Edge smoothing has been a near-useless performance sink since TS2, and the power saved is better spent on thinks like increasing texture resolution, for upscaling is using too many filters causing textures to get blurry instead of jaggy when set to LQ.

TashaFaun, I like the way you laid out your photos in quads, really nice shots too. Made me one step closer to starting the game up again.

Larva babies are larval. Hate. I don't like kids but but they eventually won me over in TS2, particularly once I stopped decorating and realized how cool the genetics were. Now I have crap genetics and larval babies, and toddlers went solidly back into the realm of non-cute for me. Bitch, moan, etc.

Absent-minded-face! It also shows the MAJOR pixelation going on in my game, the shadows look really blocky... I have a ATI Radeon X800 XT, and I think this card is really old and crappy. It keeps on overheating and restarting my PC, which sucks donkey balls.

I seriously envy your graphics card. :( My game slows to a crawl if I set Draw Distance and Tree Textures to anything other than the lowest setting, so when I pan over the town, all I see is faded buildings. Oh well; at least it makes for realistic 'foggy' weather.

My One Family^tm is living there right now, and I'm rehabbing it. I've just been cutting the inside, though, and retexturing for favorite colors. Sealed off the dining area after moving a wall to make the kitchen bigger so that future spawn can use the former dining room as a bedroom. Then made an entry into the kitchen from the hall, which required some tweaking with the master bedroom entrance. It needs a little game shed in the back yard, but for what? All we really have are the foosball and chess tables.

That's why I make basements on foundation homes. Put whatever extras down there. I like the idea of a fun shed. Hmm...

My Agnes hasn't given birth to her baby with Erik the Ghost Dad yet, but yes, I believe so.  Once your ghost is controllable, he works just like a living sim, so I would assume the babies you have will work the same as regular ones too. 

One unique thing about the ghosts:  Instead of hearing sim-like talk coming from them, they always have a ghostly-aura sound - sort of musical ghostly sound - coming from them instead of voices.  I think this is kinda neat, but I suppose might get boring after a while.  Hasn't bored me yet though!

Can anyone post a picture if they have dug out a basement? I haven't seen much featured on basements, so I am a tad curious. I like that park, Jorganza. I am really relieved to know we can at least tinker with the lots since we can't make our own neighborhood.

Are you using the in-game picture taker or something like Gadwin? Because it darkens them a lot if you use Gadwin for some reason.

Tizerist, if you try to print screen the shot, it will also darken the picture. I can't think for the life of me why, but it does.
Also, do you have any lights? It looks like you don't have any (or none of them are on). Lights will help brighten up the place.

Edit to Zazazu: I just did some testing around. Apparently, if you have the game in windowed mode, the problem goes away,
and the darkening only occurs if you have it on full screen. However, I'm not getting the same problem as you have, both in windowed mode and full screen mode.

Darkness fixed. Pic in post 40 updated.

Before I was hitting PrintScreen, then opening MSPaint and saving it.

But I then went and checked my fraps folder ('cause I use PrintScreen for fraps shots too) and the image had also saved there too, this time with a bit more colour-o-vision.

I think the coloured thing by the shark is a fish jumping out of water. By the looks of it could be a clownfish. In the far background it is a buoy indeed.

They did improve the AI, Sims are now intelligent enough to install Winboard! I'd have imagined them going to places like Yahoo Cheats Chess or Pogo to play.

I just had two gorgeous sims that were actually the 3rd generation. I just wanted to share for those of you who are absolutely terrified of how genetics work in TS3 (as I am). The family tree was that the paternal side is completely CAST but the maternal side is completely EAxis. Their maternal grandparents were townies who spawned a girl that became a maid. This maid married my second gen CAST sim. The second gen CAST sim and maid had twins. This is the GORGEOUS result. I was just so impressed. They are not identical, they have different hair color, and the black-haired sim has different cheekbones than the red-brown haired sim. But they are pretty similar.

I was never in the habit of taking screenshots for the other Sims games (because the screenshots generally sucked, and I was too damn lazy to alt+printscreen everything or get a program), but I'm going to try it with Sims 3.  I also hardly ever use Photobucket (having spent a while trying to shove all of my Sims-related pictures into one neat folder to post here, I gave up because Photobucket clearly couldn't be arsed to do what I wanted), so please let me know if this shit is too big.

This is the family I'm currently playing.  This sim was made by me in CAS.  She's insane and neurotic, so she talks to herself a lot and has a hissy over every little thing that happens to her.  I named her Eleanor Rigby, and you can be certain that she'll be buried alone with as batshit crazy as she is.  She's a computer whiz and a genius who rolled the want for the forensic science career (the top level for the cop, if I remember correctly; I never play the cop career).  Half of the damn time, she goes to work in her underwear, and when fat ass works out, she wears formal wear.

Prudence is Eleanor's daughter via sperm donor (a.k.a. CAS), and she's a bit camera shy here, but she's not as nutty as her mother.  In fact, she makes all sorts of friends easily because she's a sex freak charismatic.  She's a handy little shit, always fixing and upgrading stuff.  Also, I love that when sims "upgrade" or "fix" objects, they stick the screwdriver almost all of the way through whatever they're working on.  Sure, they'll fix the computer -- by buying another one to replace their fuck-up.

