Title: Magic Wand question Post by: reggikko on 2009 April 20, 22:52:18 Feel free to P&L. I have never used the magic wand because it seems too cheaty for regular use. However, I would like to use it for apartments. The RTFM is a little skimpy on information. How, exactly do I use it? Do I install it on a lot when building? Do I have to move a Sim in to use it?
Title: Re: Magic Wand question Post by: Strangel on 2009 April 20, 23:08:26 I had the same questions.
When in Build Mode (I do it before moving anyone in) go to Collections and select Magic Wand Collection. Grab the "wand"box and wave your arrow and the held box all over the place. Delete box. Save. Title: Re: Magic Wand question Post by: reggikko on 2009 April 20, 23:13:22 Thanks. After I posted I realized moving a Sim in would kind of defeat the purpose. I was about to edit my post when I saw the reply. Dur. :D
Title: Re: Magic Wand question Post by: Strangel on 2009 April 20, 23:25:03 :D Well, you know how the PSA goes...

Title: Re: Magic Wand question Post by: snowbawl on 2009 April 21, 04:56:46 Can I point and laugh anyway? :P
Title: Re: Magic Wand question Post by: akatonbo on 2009 April 21, 05:32:36 That was what I wanted to know about the magic wand too.
Title: Re: Magic Wand question Post by: Strangel on 2009 April 21, 09:09:12 Can I point and laugh anyway? :P Doubly, since I thought I had to wave it around the lot.Title: Re: Magic Wand question Post by: jolrei on 2009 April 21, 11:54:07 Can I point and laugh anyway? :P Doubly, since I thought I had to wave it around the lot.Well, the RTFM says "wave it around". I was almost sure one did not have to actually wave it, but I always do anyway. Makes me feel better. Like pressing the button that is already pressed on the elevator when you get on. Positive futile action FTW. Title: Re: Magic Wand question Post by: mildlydisguised on 2009 April 21, 17:35:15 When I first used it, I wondered whether the duration of the waving was directly proportional to the monetary reduction. I can confirm that it isn't, just in case there is someone else out there wondering the same thing.
Edit - I also enjoy futile button pressing. Title: Re: Magic Wand question Post by: Gwill on 2009 April 21, 21:29:07 You don't really need to wave it around. Yes you do! You also have to make "swish-swosh" noises and finsh with a small "whee!". That's what I do anyway, and it's always worked for me. Title: Re: Magic Wand question Post by: Marhis on 2009 April 21, 22:00:21 My button pressing is never futile, I always push the "ground floor" button last, when I go upstairs with the elevator. It has a purpose: it resets the elevator to default.
Now please tell me I'm not the only one. Title: Re: Magic Wand question Post by: witch on 2009 April 22, 04:27:58 Nope, 'fraid not, I leave the lift to go where it wills - or where it's called. ;D
I do push the walk button at intersections compulsively, even if I've seen someone else do it. I don't, however, like it when someone comes along and pushes it after me. I want to tell them, "it's OK, it's all under control, I have pushed the button". Title: Re: Magic Wand question Post by: Exiled on 2009 April 22, 05:48:41 This is strange.
I killed Don Lothario and the lot became vacant afterwards, could be bought for $15,000. I wave the wand around and the monetary value of the lot goes UP, to $33,000. Why did it go up? Title: Re: Magic Wand question Post by: J. M. Pescado on 2009 April 22, 05:58:58 The Magic Wand will also correct price bugginess caused by the Ingelogical Stay Things Shrub. Some people package lots that have been bugged by contact with this object, and the Magic Wand will fix it, which will cause the value of the lot to be correctly computed (in your example, it was bugged and not being properly calculated).
Title: Re: Magic Wand question Post by: Yecats on 2009 April 22, 07:02:07 If I'm in an elevator and I'm feeling grumpy or annoyed, I'll ride it to the top and press every button as I leave. Muwaahaahaa.
Title: Re: Magic Wand question Post by: jolrei on 2009 April 22, 12:27:50 Edit - I also enjoy futile button pressing. Of course you do. I had no doubt that you would. Title: Re: Magic Wand question Post by: caterpillar on 2009 April 22, 17:06:28 This is strange. I killed Don Lothario and the lot became vacant afterwards, could be bought for $15,000. I wave the wand around and the monetary value of the lot goes UP, to $33,000. Why did it go up? Some objects appreciate rather than depreciate over time, and using the magic wand makes them go up in price rather than down. Title: Re: Magic Wand question Post by: J. M. Pescado on 2009 April 24, 01:14:56 Actually, that's simply not how it works. The reason the lot value went from 15K to 33K is due to the Ingelogical Stayable Bug. Period. There were supposed to be items on the lot, but their costs were not being properly counted due to the bug, and the Magic Wand fixes that bug so that they are.
Title: Re: Magic Wand question Post by: Strangel on 2009 April 24, 01:31:44 I understand the fixing of bugged items would be the result in changed lotprice in this instance. Is it true paintings go up in value once the painter dies?
