I've been having issues with the new patch as well.  It doesn't seem to want to load up with the framework required to have .package files and mods.  The game hung on loading, and when I removed the mods file from the base game, everything was all hunky dory again.  Just wouldn't run .package files anymore. (note to self: stop downloading EA patches, they fuck things up instead of fixing)

So they really want to kill custom content so we are stuck with the rip-off Shop?

This is not going to end well ...

I would've thought EA had better things to do with their time, like going after the billion or so Blue Sweater GirlTM pregnancy/rape "stories" (and I use that term extremely lightly) that are clogging up their shitty Exchange rather than trying to kill off the very reason why people even bother playing The Sims any more.

ugh. Thanks for the heads up. I'll be refraining from simming until further notice. More work, less play. May be dull, but I've had enough wonkiness with this game for one lifetime and do not wish to experience any more.

Most definitely. I see the official announcement says that it fixes the Windows 7 EADM problem. Snort, snicker....yeah, right.

I upgraded my game to version 2.4.7.004017 and so far my mod folder (.package files) loads just fine. I have not tried it with Awesome Mod in though.

I have honestly almost given up on the Sims 3.  It really is more work than play, especially for someone who won't pay for all of EA's shit.  Whether it is reinstalling everything because the new patch jacks something up, or jumping through hoops over and over again to get custom content to work, I just don't feel like it anymore.  EA seems paranoid and desperate now and it's getting old.  When I get ready to play a game these days, which has been rare, it is usually the Sims 2.  Much less work there.

I really might wait to deal with all of this after it has been out for years and everything is dealt with by the modders and whatnot.  I don't feel like I am missing out on all that much anyways.

The patch is do.not.want.   I don't have the stuff pack, AM is not updated for this patch, and as if that were not reason enough, the following quote copypasta from the official site:

..."Before installing an Update for The Sims 3, an Expansion Pack, or a Stuff Pack, it is a good idea to run through the following checklist to ensure your game continues to work smoothly.

If you have any questions about the below steps, please visit the Technical Support forum on the official Sims 3 community found at this URL: http://forum.thesims3.com/jforum/forums/show/10.page"

I really like the "continues" to run smoothly bit.  I'm still trying to get custom content to show after HD failure and reinstall.  If it is necessary to warn people before installing, I'm thinking it's not such a good idea to do. The really craptastic thing about all of this is that if you open the launcher, the download manager halts all processes until you install. No information unless you shut everything down and go to the website (won't use the launcher to do that).  Pushy little contraption, I tell ya'.  Did they unbreak the broken launcher?

I prefer to wait and see.

I don't really think the warning is a sign of anything evil or nefarious, it's just a standard cautionary warning. Regardless, expect the AwesomeMod update within a few hours.

Right.  I've  managed to get the the game to run with the .package files.  And note well the wording their folks.  It was incredibly slow to load up.  I timed it, 15 minutes in total to get to my actual neighbourhood.  And once there, the game play was incredibly slow and laggy.  And quitting takes forever.  After 6 minutes I grew fed up and did a force quit.

Fuck this shit, I'm going back to Sims 2.  Who wants to play a game that slow and laggy.  Wake me up when they manage to figure out how to make it run properly again.  With CC.  And no kids it aint the processor.  I have a pretty good processor and graphics chip in this machine, above and beyond what the game requires, so that should not factor into it.

EA, the very thought of your odious existence makes me nauseous.

I cannot reproduce your horrible lagging in MY game, so I attribute the problem to something caused by you, because you suck.

Title: Re: Patch 1.9/2.4 Issues
Post by: Immortelle on 2010 February 03, 02:46:56
Well, Pes. Perhaps the reason for you not having lag on your game is because you have a PC.  So you suck for not having a Mac :P

Perhaps it is a build issue.  And something quite possibly caused by the CC.  I have over 360 package items in my game, and I did notice during earlier testing that when I started introducing CC into the game that it did seem be less laggy at some point.  It still is a patch issue, because again, things worked fine prior to the patch.

And whose fault is it that all these Mac people REFUSE TO GIVE ME SHELL so I can compile Mac shit for them? I mean, you don't seriously think I'm dumb enough to pay Apple premium prices for a machine that is physically the same as a PC, do you? Although if you can run Linux software, as you can install Linux on everything, you're good to go, as every TS3 tool I make comes with a Linux version, as I primarily develop them for Linux.