This is an adopted pudding face named Stacey.  She doesn't look terrible for adopted spawn, but still, pudding face.  She's a daredevil sim just like Prudence, and the only thing I've seen it do is a desire to do everything "extreme" and show off to other sims by eating nasty shit from the ground.  She's also lucky, which I've never seen before.  Apparently, when it's their lucky day, there's all sorts of crap for them to collect.

And this is the lovely home.  Oddly, I'm an artist, but I can't be bothered to design nice looking properties.  I'd rather someone else do it, so I can spend more time decorating the interior.

The only case of Invisisims I've noticed so far- probably. The game didn't act like there was anything in the chair when I tried clicking on it. Note, also, the bookcase clipping through the wall.

So the ghost child color is directly linked to the color of the ghost parent? Some of the faces sims pull make me giggle. That cross-eyed sim guy is hilarious.

They also carry the same tombstone as their ghost parent, which I find is weird, because you can insta-kill ghost people by "return to the netherworld" or something like that.

My modest remodel of the cabin home. I didn't change the footprint of the house. Changed some of the siding and rooflines, plus surrounded the chimney (you can delete those in pieces, which is nice). Added a play house of sorts in the back yard for the kids done in their colors after an opportunity netted over $50k. $20k was spent on that. The bottom left is an internal of the play house. The standard Sim aliens abducting Sims via tractorbeam to buttprobe them, is my guess. They had to put the aliens in the game somehow.

That's the shtick of the Handy (?) trait, I think. I gave it to my self sim, and she always plays with a wrench, when idle. It's quite realistic.

Heck! Everytime I turn around, my ghost dad is scaring the poop out of people!  Yes, he is playable, but I never have told him to scare anyone, he just seems to get a big kick out of it!
He wanted to be a police officer and so I made that wish come true, and what does he do to thank me?  He scares people he's supposed to be getting to know (to help his job along) and makes people po'd at him!

This opinion is kinda late, but whatever... I think the rock drawings are a story, but it just doesn't click with most of us because we're so left-to-right oriented. I think it depicts the sims starting out as monkeys, as seen on the right, then the aliens zapping them into sims. Anyway, the monkeys are facing left, then the sims are running left, which is why I think the 'story' runs from right-to-left. Some of the alien conspiracy theorists think that our evolution was influenced by aliens, so I think that's what this is making fun of.

Here's some shots of my mansion i made.  I had this back in Sims 2 and loved it so much i just had to recreate it.  I've since modified the design mostly since there's no gym room worth of equipment, no sauna, no hot tub ect.  To be honest it looked ALOT better in Sims 2 but then i had custom content for all the rooms.  It's incredibly hard to clutter a mansion with more or less no clutter.  I'm still trying to find things to add.  Haven't worked out a good way to make the garden on the balcony over the garage yet.

I designed the house for maximum efficiency.  Sims come downstairs after sleeping make their way into the kitchen, over to the bathroom then to the living room.

I have no idea - these are all just printscreens.  I think some of them were probably at night, but the picture of the rock drawings definitely wasn't - I took the first one at night and it was so dark I had to refocus my eyes to even make out the drawings.  It doesn't look that dark in-game, honest.

My print-screens of the game are quite dark as well.  I have to go in with a photo editor and lighten them to achieve how they looked in-game.

I like that you can take away sections of the chimney so it doesn't stick out from the top of the wall surround.

Yes! That's made me really happy. I love the faux egress windows you've done on that lot. Needs more chicken wire so that baby bunnies, chipmunks, and toads don't get stuck down there (when I lived with my parents, I spent two nights a week getting all the animals out of their egress window until they finally put down chicken wire). I'll post some photos of my remodel of that trashy grey lot as soon as I get done with the interior.

@ Zazazu, I have been looking at that grey lot, trying to figure out what to do with it. Being a city girl, not much coming to mind making it look like a poor  farm lot, but maybe inner city rough. Hmm...

I can't wait to see what you did with the lot. I had to laugh when I didn't understand about the 'faux egress windows', but you are right, would need to have some wire fencing or something for protection. I was trying to keep the cost down, so I didn't do much for the outside.

BTW, love the family photos. I have been following your pics, I wish I had the patience to make such photos. Ha, my families are dead tired by the time I get them all home.

Same thought here about the in-game camera. That's what I used on the pictures above ^^ and even though I didn't turn the graphics all the way up, they look better than my print screens.

The pic with the invisible male sim (he was just a head and feet) was of a pregnant male sim, right?

So same sex pairings can breed (without player consent) just as freely as m/f pairings?

I think the bug is only related to males (that can impregnate everything) so lesbians can't impregnate other women (it hasn't been reported yet.)

Original lot next to new lot. I kept the footprint the same, but filled in the foundation gaps. The fenced in portion was expanded a bit to accomodate a pool and gardening space. One sim is athletic and loves the outdoors, so outdoor work-out space was a must. The other has a green thumb.

