I have tried everything I can think of, and have tried replacing the N001 file with my backup, as well as one I got from a thread here.  I have tried deleting the neighborhood file, in my documents, and even tried deleting the entire Sims2 directory.  Is there another option?

Pleasantview didn't regenerate along with the only Maxis hoods when you deleted your Sims 2 folder?

No, it didn't.  I was surprised, and that's why I'm here. :( 

Does the N001 data appear to be intact in your Program Files?

I had this happen too, and didn't get it back even after re-installing on a new machine. I'd given up looking. Just so it doesn't look like a one-person issue.

How about manually copying it over from your Program Files folder? If that one's still okay, that is?

I'm a bit unclear on what exactly goes wrong, though. It doesn't regenerate in your My Documents folder when you delete the neighbourhood folder/Sims 2 folder, correct? But have you tried simply copying the N001 folder from Program Files to My Documents, load the game and see if it works? That's all the game does too when it regenerates - it just copies the files.

'Cause it could be that it's just whatever function that copies N001 isn't working as it should, and that there's nothing wrong with the neighbourhood itself.

I went to look in the N001 folder, in my documents, and sure enough there was another N001 folder in there rather than the files that were supposed to be there.  I feel very foolish.  Once I fixed it, it's all sorted out.  Thanks for the help.   :-[
