Title: neighborhood no longer recognized
Post by: daephene on 2005 November 20, 04:42:47
Earlier today I played nightlife for the first time.  I had uninstalled the sims2 and uni from my main hard drive, along with all custom content, and installed the three programs (Sims2, Uni and NL) and the NL patch onto my secondary hard drive.  I played earlier today with two lots and saved.  Tonight when I try to go back into the game, the neighborhood I was playing in (strangetown) no longer appears on the neighborhood chooser.  I looked in simPE, and under the Strangetown picture when you choose a neighborhood for the neighborhood browser, it has the directory name (C:...N002/N002_neighborhood.package) where it should say Strangetown.  Any ideas how I can get it back to playable?

I sent you a saved copy of Neighbourhood 2 (NL). Hope it will work.

Another way is, to re-install NL only (uninstall/install).

Thank you for your help.  I don't suppose there's any possible way to salvage anything I've done in the game for the past year? I can get Strangetown back, but my characters are lost, and my lots.

Is there a .bak file you can switch to a package file? I've had this problem soooooo many times.

I've had this problem several times, too.  It's either caused by re-installing a back-up, in which case it's easily remedied, or it's caused by a corrupt neighbourhood package, in which case it isn't.  The first time it happened to me I lost a month's worth of play and that was more than enough.  I back-up regularly now.

There's been a fair few of these problems with disappearing neighborhoods.
Bissela linked this Tutorial to help someone:

I'm pretty sure the neighborhood package was corrupted.  I had some keyboard problems the last time I played and may have accidentally somehow done something.  I was on a lot of pain meds yesterday, who knows.  And when I reinstalled, I moved all my backed up files into the new EA games folder instead of copying them there, so I have no backups.  Anyway, I just decided to embrace Veronaville.  Some days I was getting tired of the same old families anyway.  Thanks for y'all's help though.