Adorable!  I (dagnabit) have to attend a graduation tomorrow and have to leave tonight, so no more gameplay for me til Saturday. While on the road to Indiana, I will be checking out the country areas for ideas. I like the color co-ordination very much, even the spiceberry and grey.  ;D

I am never organized enough to choose a couple's colours.  Now that sims HAVE favourite colours, I may start paying attention (or torture them by putting a sim with a love of blue into a yellow house).

Also, while your houses look great as always, I hate the couches (neither here nor there really, just sayin').

That lot looks great!  It's good to see that the CAST system can actually be used to pull off some really nice color coordination.  On the off-chance you ever decide to upload it somewhere, I'd love to have a link  :)

Yeah most of these look pretty good, but is it just my graphics card or is there a kind of flat Emulsion look about everything, especially on the sims?

It's like smustling, when sims would just break into dance wherever they happened to be standing when the thought entered their head.  My gen 1 spouse from the leaked version used to start reading outside the criminal headquarters all the time.  It's 3am: GO HOME!

 :D Those glitches are funny, especially the treadmill one. The maid is worthless if someone's on the lot when they come. The babysitter always corner the one in my game, then that half-ass cleaning dude leaves with half the work done. 125 simoleons, for what?!

Well, working out does work to change body shape, though I didn't notice any changes until she was at level 7 athletic skill. Somehow, both Hunter and his daughter Charlene were pudgy even though everyone else in the gene pool was thin and muscular. Charlene is going after top Athletics, and has the athletic trait, so she will actually get up in the morning and work out on her own if left to her own devices.

I have just spent an hour frustrated, trying to emulate your basement set-up.

HOW did you do this? I am stumped. Closest I got was following this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T6oaIDSyn08

But the game yells when I try to put anything IN the basement, as it is "inside the foundation."  Also, foundation does not snap to ground level join between basement and ground floor; it leaves a trench between.

Please give a tutorial! :D

I tried it with foundation first, then hole in the ground first, and I can't get the basement walls and foundation to line up properly.

I am not at home with my computer, but will give you the basics.

The foundation, once you have built your foundation and figured where the stairs leading to the basement will be placed, then hold down ctrl and drag with the foundation tool to cut away the area of the basement. Always leave one tile away from the edge of the foundation on all sides.  After that, I use the stairs to get the height, going down 3 levels. Delete the stairs and use the level tool from that last step on the 3rd level. That will be your basement hole. Hope that helps, in the meantime I will look up basement tutes to help with visuals. :)

EDIT:
This tutorial is by one of the best Sims 2 builders, Nengi65. This site requires registration to see it @ SimsCrossing (http://simscrossing.net/index.php?topic=613.0).  Same techniques apply to Sims 3. Only thing it is using regular walls, which may be better for Sims 3, cause they do cut away. I like foundation walls cause they do not cut away and I don't have to see the ground surrounding the walls.

Jonesi made one @ BlackPearlSims (http://www.blackpearlsims.com/showthread.php?t=959), but instead of digging down, I use the stair method from Nengi's tute.  Registration required here too.

Everything can go in the basement. You must start with a full foundation and cut away the area you want to be the living area. Refer to Jonesi's tutorial, the first image is the way it should start out and next is the cutaway (holding down ctrl and dragging what you want deleted) with the one tile left all around the foundation.  Use the stair method, 3 levels down (be sure to have move objects on) to get the wall height right and level the ground from the last stair level. Then you will  be able to place things cause the wall height is right.

If not right, will not be able to have walls or anything level down there. If you have problems, just PM me. I will try to get a PDF on basements. :)

I haven't tried to make a basement in TS3 yet, but in TS2 what I would do was put wallpaper on  the foundation. Then I'd keep lowering the ground until I saw the bottom of the paper. This is probably still valid.

So far I've noticed it often happens when a sim is watching a skill related television channel (ie. cooking) and then another sim hijacks the tv to play video games. The sim fails to realize that it's no longer watching tv and continues to skill that specific ability forever. Even when the blue bar doesn't show up, that one skill is still increasing when you look in the skill tab.

I got cooking, fishing, and gardening maxed that way  ;)

I roffled over the description of the meteorite "pummelling" the Earth, and yet somehow it does not smash the table (although we know that a small kitteh in TS2 could totally destroy a sofa).

It seems that MOAR FIGHT! is an included part of the game. I only managed to snap the end of it, but while one of my sims was at work, two npc's were attempting to beat the stuffing out of each other.

Please read the FAQ.  I have this niggling sense of foreboding that you are barrelling into MATY and posting without reading threads or using "Search".  This is not the MATY way. 

At MATY assume that when you, as a n00b, ask a question, you will be mercilessly attacked for wasting our time.  This will instil in you a NEED to search for your answer yourself, before posting questions about things that have already been discussed.  The advanced search feature will even let you tailor your search to your particular needs.

They just teleport (without shiny effects) in a new spot and a new pose. It's not that exciting. I did find that if you kick them into a pose and then place them, you can ensure that they stay that way. That's what I did with my house that had five of the buggers.

