Title: 1.4 patch is now out
Post by: aeris_knight on 2009 August 07, 02:30:04
For those of you who don't know it's out, the simguru bg fixed it for the launcher. It's pretty much a patch for the patch.  At first it wasn't up but now the update should pop up on the launcher.  I'm guessing the latest of AW is not compatible with the new patch?

Title: Re: 1.4 patch is now out
Post by: alyria on 2009 August 07, 02:38:46
It's compatible.  I haven't seen any new bugs, just the same ones from 1.3.  Don't think it made enough changes to the game to break mods.

...

Anyway, important business: No script changes this patch. No update required.

Is it even necessary to download the patch then?

Oh ok thanks,  just wanted to make sure.  Necessary or not I would download it anyway, because I would eventually get sick of the "new update" popup showing up everytime I open the launcher.

3 Patches for one edition of a game? I can't remember, is this a new record for them? I seem to only recall 2 patches maximum per expansion pack.

You open the Launcher? Why?

Meh, the store crap.

I know there's some back end ways you can avoid it using the JFade tool or some such to extract them to package, but it's too many hoops for me to jump through.

And actually, I will confess though I don't at all care for the launcher itself, I prefer the way it installs custom content because they are clearly noted as such and I can view and delete them in the CAS or buy/build mode.

The Delphy method of installing custom content frequently leaves me going. Wait, did that come with that game or did I download that somewhere? :P

That's because there are degrees of broken and Sims 3 was pretty freakin broken when it released. Plus this last patch was just a patch to fix the patch.

Quetzilla, they were talking about Sims 3, not Sims 2.

As for Sims 2 being broken out of the box, yes it was.  For example: I had a family/family couple both with the 10 kids LTW.  After baby number 9 they were unable to try anymore, as they kept jumping out of woohoo interactions.  The process of woohooing, birthing & raising the 9 they had already (i.e. normal game play)  had given them too many memories to be able to woohoo for the last one.  Tracking down the solution led me to Pescado, who made the fix for that particular bug before EAxis were willing to admit the bug existed.

Ah yes, the infamous jump bug. Wasn't that ultimately tied to the memories and once your sims started accumulating too many it ended up in a BFBVFS?

No wonder they ditched the memories feature.

To start it without the launcher just use the Game .exe out of the folder instead of the launcher's .exe

And yeah, As far as I can tell. Everything seems to work still.

Minor typo, i meant sims 3 as well.

Even so, your example hardly qualifies as broken.  LTW's were only a miniscule portion of the gameplay in sims 2 and you could play the majority of the game without your example bug stopping your game cold.  An example of a game *actually* being broken would be Vampire the Masquerade: Bloodlines, which had a CTD for the majority of players preventing them from getting past the first half of the game.  That is broken.  Your LTW thing is a bug.

I agree with the idea that TS3 was broken upon release. I can't compare to TS2 as I never played that one.

First problem -  I was at Best Buy getting some cables or something and they had it at the register. I failed my saving throw and bought it. The DVD would not read in my computer. Went online and found a bunch of the same complaints. I returned the disk and bought the digital download version. This was a major complaint for the release.

Second problem - Story mode as written didn't work and EAxis admitted it. Once it was on it was always on with no way to turn it off. I lost several friends to move out. I found out about MATY from the BBS, downloaded AwesomeMod, and have never looked back. Without AM I would have stopped playing the game within about a week or so.

Third problem - (alright, not a release issue, just an EAxis one) - I could not update to 1.3 due to the Mac digital download not being available. So, I'm running 1.2 and old AM. When I get home I'll get to see if I can update to 1.4.

Er, are you stupid or something? It had nothing to do with the LTW. It was because playing the game would eventually make it unplayable due to a an error in the code. Sims would jump out of interactions that produced memories, IIRC, which is almost everything of importance.

Title: Re: 1.4 patch is now out
Post by: J. M. Pescado on 2009 August 07, 14:38:25
LTWs didn't even exist at the time of the jump bug, LTWs were a concept introduced in Uni.

I'm still getting a crash at the neighborhood screen.  ::) No cc, no mods, no anything but pure base game. Nice.

EDIT: My bad, reboot fixed that. But I am still getting the stupid jump bug where sims won't do anything. Patch didn't fix shit. Game's unplayable.