Protip: Try not running the game in an emulator. That never helps your performance. Use that Basic Training thing you have.

Immortelle -  it may be that some packages are broken - I found a raon hair that was loading tens of thousands of times in 3 minutes of play. Is there anything like process monitor for Mac?

I had the same issue before my puper crapped.  It would take sooo long for my game to load it wasn't worth even playing.  When it would finally load, the lag was so bad I wanted to throw the computer out the window.  I'd try to quit and save, but it would take HOURS.  To fix the issue, I found the content I wanted in Sims3pack, used the S3rc to compressorize, then extracted them, grouped them into categories and packaged them.  My game now loads within 3 minutes and I have a little shy of 1 gig worth of content added.

But you're absolutely right.  How much time does it take to get the stupid game to run "smoothly"?  Is it worth all the time it takes to figure out "which" folder "what" file needs to be in, or the proper syntax or text string that's needed to make the content show?  I've actually gotten to the point where I spend more time researching and trying stuff out than I do playing the game. (I kinda enjoy the discovery process though.)  :P  I hope you get everything figured out and enjoy playing once again.

Is there anything like process monitor for Mac?

Not exactly. Personally, I've been using a sort of estimate method, in which I add one new piece of CC at a time. If the load time is unbearably long or the lag is noticeable, I pitch it. It's a pain in the ass, but activity monitor (the mac quasi-equivalent of process monitor) doesn't monitor .package files.

That being said, some past patches have fucked mac users over, so it's entirely possible it's just the patch and not the CC at all. One of the earlier ones caused huge load up times on my macbook, without any CC present at all.

Actually, all current Macs (except for the currently non-shipping $3000 27" model) all use laptop grade processors and the low end GPUs. But hey, at least you get the "joy" of OSX.

After reading this thread, I decided for absolutely no good reason whatsoever to install the patch.  (Meaning that at the moment I have no intention of buying HELS.)  I do not run AwesomeMod, and in fact run very little CC of any sort -- some skintones, a few XML tweaks, Buzzler's mirror, the twallan Supercomputer, a very trimmed-down setup of the Tuneable Core, and that's about it.  I'm running Vista on a year-old machine with a quad-core AMD powerplant, adequate for the purpose but definitely not a high-end gaming rig.

The short form of the story is that everything seems to work fine, at least so far.  Both WA and the base game updated, pretty much without a hitch.  Which is more than I can say for the 1.8/2.3 update.  My guess is the game will in principle be running fine with the AwesomeMod any moment now, if in fact it isn't already.  In my lurking, which is mostly what I do here, I'm reading the comments about how the game works with Windows 7 with interest, since I am considering getting a Windows 7 laptop in the near future.

The Launcher is no more stable following the 1.9 and 2.4 patch on Windows 7 x64 than it was before so if EA fixed anything at all, it is not apparent.

Well, the good news is the game is now running properly.  Took a bit of stuffing around, as even when I sorted out the speed issue I  had problems with hair for the first time since installing WA.  I think the next patch I'll delay installing. And the new stuff pack?  Meh! Complete waste of money! Send it to the Haitians instead.

I patched thinking maybe it would fix the launcher instability for when I actually use the stupid thing to install things. It is maybe an iota more stable - meaning I only have to force it to shut down 6 times instead of 7 before I can install a simspack or those new free things in the Store. And my insects are gone. Go on, go send your sim to find butterflies or ground crawling bugs. Mine disappeared completely. I contacted EA and at first they told me it was the fault of Windows 7. Now I got a message saying it's a "known issue" with the patch that they are looking into. The same response they gave me when my launcher stopped working and it took them over a month to attempt to release a fix for that. All I wanted was an aquarium. :(

I've patched my game and I've installed HELS. Before patching and installing, I removed all Mods and CC and DCCache and Saves and WorldCaches. So basically I had a completely bare game (patched up to current + World Adventures).

