Title: Don't kill me for being off topic... x.x;
Post by: bloodstainedkisses on 2005 November 25, 04:16:29
Advice seriously needed! Okay, I was playing The Sims 2, and all of a sudden... my PC crashes on me, giving me this 'Windows has detected an error' on a blue screen. So... I rebooted, and everything was fine.

Ack! I'm so computer illiterate... what do I need to do to fix it? I'm running a virus scan as we speak, then going to do Adaware stuff, and then Defrag... I hope a format isn't necessary. x.x;

Advice?

I don't know, but it's discussed here (http://www.moreawesomethanyou.com/smf/index.php?topic=1503.0), so you can maybe find out some answers?

I used to get that on my previous computer....someone told me it was caused by spyware on your system...who knows it could have been BS. So I ran spybot each time it happened and it seemed to fix the problem temporarily.

What you're doing can't hurt in any case....a healthy computer is a happy computer!

I'd sooner tear my hair out strand by strand, then go without The Sims 2. -Tear-

I knew I needed an upgrade! >>

an update may not be necessary...  (says she madly saving for a new processor!) but regular computer maintenace is never a bad thing!

especially when playing sims 2 a lot - defragging often is pretty much a must...  I aim to do mine once a week, and it does run a bit faster afterwards...  I've got a friend who defrags every day if she's played sims 2

I may do a scan disk (was recommended to me)... only thing is, I don't know how. -Headdesk-

But, no viruses were found, in the scan, so YAY to that! And no more Blue Screen of Death, either! Running an adware scan, now.

easy...

go into my computer, right click on the hard drive and select properties...  choose the tools tab, and there you find scan disk..

or, at least you do on win 98, I don't suppose it would be much different on XP, but if there were errors that scan disk needs to fix, defrag won't run

don't forget, it's a good idea to shut down background tasks to run scan disk and defrag...  and if it's been a while since you defragged, I would suggest leaving it running and go to bed - it can take hours!

Mine took an hour and a half, the last time I ran it... oo;

But yes, I'm talking to people on messengers, so, I'll probably run it when in bed. <3