More unneeded info on sims2 memory 'bug' (Oddly one of the things that made run across JMP as well, much to my advantage.)

There were so many 'ghost' memories that got passed off just saying hi to someone that it not only affected just one family, it affected every family in the game.   My solution to this was everyone my Sim meet he killed, it worked out well.  He was vampire once nightlife came out, and just bite them lock them out in the day light and poof no more sim.  It was the good ol' days.  Sadly this only worked somewhat, cause while now my sim was about the only sim with memories, he had far to many death memories which was apparently buggier memory then any other. Then JMP said he has a solution to the problem (EAxis, was still saying did not exsist) and it worked, and the Sims Townies got to live again.  Not sure that was entirely a good thing.

Should we take a poll to find out how many of us are here because the Sims2 jump bug led us to Pescado?

On topic, if we don't use the launcher, is there any reason to bother with this patch?

Possibly not. Essentially (as far as I can tell) it was simply a patch that pacths the patch that was supposed to have fixed a hundred things that are still not fixed but EAxis say are. (If that makes any sense - probably as much as EAxis, so all good.  :P )

I wasn't one of the people for whom the patch had to be made, but now all of my 1.3 savegames make 1.4 crash, so as per usual, what's a new-and-improved bug-fix for some is a new-and-improved bug-fest for others. Highly annoying to have to restart my legacy game because EAxis rotated theirs the wrong way again. ::)

If you think Sims 3 was 'freakin broken' when it was released you have no idea what you're talking about.

Clearly we have different definitions of broken.  See my definition of broken is when they add a story mode toggle that doesn't even work, toddlers morph into mutants when trying to do an animation they don't have, pregnant men walking around bodyless, places of work can't be entered when certain opportunities are preformed, the ability to plant things you learned from opportunities lost if you move, and on and on and on....

I guess your definition of broken is you stick in the disk and your comp explodes.

Title: Re: 1.4 patch is now out
Post by: Motoki on 2009 August 07, 17:02:23
Uh, men don't get pregnant in the base game. Also toddlers and children, in theory, should not be doing things they don't have animations for in the base unmodded game.

I will happily blame EA for many things, but having things not work right when people mod the game to do things it was never supposed to do in the first place is not one of them.

Title: Re: 1.4 patch is now out
Post by: alyria on 2009 August 07, 17:24:21
Men do get pregnant in the base game.  EA storymode rolls a random baby in a random house and if there is no woman in the house the guy carries the baby.  Since they didn't make a mesh for it, the guy would just be a bobbing head.  I had bodyless men before I had ANY mods.  I didn't realize the reason WHY they didn't have a body, I just thought it was a graphics bug. Then I later found it it was because EA storymode randomly impregnates people, but doesn't discriminate by gender.

The toddler bug is from when you teach a toddler to talk and then let them watch tv.  There is no "talking while watching tv" animation for toddlers, but they try to do it anyway and their body morphs into some freakish mutant thing.  The most recent patch stops that.  Why would EA make a patch to fix something third party mods cause? Hmmm...

I don't just pull stuff out my butt, I actually play the game, and read multiple sites to find out if what's going on in my game is going on in other people's game and why.

Easy answer: every one of us. And we stay because it takes a Pescado to fix the many many bugs and to make the game any good. Always has, always will- evidently.

Just patched via the launcher with no problems. I didn't remove my mods folder, framework, or CC. Haven't fired up the game yet, so not sure how it runs, but patch ran smoothly.

Patched the game (Mac) just because the 1.3 patch made the game unplayable in Mac OS, and I can only hope that something, sometimes, even by accident, can fix things a bit.
No differences, though.

I never had the jump bug, to my recollection. Course, I rarely played, usually made a new house and toyed with it for a bit before quitting. Pescado's mods made the game fun enough to play, for me.

'Twas the phone-hack that led me here.

1.4 patch installed fine for me, even though I'd removed and backed up the EA families and lot library. For 1.3, I had put them back in to be on the safe side.

I followed Pescado fron Rentech, too.  My first hack was the fix for the UNI final exams (had a sim sent home at the end of his freshman year), then I got JM's piano fixer.  Couldn't play TS2 OR TS3 without my MATY patches!