My current instance, I'm playing Riverview with only seven other families in residence, set as townies and ignored until I absorb them all. Unfortunately, I didn't realize that this meant that my starter sim wouldn't have any marriage prospects. She's a grumpy loner, anyway. So...seduced a ghost. Ew. And, unfortunately, she went and had a ghost baby. The ghost baby, Magnolia, will be going on a quest to become the best gardener possible so that she can grow the life fruit and become a real girl.

At least a couple of my teens had their facial vertices randomly try to escape. It seems the only way to cure them of this ailment is forcing them to age. Changing appearance and resetsim do not work.

I concur on the HP skins too.  I had them but was immediately turned off by what appeared to be a smudge of white paint on some sims' foreheads.  I can only assume that was the "shine".  It's kind of funny how some people apparently think that replacement = better.  Baa.

I really hate the gridlines.

You have to catch 10 of a fish type to stock a pond. You can then stock any pond, but it made the most sense to keep one at home. Deathfish and robotfish were the biggest pains.

We used to have that "boolprop showfloorgrid false" to get rid of the gridlines in build mode.

I have to play more. That's why they want 10 of each kind of fish. I have been using them to fertilize the garden.

Tab use to take care of the gridlines in TS2, this game will not let you tab in buildmode.

If you stock a pond, do the fish reproduce and keep the pond going, or do you then just have a pond with 10 fish?  Would he, in other words, have more than 10 fish to eat, if he stocked the pond with his 10 fish?

If you stock a homebase pond. the pond loses the variety available and become ONLY a spot to fish for the one variety you stocked.

You CAN stock more varieties, and then you'll have the first kind you stocked plus lthose fish in that pond.

Player-made ponds will apparently never feature jumping fish.

It may never feature jumping fish, but you can fish thousands from your own pond, and not just the 10 you stocked it with. Once stocked, it does not run out.

'cos my sim lives on a "highly ponded" lot, and likes to fish.  His ponds are sadly low on edible varieties at present.  This stocking thing sounds like the ticket.  Jumping fish are not particularly necessary.

Jumping fish means catches are faster. Catching fish at home, even from a stocked pond, takes longer than on community lots. However, it's better than having to wait for only two hours a day to catch death fish, and beats running around checking availability.

After sim weeks of testing, I couldn't get them to catch deathfish anywhere except at the graveyard spawner.  Did you do anything special besides just stocking the pond?

For deathfish at the house, I did use bait since the possibility of getting any specific fish is pretty low without bait when every fish is present.

That's why you dig multiple puddles and only stock them with a single specific fish or group of fishes. "Important" fish should not share a puddle with common "trash" fish. Now if only I could put FRIKKEN LAZORS on the heads of those sharks.

Yay, finally got me a stretchy toddler. He was sitting watching telly, then a sim sat on the couch and started playing a video game. I got her to ask someone to join her game. The toddler stayed watching, then, as soon as he started clapping, he deformed. The funny thing was, he went back to normal size again when he started doing normal toddler interactions. He did this about six times in all. I got a few on video but it's over 4.5GB and I don't know how to chop out the bit I want. So I made a gif.  ;D

I decided to follow EAxis' lead and do a sort of prequel to my neighborhood (with the key difference being that my way is actually logical and makes sense) So I started with the grandfather of one of my TS2 sims (Leo Colt) who I named Damian and made Evil/Grouchy/Mean Spirited/Kleptomaniac/Insane. He lives in Riverview, because Sunset Valley is corrupted and unplayable.

ACTUALLY, you can upgrade doors. It's awesome. However, it requires higher level doors -- I upgraded, specifically, the three-square-wide door with square windows in it, one of the bigguns. It gives you different doorbell options, which is quite useful. I couldn't upgrade the basic cheapy 1 tile door, though, at the same handiness skill. I also believe that the upgraded door needs to be set as Front Door, and therefore, there can only be ONE.

I now have an awesome "haunted" evil doorbell. Muahaa.

I wonder if the fences are the same -- needing to be one or two tiles or "expensive". Time to go see!

Edit: Well poopoo. I made a line of fence and gave it the biggest gate (four tile i think?), a two tile and a one tile gate. Couldn't touch a-one of them with my 10 handiness girl. Aww. :(
Editedit: Looking at the screenshot, I tried the one and two tile "white or not" picketed gates. Nope. Even boxed the fence in this time, in case it mattered. Which it doesn't. Stupid fakewish.

We do need shelves, Lorelei. Why did they make so much collectible shit and nowhere to put it all? There's even a couple shelving unit in deco that come prefilled with deco...why didn't they give us empty ones to put all the crap on? It boggles the mind.

Poor Poppy.  She never sleeps well, always tossing and turning.  I think she might be one of the most normal-looking children in my town.

Would not be much of a contest in my 'hood, since it ends up that three of the townie kids were teen/child hybrids, looking like teen midgets. A couple of other townie kids born in the same round (it was a heavy baby-button one) are perfectly fine, so I'm stumped.

