Actually, it had been a quite traumatic evening: at the same time the eldest son Michal transitioned into a teen, the grim reaper showed up to claim both of his grandparents. The combination of the birthday cake, balloons, noisemakers, hula dancers, and throaty growls from grimmy was surrealistic. I will say that the sobs of Samantha (the lobotomy victim) when her granddad packed his bag had ME in tears. Crying children always make me sad. Unless they are throwing temper tantrums.