All went well. I played for about 3 hours last night starting a new Sunset Valley, created a new Sim, built an extensive house and played for about 3 Sim days. Today, I figured I'd try putting everything back. From my experience, the only Mod that appears to work is that same old No Intro on MTS. AM and Twallan's Mods don't work (the game will begin to load but never progress, even after leaving it to load all day while I ran errands) and yes, I know AM will be updated when Pes is good and ready, but I had that one already in there with the rest so, yeah. I've tried adding empty Mods folders to base game folders and World Adventures folders with the actual Mods folder in the new HELS install, moving DCCache back to its original home, copying DCCache in both its original home AND Mods folder, and I cannot get completely into the game. After removing all Mods and keeping CC, I can load and choose a family, but as soon as the progress bar completely fills and should open the family lot, my game crashes. No message. No prompts.

I have read some people here got things working with CC/Mods after patching. What were your steps?

Hi. I have Windows 7, 64 bit laptop, with WA, and awesomemod, and lots of cool cc, updated to 2.4 with EA and now can't create a sim and  it seems like some of my saves are gone. Takes absolutely forever to load what I have. Should I start all over, and not get any of EA's patches, or what? My game too takes AN EON to do anything! Please, some advice? Thank you. Cuz so far, I have been very impressed with this sight, everything I have downloaded has worked properly, and if I could just get the game to run good, I would be a very happy camper thanks to you, you guys helped me get my sims looking real. Thank you!

cherylflamm, I have read quite a few posts that state whenever you are installing a patch, your best bet is to backup and remove anything of importance: Mods folder, Save games and the like.  At this point, no one knows if a patch will fugg something up or change the way the game deals with certain files.  Some may say they know a patch "WILL" cause those problems.  LOL

Try moving your mods to a safe directory to see if they are breaking the way the game plays.  If your game plays fine or better without the mods, it probably means EA changed something and now the Mod maker has to compensate for the changes in order for it to run properly.

Thanks to this board, I now have a habit of testing the game bare, or at least with minimal mods, after a patch or EP installs.

Oh Chilltown NJ, I really flubbered up, it was because I had automatic updates checked on my download manager, I believe, and I guess, I just let it happen. Well, now I gotta fix it. Do I reinstall from the beginning, and should I completely avoid EA, or is there away I can update to 2.3 only? Thanks for any and all help! And yes, I will read up, once again, on how to remove that stuff(Mods folder, Saved games) beforehand if I do decide to do the udate thing again. thanks chilltownnj

Post by: ChilltownNJ on 2010 February 04, 05:53:54
I'm no expert but I will help you as best as I can.  I could be wrong but I think each update fixes specific issues, meaning you have to update in succession.  I don't think a recent patch will install without the prior patch.  To reinstall or not to reinstall, that is the question, best answered by your skills and time.  If you want to just get back to playing the game as it was prior to the update, then back up your savegames and mods and then reinstall.  Patch up to 1.8.25.003002 or the WA equivalent.  Test the game out a bit first and then put back the mods and savegames, making sure to also put back the framework for the mods.  This will save you some time and possibly prevent a headache or two.  Your problem could simply be the new update choked on a mod or two, but, weeding out which mod it was is the problem.  I have no clue what mods you use and if you use a ton, it would make troubleshooting much harder.  I believe Awesome mod has an update for the new patch, just to rule that out as the possible culprit try it out and see if things clear up, b4 you attempt other things.  That's if you use Awesome mod of course.

I believe so long as you disable autoupdate you won't be forced to update.  But you may eventually have to update to install the latest Ep's, Stuff and possibly Store downloads.

I'm at a loss at what to do. Call me anal, but I've always updated to the latest patch. I've deleted all my caches, moved my Mods folder, DCCache folder, and saved games to another location. Hell, I even removed my .dll file. Even before I did any of those, I ran MTS' Sims3 Dashboard to clear anything that might conflict. I try patching, and it fails due to "Invalid File Found." Never had it happen to me before, launcher's always been pretty good at updating patches and it's working with a bare game. It's probably right in my face, but T-bag me anyway.

Whenever I ran into the "Invalid File Found" issue, it was always because I forgot to replace the hacked ts3 or Ep .exe with the original one.
Another issue I had with patching was I tried to use the wrong region patch on my install but I can't remember exactly the error I had received.  The region patch I had used was for 001 when the region of the game that I was using was 002.

Make sure the executable has been patched to the latest patch. I realised that I had used a crack (because AwesomeMod's no-CD didn't seem to work back when I did this) that was patched up to 2.3, but the original executable that I had restored was not. Hence "Invalid File Found".