Death was very receptive, but no WooHoo actions appeared (so I assume it's male this time). However, he/she/it wasn't "aroused" enough for them to appear regardless. It's all Deshaun's work. Every house I have my chosen sims live in, I remodel and try to do something individual and quirky in. Nicole's has the loot pile. He discovers a ridiculously idyllic spot for fishing with a huge-ass waterfall.  This looks like a good spot for a wedding, he thinks.  He calls a few friends and is told that the party will start soon and shouldn't he make a few preparations.  The game refuses to allow any buy mode prep, so there are no terlets, no food, no music.  There is a huge-ass waterfall.

The guests arrive in the normal TS3 manner, notably by jogging, or materializing mysteriously out of cars, which then mysteriously dematerialize.  The guests entertain themselves by running up and down in an aimless, but silly manner.  Here we see Spookymuffin (white dress), Tigerlilley (black dress, running toward camera), Kiki (running away from camera), and one of the Langerak (sp.) boys (rich, badly dressed playboy type, I fancy).  As you can see, they have no real idea about where or why they are running, dressed in formalwear.

As there is nothing do do at the party, the guests daydream or read the newspaper (note that even the bride is reading the paper).  Everyone always seems to have a paper up their ass somewhere for just such emergencies.  Tigerlilley blows off the advances of the other of the rich playboy Langeraks.  As there are no terlets in the park, witch has a moment of temporary crisis.  Trixie (far right) is bored.

Following the wedding, the bride is overwhelmed by the discovery that there "is no food in this high mountain", and Jeebus has not shown up with any bread or fish.  jolrei and Rhayden find things they have in common.

The party finally ends, without any sign of a "party controller" and the guests go home.  The bride and groom also make their way home:
Bride: You could share my cab, you know, dear.
jolrei: Nah.  I'm good.

I would seriously buy that game just for the huge-ass waterfall. My biggest pet peeve with TS2 was the whole "background? wut background? we hav big blue emptiness 4 ur viewing pleasure" thing.

Oh Jolrei, your poor sim.  :D  First time I had a party at the park I was caught out by the same thing.

BTW I love witch's pants, what I can see of them as she dives into a pee crouch. My witch Poofs is getting really fat, I'm glad to see you're taking better care of her. Love the pictures of your sims running maniacally round a bare lot.

Try using the hot pink as a accent color, and decorate everything else in seafoam, dark teal (like seafoam on the dark end of the scale), and white wood or steel.

I've been "experimenting" with the Grim Reaper and my sim did just get the option to "Try for Baby" though it was rejected, I guess higher relationship and/or more "aroused" necessary. She's in a relationship with one Reaper and the love interest of another (two Grim Reapers, glitch?). Will continue the experiment and see what happens.

She did manage to make it through the party without embarrassment.  Well done.  Here's a better pic of witch's pants (can't say anything in the English language anymore  :P)

Hrm, maybe. I'm considering hooking her up with a babysitter, but they haven't met yet. I could see Briana in that. She's kind of a girly girl. An aimless girly girl, since her teen uncle and teen cousin both have LTWs and she has yet to roll one.

Since you can do it without cheats and it appears to be part of gameplay I assume not, though knowing EA anything could happen. I'm going to continue playing the family and see how it goes.

It's been about five days now. She has frequent thoughts about needing to pee, being hungry and tired, but she hasn't peed herself or passed out in five days. I'm waiting to see how long it takes before she dies, but I've started to wonder if NPCs on community lots have some kind of immunity. I have seen elders die of old age in public, but I've never seen an NPC have any kind of need desperation event on a community lot, let alone die of anything besides old age.

Honestly, if it can't extricate itself on its own, you probably don't want it wandering about loose and possibly breeding.

:D No kidding. She's actually my playable Sim's boss in the Science career, and still get the relationship increase when I set my Sim's work tone to 'assist boss with research'. Inge's theory is that she's researching how long she can survive trapped in the park hedge. Right now, I'm also assisting her in that research.

In my game some townie Molly French (or something like that anyway) always gets stuck in central park, on the pavement near where the toilets are. There's a kid with her there and at one time I just ignored her to see how long she would stay there, but after the kid's diaper got dirty I had to use resetsim on her because everyone started complaining about the noisy kid. The kid wasn't noisy actually, just smelly.

It could be sadorandom Sim spawning. I've noticed that it is not unusual for gems / etc. to get spawned UNDER HEDGES. Sims can't reach them, walk through them, or access the stupid gems / etc. in any way.

Makes sense that EA would fail to spawn Sims in reasonable places like on sidewalks.

One day you might find one drowning in the unswimmable pond in the park.

Sims can end up spawning in impassable and unreachable areas if the simulation is not running in "high detail" mode, meaning that minutiae are not calculated and the game just fakes it: Sims don't move, they don't satisfy motives, they're just decided to be "there" and it is faked while the player isn't looking. Unfortunately, this can result in things that SHOULD be impossible, much like autoresolving in Total War and discovering that you somehow managed to lose 1 artilleryman, which NEVER HAPPENS in an actual battle.