Title: Re: Magic Wand question Post by: aubreylaraine on 2009 April 26, 20:50:08 i'm pretty sure that if you magic wand an apartment lot before moving sims in decreases the value of the whole lot permanently, but if you do it after moving sims in it decreases on a renter by renter basis.
Title: Re: Magic Wand question Post by: Zazazu on 2009 April 27, 20:47:00 When you load just an occupied apartment, it loads the apartment sublot and changes affect the apartment sublot, not the apartment base. So that makes sense. It's the same sort of effect you get when you cheat around to add items outside of the apartment bounds and then load the lot with another family.
Title: Re: Magic Wand question Post by: jolrei on 2009 April 28, 12:23:54 I notice that, if you are building a lot, and you toggle night-time, you have to wave the wand to get all the lights to turn on in build mode. This is one reason to wave the thing around, rather than just set it down and pick it up again.
Title: Re: Magic Wand question Post by: J. M. Pescado on 2009 April 28, 22:44:07 I notice that, if you are building a lot, and you toggle night-time, you have to wave the wand to get all the lights to turn on in build mode. This is one reason to wave the thing around, rather than just set it down and pick it up again. There is actually no difference that occurs with extended waving vs. quick brandishing. The effects occur the moment you drag the wand over a worldtile, it doesn't matter how much you wave it about. However, the lights have a delayed fade-on effect, so it takes them time to go from their off state to fully illuminating the room, because it takes time for the dark to leave the room. It has to do with the speed of dark.Title: Re: Magic Wand question Post by: Fat D on 2009 April 30, 19:18:47 I notice that, if you are building a lot, and you toggle night-time, you have to wave the wand to get all the lights to turn on in build mode. Pescado on 2009 May 01, 07:14:56 Are the "particles" carrying the dark called antiphotons, maurons or some other name? I haven't the slightest clue. But it is clear that Dark has a speed that is seperate from the speed of light: Just witness that you can still visibly move your hand between the time you shut off the light and the time the room actually becomes dark. Since the electricity and the light both move at speeds far, far too fast for you to see, this lag is clearly imposed by the speed of dark: Once the Dark is no longer being repelled by the photons of light, it still takes time for the particles or whatever of Dark to enter the room.Title: Re: Magic Wand question Post by: nanacake on 2009 May 01, 16:28:21 I can't find the magic wand. It's not coming up in collections. I have ep up to BV.
Title: Re: Magic Wand question Post by: jolrei on 2009 May 01, 17:07:17 I can't find the magic wand. It's not coming up in collections. I have ep up to BV. Did you, in fact, download it and install it? Title: Re: Magic Wand question Post by: snowbawl on 2009 May 01, 17:17:15 If you would kindly remove your tight pants, so that the magic wand may be revealed. We are certainly not putting OUR hands down there.
Yeah, what jolrei said. Title: Re: Magic Wand question Post by: Strangel on 2009 May 02, 09:38:36 I can't find the magic wand. It's not coming up in collections. I have ep up to BV. Are you looking in Collections in BUILD mode? It looks like a box. Similar to the Stuck Object Remover. Title: Re: Magic Wand question Post by: nanacake on 2009 May 02, 14:24:18 Did you, in fact, download it and install it? Yes I put the collections file in collections, and put the magic wand file in downloads. I only have 7 custom collection files the rest are all maxis, and it's not showing up at all. Are you looking in Collections in BUILD mode? It looks like a box. Similar to the Stuck Object Remover. I did click the collections file while in build mode. Thank you for telling me it is a box. It is not appearing in the buy mode catalog where the others boxes show up (misc/all). Can it only be accessed from collections? I'm perplexed as every other *hack* I have is only from this website (took out non awesome things long ago), besides a few defaults for skin clothes from mts2. Normally all goes well. :-\ Could it be I need a higher ep? Title: Re: Magic Wand question Post by: Lion on 2009 May 02, 14:31:04 I keep seeing people saying put the collection file in the collection folder. It never matters to me. I always leave collection files that come with the objects in the downloads folder, and they always show up.
Title: Re: Magic Wand question Post by: Zazazu on 2009 May 02, 15:06:04 Can it only be accessed from collections? Yes. The collections icon is the OFB one. I have mine moved to the first spot in the list.Title: Re: Magic Wand question Post by: nanacake on 2009 May 02, 15:58:12 Yes. The collections icon is the OFB one. I have mine moved to the first spot in the list. Thanks Zazazu! :D I have found it. But it won't allow me to change the icon at all or move it to the top of the list not easily anyways, I have to move all the stupid maxis collections to the back now meh- is it safe to just delete them?I went right past it because I thought it was the OFB one. Title: Re: Magic Wand question Post by: Strangel on 2009 May 02, 16:03:10 Glad you found it, nanacaek. I had the same issue when I first looked for it.
