img258.imageshack.us/i/screenshot31v.jpg/) (http://img26.imageshack.us/img26/4093/screenshot30r.th.jpg) (http://img26.imageshack.us/i/screenshot30r.jpg/) Title: Re: TS1 Newbie House (7 Sim Lane) Post by: spaceface on 2010 April 09, 14:30:44 If you want to be unique by having that awful Hamtard Sims 3 signature image, you are wrong. Get rid of it now before somebody else sees it.