I like how sims that knew the person stretch their arms out as if to implore Grim when the sim begs for their life back. More realistic than in TS2, where they just stood around during the death or sniffled a little.

It appears that when a pond is big enough, you can stock different areas of it with different fish, and they don't mix. I've stocked the ponds in front of Mosquito Cove, but that stocked fish doesn't appear in the whole pond, just in an area that has a width of a few tiles, and where you can see them swimming. Kind of like the "wild" fish, too, when not all areas of a lake have the same variety of fish.

In another thread, I shared a picture of triplet 12s. The 12 screenshot was taken while I was testing something else, in a duplicate save. I've just now gotten back to the original game, and I was surprised at how they turned out as children. (I didn't really pay attention the first time around as they weren't part of my experiment.)

The first thing that popped into my head was, "how many sims is Zazazu killing per day anyway?"

I have a pretty high townie/NPC population of nearly 200 and at the time had eight playables in that house. In two days, I lost two playables to old age and around eight townies. I suppose he did have some reason, plus he'd just been flirting with Adele the night before, when he took her husband.

Anyway, that guy in the picture is one of the worst; he leaves the houses a mess. I would suggest to fire him at once.

Dumbass. Resize your shot to acceptable proportions. I like 500px wide, but up to 600px should be fine. Then upload to Imageshack or TinyPic. If you can't find those two sites, you need to give over your Internets to someone who knows how to use them.

No. The properties on your picture, mightymaroon, state 1024 x 768. That is much larger than the accepted 800 x 600 large jpeg size normally shared on the web. Personally, I usually choose the 600 x 450, which is plenty large. If you use photobucket, you can crop and resize the picture with their tools after uploading the picture from your computer.

If you read a lot of posts on this site, you would know that the last post is not considered rude. What is considered rude is not lurking around enough before posting to see what is accepted. When someone points outs ways to make the internet experience better for everyone, it is best to learn from the experience and move on.

By the way, it is a great picture. It could have been even better by cropping it. Resizing it would enable everyone to see it without having to scroll.

Collision issues are always amusing. This happened when the eldest two Test girls came home. (The Tests are a remake of my Sims1/Sims2 family, and had eleven children in Sims2. They will again in Sims3, but only have six at the moment).

Well then, appeal to the cultural stereotypes of witches. In my mind, the cultural "witch" as seen in Wicked or Sims expansion packs have little to do (nothing to do) with modern Wiccans.

To me it's not the size of her nose that makes it unfortunate. It's the combination of factors. Wide noses? Cool. Flat noses? Eh, not so much. Pointy-ended noses? Okay sometimes, depending. But wide, flat, pointy-ended nose = oh, dear.

Personally, I've noticed that I seem to prefer larger noses on people I find attractive. Just not, you know, deformity-large.

Speaking or deformed large noses, does the trick for getting parts of sims faces huge in TS2 still work in 3? If so, post a pic.

If I had to guess, I'd say somehow the baby was the one putting the toddler in the high chair - the toddler is definitely displaying "be put in high chair" animations.

Apparently its actually taking it out. Its creepy the way the baby's face is distorted, she looks like she was going to eat him.

I don't play TS3 often, but today I encountered the worst kind of horror; the 6-to-12 transformation.

I had to editsim the freak back to normal - but I soon found out the reason for this 'lapse in the game's concentration'. For some bizarre reason, CAS thought the spawn was still a 6, even though the game knew he was a 12. Much LOLWUT ensues.

That Eighties Guy, did you try getting the guy another cup of coffee or using moveobjects to put the cup on a counter or table somewhere? Others have had this problem before and I think they had to move the cup somewhere and then have a sim finish the interrupted drinking animations. I think selling the cup also worked.

That's what I'd like to know.  Obviously, it's something about griffins or wyverns, and some fond memory about it, too, to gauge from the happy face symbol, as if he fucked it on prom night and can never think about it without smiling wistfully.

Obviously somebody at EA sympathized, or they wouldn't have bothered to go to the trouble of actually making an icon for this.

I think the fantasy creatures are some sort of in-joke referring to the "no supernatural creatures" stance that Rod Humble has.  There are often protests in front of town hall where people protest Yeti (as well as what appears to be Mr. Humble's computer from TS2).   Apparently your Sim is pro-supe.

(I miss the conversations in TS2 that you could actually almost follow, complete with relevant animations.  I keep trying to analyze the conversations in TS3 and completely fail.)

That makes two of us, but I have to admit that I do get the occasional snicker out of trying to make sense of the "flirtatious joke" or whatever that interaction is called.

You know, actually. I ordered his birthday party at the beach, but I noticed there weren't much stuff around. ('Nor some damned toilets) so I went into Edit Town and added a few terlets.
Next thing I knew, my sim had morphed to his house and a message popped up.
"A few items has been added to your sims inventory" (Or something) and the cup was gone from his hand, lying in the inventory. Man versus porcelain. Man succeeded.

I do not understand how people can like that Moonlight skin. It looks like they have some sort of severe facial bruising or reverse vitiligo.