Far as I remember, The only trouble I had with Sims 2 at release was the batch of it at one wal-mart was corrupted randomly on files.
Far as I remember, there were no bugs that I encountered.

Many of the base-game bugs were silent killers that, after playing for a long time, would make your neighbourhood begin to glitch. I think they might have actually done some token playtesting of the base game. Just, as time went on, they playtested less and less and so more obvious bugs got through.

Title: Re: 1.4 patch is now out
Post by: Regina on 2009 August 09, 17:01:52
Speaking of TS2 bugs, does anyone besides me remember the "lot slow-down bug"?  This usually happened during or after the base game had decided to randomly spawn anywhere from 60 to 100 gardeners in a neighborhood. Time became so unbearably slow in the household you were trying to play that it was impossible to play them. The only solution was to move them out, at which point you lost all of their career and aspiration rewards because Sims had no inventory.

I started picking up Pescado's mods before even Rentech's site, when they were uploaded to MTS.

The patches that were released never fixed all of the bugs and often times the second patch broke fixes in the first patch so a third patch had to be released.  I remember one particular bug (don't remember which it was right now, but it was one I had a mod to fix all that time) that was in the base game being fixed in a patch for a much later expansion pack.  EA's track record for creating problem-free programming is lousy, but at least they're consistent. :D

Erm, quick question - Pescado mentioned in an update something about the last patch being integrated into AwesomeMod, but also included a link (now broken) to the patch. So, do we need to patch our games if we're using AwesomeMod or not?

Yes you still have to patch. Awesomemod requires the 1.3 patch at this time.

Err, you people that are uninstalling and reinstalling to patch are reinstalling the framework too, correct?

Do you have:

d3dx9_31.dll in this directory C:\Program Files\Electronic Arts\The Sims 3\Game\Bin

resource.cfg in this directory C:\Program Files\Electronic Arts\The Sims 3

A mods\packages\hacks bla bla folder also in this directoryC:\Program Files\Electronic Arts\The Sims 3

The latest version of awesome mod (awesome.package) in either C:\Program Files\Electronic Arts\The Sims 3\mods\packages or C:\Program Files\Electronic Arts\The Sims 3\mods\packages\hacks

The (optional) awesome mod config (aweconf.package) in either C:\Program Files\Electronic Arts\The Sims 3\mods\packages or C:\Program Files\Electronic Arts\The Sims 3\mods\packages\hacks

The 1.34 or 1.46 patch installed. (Don't assume, check your version see here (http://www.moreawesomethanyou.com/smf/index.php/topic,16229.0.html). You can also check your version in the lower left hand corner of the launcher)

Well the only other thing I can tell you is try taking everything out but those two awesomemod files and see. Take out anything under mods/ and it's subdirectories that isn't awesomemod and I'd also move the whole C:\Documents and Settings\Default User\My Documents\Electronic Arts\The Sims 3 directory out just to test.

I can't imagine it would be a custom content item to cause such a thing but then again in the past I have had some custom content that was made incorrectly do some very weird things and mess with things it wasn't supposed to be messing with so you never know.

Beyond that, I don't really know. It's working for the rest of us. We can't fix something we can't reproduce and I've tried to think of all the possible scenarios I could think of that might cause such a thing, but eh, if you have to get a crack them get a crack. Just keep a copy of your original ts3.exe and tslhost.dll.

delurks with unplayable game in hand...

has anyone experienced any weirdness at all with 1.4 patch?
my game keeps crashing after 3 min or so of play, i removed all my mods and my saved games and started a new game but still it crashes every time.

Has this issue been resolved at some point? Because I'm having it still, big time. Here's a short summary of my odyssey of the last few days (yes, days), if you want. (Saved game can also be had, if wanted.)