Bah, neither patch will work.
I've tried removing and replacing all the usual suspect files with no joy.
The failed update moves too fast - I can't see which file is the culprit, I even tried recording this bit with fraps, but it won't record anything unless an application is running.
How else can I find which one is the problem file?

I don't even know if thats supposed to be in there, but it stops the update whether its in or not.

Enabled Comodo Firewall.
EADM (5.0.0.255) connects to the Internet after allowing it in Comodo Firewall.
Launcher Runs perfectly after allowing it in Comodo Firewall.
So if I exit from Comodo Firewall (IE the firewall is off) EADM and the launcher can't access the Internet, yet if I run/enable the firewall, they can (after I approve them/create rules in Comodo).
It doesn't make sense?!?!.
A last quick question, should I/is there any point in updating to EADM 5.1.0.4

Is Comodo Firewall that causes your EADM to not connect to Internet? I used Kaspersky and my EADM can connect to the internet again after patching

Here's a new one, at least in my experience -- I started a new game after the patch, and couldn't find anything different until I sent my Sim to China.  All bookcases on all lots in China are completely empty -- the "Read" interaction is grayed out.  Back in his house, or in the library at home, my Sim has all the books he could want.

I immediately suspected tight pants, and the only mod that I thought might have something to do with it is Anach's "make-all-buyable (including books)."  But that doesn't make sense as Anach's stuff has always worked flawlessly before, and besides this is not a core mod by my memory.  In any case, I removed that mod and the bookcases in China were still empty.

I haven't sent my Sim to Egypt or France yet, as I prefer to get him through China and up to visa level 3 as soon as possible.

*suddenly has a flash of possible insight*

I wonder whether the culprit is the free bookcase that came out with WA?  It would follow the common EA pattern in which objects long since in existence suddenly break with a new EP, or even a patch.  Think in terms of the mini-fridges ever since AL in TS2, all the complaints about broken pianos, etc.  And just when I was going to download the other free stuff I'd heard about, it being, you know, free.

I will test this out tomorrow as it is getting much too late here.

Seriously? Unless the mod has been cleared for 1.9/2.4, it doesn't matter how well it worked before, it can bork your game. I would suspect the mod before an EAxis bookcase.

Anach's mods are cleared for 1.9/2.4 now -- but I did neglect to mention that little tidbit.  My mistake.

Haven't had a chance to see what happens if I delete the free bookcase, though I'll admit (now at a more decent hour of the day) my theory of last night does sound a bit hard to believe.  I'll post back if I find out anything.  I figure it must be tight pants, since I never saw this before the patch, but no one else has reported it either.

Do your sims have any uncommon or rare seeds in their inventory? This has also been linked to strange behaviour.

(rewriting and shortening post)

No, although that certainly is interesting.  But through a bunch of tests, I think I've determined the culprit.  It seems a mod that was installed when I first loaded China, but is now uninstalled, broke China permanently.  I think it was the mod from MTS2 that added a Put All Books Away interaction to any bookcase, which instantly moved all books from the active Sim's inventory to that bookcase.  Why that mod broke China, and not the main neighborhood, I cannot say.  But with that mod removed, fresh instances of both China and Egypt loaded fine.

Anyway, problem solved, so it seems.  (Not really, since the bookcases in China will be broken as long as this hood lasts -- but it's not a big deal as I don't remember using bookcases in vacation hoods.)

And my insects are gone. Go on, go send your sim to find butterflies or ground crawling bugs. Mine disappeared completely. I contacted EA and at first they told me it was the fault of Windows 7. Now I got a message saying it's a "known issue" with the patch that they are looking into.

Thanks for this.    I have the same issue and am running on Vista so it can not be a Windows 7 issue.   At least I know it's their fault, not CC.  In fact the ONLY file I have in my Mods folder is betterenergygainnofreepretties.package.

In fact... I just went to look for my Mods folder and it and the resource.cfg file are in the Electronic Arts Folder, not TheSims3,TheSims3WorldAdventure or TheSims3HighEndLoftStuff folders.    And the mod still works.   Don't know if .package objects will work from there as I no longer use them, but that mod does.

You need to delete your scripts.cache

Has anyone else had trouble with build mode with this latest patch?  If I go to a lot with a swimming pool on it and try to rebuild or add on to it, the game completely shuts down. I use vista.

I don't think that's unique to this patch, it happens normally with older bugged lots.