I play with HP's skins not because I really like them, but because they aren't as bad as the others I've seen (plus, the glow is more noticeable because of the picture sharpening which is my fault). 

I'd make my own, but I'm still trying to figure out hair meshing and conversion right now.  Changing code is easier than figuring out Milkshape, for me.

My college roommate had this poster that had circles that seemed to move as you moved your head.  She was very disappointed to discover that the higher you got, the less the circles seemed to move.

I can't do those magic eye pictures either, I think it is because I had surgery on my eyes when I was younger.   This one seems to move a little bit, but I don't know how much everyone else is seeing.

For me, the right side doesn't spin, but the left never stops unless I focus on one spot. Then all movement stops. It moves from the white side to the black side in a counter-clockwise fashion.

She had the LTW of Surrounded by Family and had to get one more in before aging up. I moved the bed into the kid's room to see if they would woohoo there for the lulz.
I find newborns to be easy - just feed/snuggle/change diaper/put in crib when they start to cry. Toddlers are self-sufficient if you potty train them first and just put out a ton of books for them to read. All they need if an occasional feeding then it's just like a newborn: snuggle, change diaper, put in crib. I hardly ever teach to walk or talk in this family 'cuz I'm on the random generation of traits kick. I can handle 4 kids (two sets of twins) with one stay-at-home mom. Granted, she's got a moodlet manager to help me, er her, out.

I must be a bad parent, too.  Hell, we nearly squashed the baby under us. 

I don't bother toilet/talk/walk training the toddlers.  It's so time-expensive it's hardly worth it.  I just let them max out skill on the toys (xylophone, pegs, building-blocks) and then birthday-cake 'em up.  One random trait won't hurt.  After that, they can earn A's on their own time allowing you to choose the next two traits.

The texture on Ms. PeePee's hair is terrible. It reminds me of some of the early Sims (1) hairs and faces.

Haha, sims always laugh at my sims for peeing :). They also laugh when my sim goes to the park in their underwear, I was surprised at that one XD.

But I think the texture thing is that the roots are waaay to dark.

The roots are too dark (and far too long), but that's not the only problem. The plaits in the braids are oddly shadowed, and the whole thing looks like a paste-up someone cut out of a magazine and slapped over her head. It's either because it's the wrong scale, or just the wrong style (too photo-real versus the game's plastic puddings). Or both.

It's Peggy. It's ripped from some Poser mesh inexpertly, as is all her work.

When you see that weird kind of square pixelation, that's caused by shadows, probably from the hair.  Like this:

Turn off shadows and they will go away.  And your game will be faster.  And your game will look more natural. 

Somebody suggested that you need to have the "particles" graphic option set to high if you want to have shadows on and work, but I haven't tried that.  I just keep shadows off.

I think square pixeled shadows only happen if you are stressing your computer or pushing it too hard. I got it on my old card whenever I turned on shadows, and now that I have my new card the shadows are smoother then the sims. But the whole bald head shows up on all my sims. *is not amused*. But you should try upping your other settings, I have everything maxed so it may just be a setting you need to put on high. Also you may want to try Advanced Rendering if you don't have it on, it makes shadows and trees way more worth it.

The graveyard beach has been extremely lol to observe thus far. The ghosts come out, and the late-night beachgoers go "hmmm, perhaps it's time to leave."

I love the pool of blood one :D... that's inovative, ha ha. I always make my pools either black or blue or blue walls with a bech sand looking bottom. In sims 2 I had this wallpaper that was white at the top and darkened to black at the bottom, and with a black carpet at the bottom of pool, it looked like bottemless pit!

Krib, so your beach lot functions as it should in attracting sims? Why don't you post a thread in the pudding section and share some of your stuff that way? You will have to host them on The Box or 4shared or whatever. Pictures are good too.

I also like the house with the grey roof missing the central section. I might try that, it's a nice effect, I'm glad I thought of it.  :P

Yeah, the beach does seem to work as a normal beach. I might be wrong about what that means - but people walk around, sit in the chairs, etc. I've noticed the game identify it as a graveyard and a beach different times I've loaded though. I think when I added real graves instead of just the fake ones from that tombstone mod, that tipped the balance and made it a graveyard again (it has the tombstone icon). But it still gets foot traffic.

I'll be happy to post up some stuff in the pudding forum. Stupid question - which one do I want? Factory or World of Puddings?

Pudding Factory is for TS3 creations of various sorts.

World of Puddings is mainly for the sims of recognisable MATYans.

I would love little people sims! Call me weird, but one thing I've always wanted, right from TS1, is a way to create sims with physical and mental differences. I had a mentally challenged family member who passed a few years back, and all through university I worked part time (and some summers) as a recreation counsellor for special needs kids. I adored getting to know them, and wish sims could spawn more unique children in my game.

Sad but true: I used to tweak the rare sim in third party programs to keep toddler or child characteristics and actions while still appearing teen or older. They made neighbourhoods more interesting by adding some variety.

Everyone are just white pylons. With different hair styles.