After I hadn't played the game since early/mid June, much less updated anything, for R/L reasons (the awesomeness I got back then worked wonderfully, all this time. What's that about it expires?), I came back here days ago (Tuesday?) to find even more awesomeness that - naturally - I wanted to have. Decided to take a risk and replace my working game with whatever EA is serving in their patches and get the latest AM.
- The first attempt to patch fucked up my game: uninstalled it, fresh install without cc, Riverview or anything at all (couldn't be bothered), patch to 1.4
- Installed the awesomeness (Aug 18 version) including frameworks but forgot to delete cache files. Get to neighborhood without problems, can CAS (something my puter does not like to do normally, it makes it touchy), and Edit Town is no problem either. Can do all that for hours (at least that half hour I spent there). Try to actually play: game crashes, badly, after 3 to five minutes, has Windows throwing tantrums and cry for momma. Lately, it even started to run checkdisk every other time.
- Thinking I messed things up by not deleting cache files, I uninstall, CClean, fresh install, patch, see above. Installed awesomeness (as of 20 Aug). Not forgetting cache files this time around.
- Game keeps crashing EVERY single time, ca. 3 to five (real) minutes after I get into play mode. Can put cribs into various houses in Edit town, build, CAS etc. But not play. Playing without Supreme Commander gives me maybe two minutes more. Saving every minute, after every action does not help. 3booting it does not help, framelimiting does not help. Tried it all. Only thing I didn't try is turning off Awesomestory, as this is why I gave up my working setup in the first place. (And the awesome One said he does not want us to work-around, so there.)
- In the end I tried to alleviate the problem today by downgrading to patch 1.3 and getting today's AM version, which - you guessed from this novel, most probably - did not help.

I'd be very grateful if someone could help me and provide insight into what is going on here. I assume I'm being too stupid?

1.3 is 99.9% the same as 1.4. They are virtually identical save for some fix for people who were having issues getting stuck during an attempt at uninstalling and for the Mac digital download people who for some reason could not use 1.3. Other than that it's the same damned thing basically.

Also, once again while deleting the cache files is a good practice just to eliminate things that might be causing issues, it will not solve the world's economic crisis and if you are having serious issues most likely it will not help.

I'm not sure what your problem is, it doesn't seem to be the usual oops I didn't patch or I patched but the patch ended up a borked halfway patched install issues.

Needless to say, make sure you are using the latest version of awesomemod. Since it expires I presume you have to be using at least a fairly recent one.

Also might want to double check and make sure you have the right exe version and that the patch took all the way (see here (http://www.moreawesomethanyou.com/smf/index.php/topic,16229.0.html)) and also run the launcher and look in the lower left to see what game version it says you are running.

If you haven't already, I would also try starting a new neighborhood and testing just to make sure you don't have a borked save.

Likewise if you haven't already, try taking all custom content but awesomemod out.

If you do all this and have the correct game version and still have issues with awesomemod, but the game runs fine when you take awesomemod out and your problems are easily reproducible and you can save just before they happen then I would get your save file to Pescado.

Just reinstalled Windows. Haven't played TS3 in a long time. Installed the update thinking it was 1.3 (didn't bother to read, that's for dummies). So I've got version 1.4.6

Thought alright, I'll give it a shot, came over here, read that it's supposedly compatible, installed framework and awesomemod.

Whenever I try to move in a sim, any sim, or take control of a household, the game just freezes. Animations continue as normal, I can move the mouse about, alt+tab into Windows with no problem, but the game will not budge and has to be forcibly quit. Removing awesomemod fixes the freezes.

i tried playing with an existing household but after i chose one the game didnt load the household and and the camera was stuck in the neighbourhood view.

This is happening to me too. I'm reinstalling to see if that fixes anything.

Same here. And I just reinstalled the game... AND Windows. Removing awesomemod fixes the problem. Definately in need of an update for 1.4+

So did it fix anything? My 1.4.6 still freezes the second I try to move someone in or take control of a household. Have to play without awesomemod :(

After reinstalling Windows did you upgrade the graphic drivers?

Everything is ship shape on my end. Win XP SP3, video, sound, motherboard, directx... other games working normally.

It took 3 times to get it right. First time, my sims kept getting stuck in the mailboxes right when I started a game. Second time, every time I tried to choose a family it would get stuck in the neighborhood view, but the third time every thing worked fine. I have no idea why it would take 3 installs for it to work, and maybe that wasn't it at all that fixed it, but its working now so I'm good.

That sort of seemingly random behavior was a problem in Sims 2 as well. As for what causes it...? *shrug*

1.4.6 actually seems to be doing alright on it's own now. No crashing or weirdness or problems with aging or storymode (off) so far.
