Title: Can I install WA into the Sims 3 directory?
Post by: Zamboni on 2009 November 26, 03:35:24
Or should I install it to a separate directory? The old exe seems to point to the new one anyway. Can I just install the expansion into the same directory and overwrite the old sims 3 files?

Short answer: no.
Long answer: noooooooooooooooooooooo.

Do not install WA in the original Sims 3 directory. You will probably break your install if you do that. There is a reason it defaults to a different directory.

It does work, and well. I installed mine in its own sub directory. In my case the tree looks like this:

D:\Games\Sims 3\WA

YMMV

Why would you want to?

EA already has enough issues getting things to work as it is ^_~ No need to further confuse the game.

He is talking about installing it in the same directory, not a sub directory.

Same rule as Sims 1 & Sims 2 then...

I did install the game into a sub folder called "EP01" just in case.

The red flag in your first post was "overwrite." If you put the expansion in Sims 3/EP01, then you won't overwrite anything and probably won't have any problems.

I did that for all the TS1 packs, the TS2 packs and TS3, installing them into a subdirectory of the main, so if it's good enough for me, it's good enough for you.

I thought that Sims 1 automatically installed into the main sims 1 category, they didn't sperate it...