Damn Hollywood, everyone seems so perfect.

If you just leave the camera still and focus on those blocky sims for a while, they straighten out and finish completely rendering.  That happens a lot when you are starting the game or especially if you have deleted your caches.

Absolutely shocking game, TS2 on the DS. I know because I wasted thirty quid on it.

Shockingly piss-poor graphics aside, the story and the game itself was no better. Your character crashes their car or something in some random village (to call it a town, like the game's creators did is just taking the piss - it's a bloody cul-de-sac with a handful of buildings) in the middle of nowhere, and decides that rather than get the car fixed, they'll erm... Run a hotel. For a "town" that gets no tourists, populated by people who can't do anything for themselves. Oh, and like Animal Crossing, the game keeps going long after you tire of it - which you'll do after half an hour.

Not to mention after I had nearly beat the darn game, it got stuck on the same part and I couldn't do anything to progress, and just had to start over (EA did it again). The town was supposed to be Strangetown, in the middle of the desert. The graphics were most definitely lacking, but I've never been a big fan of the DS.
They also have sims 2 for PSP. It has way better graphics, and I actually enjoy the story line on it. It's really weird with robot wives, a missing garbage man, and a lady who keeps having her husbands die. You can even furnish your own house.

I've never enjoyed any of The Sims spin offs. I had the PS2 version and took it back to the shop after playing for just a few hours.

I rather enjoyed the console Castaways. It had a more castaway feel to it than the Stories game, and less of this random voodoo bullshit. It felt more like I was going from having nothing to better and better survival as the game progressed, rather than "okay, now you have a house and everything's just fine, so focus on the storyline!"

Aside from being composed entirely of Kewian-based substitutes, and therefore, totally worthless and insuperior to simply having an empty lot? I can not only make that smaller, I can make it BETTER, by reducing it to a total of zero tiles and no furniture. Accept no Kewian-based substitutes!

You weren't actually allowed to FAIL the storyline. It was not possible to NOT survive. You couldn't starve, pass out, or piss yourself, so there was just no way to actually lose.

Yes it does get rather high ratings from the Kewian scale. I suppose an urge to satisfy my aesthetical perversions got the better of me.

Oh, really? Well nevermind then. I borrowed it, so I only had a few days to play it - I played through once and didn't get around to experimenting much.

The Urbz was pretty much the same in that regard, except you could pass out. No matter how hard I tried, I couldn't kill my sim off. Yet despite this minor problem, the game itself was actually quite rare among the various Sim games released on PS2 - It was actually fun, albeit ridiculously short.

Orange - Seeing as all sims need is a toilet to sit down on to eat, you could pretty much remove the table and chair and still have a functional lot. You could probably get rid of the shower too seeing as a sink seems to be good enough for my waster sims!

The Urbz was okay. Decent, but not as interesting as it could have been.

I think TS1 for console is the only one that is actually any good. I mean, it actually looks better than the PC version, your sims can actually die during the story IIRC, it has humour and does the goal based gameplay much better, as it just gives you some long term goals to achieve over time rather than the rigid "Go here. Now go there. Now do this" which the other console and stories games did.

Because the option to "try for baby" came up loooong before proposal, and they were teetering dangerously close to elderhood, so I went ahead and insiminated.  Of course she didn't make it to the wedding before having the baby.  (Thank God you can change Baby's name at city hall!)

It was a 'destination wedding' and she almost didn't show up.  Anyways, she did, sans baby, and when the households were merged, what happens to the baby??

I'm almost certain that babies are invincible. I've left them inside burning rooms and starved them for weeks by constantly deleting the social workers that keep coming to try to take them away. If you put them in a pool they will just sit there. Babies can't die! It's only possible to kill children and up AFAIK :(

The burglar is waiting patiently where the cop left her. Also, I just recently found out that when the burglar is waiting outside, clicking on her allows the option to "set free". Haven't tried it yet, but I shall sooner rather than later.

Let us know what happens. I suspect you just get a relationship boost with the burglar and possibly a moodlet. I'm not sure if it's dependant on traits, either. I wasn't really paying much attention. :P

In my case, you just gain a new burglar friend. The newly befriended burglar will not anymore try to rob your house, though other burglars will still attempt to rob you.

I finally found the lot that has the squatter opportunity when you first buy the house.  And inside were RATS!

Where is it? I've never managed to find that lot.

I don't have the tutorial running and this was my 68th person in the neighborhood.  You do however need to have no active households selected, choose Move In and select a family from the sim bin and pick a lot they can afford.  I have been doing a lot of testing and I found the scenarios are lot specific, but they are totally random when they will show up.  This lot was 306 Skyborough Blvd.  There are also, insect infestation, meteor, water main break, ghosts, weeds, and squatters.

I should clarify, it is not house specific, it is lot specific.  You can buy the lot furnished or unfurnished.

Edited to add that you can not have Hand Of God on or it will clear the trash before the rats come.

Ta. Now I know how to trigger them, I'll give it a go. I've already got Hand of God turned off so no worries. I never used the families that came with the game but I've got them backed up somewhere.
