More Awesome Than You!

My stupid game won't freaking load. I'll click on the shortcut and it'll eventually go to the title screen and play the music. But then, it doesn't display the moving text at the bottom and it doesn't load the game. It just sits there, playing music. I have all the expansion packs minus BV and H&M, Glamour Life, and K&B stuff. I use a virtual drive to load it, so no SecuRom for me~

Help?

Go to My Documents\EA Games\The Sims 2 and delete groups.cache.  You can also try deleting any custom content you installed recently, as CC can break things if incompetently made or when incompatible with your setup.

I tried deleting groups.cache before, it didn't work. My CC isn't the problem, my game used to work a few months ago. I haven't touched it since around September or so. I've been busy. By the way, I made the sig myself when I was nine. I would rather use a normal sig picture, but I figured that annoyed you since no one else has it.

Have you added a shit-ton of stuff to your computer since September?

Homework: Run a Disc Cleanup, Defrag your harddrive, and pull your ENTIRE CC folder. If it boots, shut down and put the CC back in.
Turn in homework WITHOUT using OMGCAPSLOCK and maybe there can be some help made from there.

I am currently in love with CCleaner, thanks to V. It got rid of all manner of weird things I had clotting up the works.

Ugh, Defragging. I checked and I have loads of contagious and fragged files. Plus, I only have 7% space, and it takes hours. I'll try removing CC, even though I didn't add any. I didn't even touch my game since September. Oh, and can you give me a link to the CCleaner Assmitten?

._.; Sorry about asking for a link... Anyway, I took out the downloads folder and used CCleaner and it loaded :D I'm going to try to load it with the downloads folder...

Now you move on to 50/50. Open a new folder on your desktop, move half your CC to that folder. Boot up. If it works, that half is safe, swap it with the other ha--- wait.. you have 7% space available on your harddrive? Try paring down your CC and removing any files/programs from your computer that you've gotten tired of or moved beyond. It may be that your computer can't run the game.
In the past, I've had my game refuse to load because I hit some magic limit on my CC. If I removed a couple items, it'd load (though it still took forever). Also, keep in mind the more CC you have the LONGER it'll take to load the game. At the max, I had a wait time of about an hour to reach the neighborhood chooser screen.

No, it annoys me because it is extremely childish. When you signed up for this forum, you avowed that you were at least 18. You obviously aren't, as you appear as a 12, and you can't convincingly fake like Kutto (for example). Also, I want to punch your avatar in the nads.

If you only have 7% of your computer open, you have too much crap on it. Ask mommy & daddy if you can delete their porn.

*sighs* I only came here for help with my game. As soon as it's fixed, I'll leave. I heard this place had good advice for when something's broken in your game. M'kay? I'll lurk after this. Oh, and everyone in my family has their own computer, for the record. By the way, I found out I had over 4,000 files in my downloads folder  :o

7% free space sounds like a prime candidate for the OS to thrash the pagefile and then give up.

I'm feeling really nice today apparently, so... here you go.

Here is how to get awesome advice here:

1. Give up on this thread for now, it's probably a lost cause.
2. Read every FAQ and sticky in this forum. Every single one either has good game-related information, or tips on how to function here without getting your face eaten. Both are good.
3. We are a forum full of adults, or at least people who pass for adults; as a group we find childish behavior irritating. You agreed when you signed up that either you were not a child, or you could manage to pretend you were not a child. You're failing at this. Examine your behavior, and figure out for yourself how to be less annoying.
4. Having read the FAQ and stickies, go as far as you're able by yourself to fix your problem with the new information. Once you've done that, you can make a new thread, making sure to provide as much information as possible. (For example, in this thread it might have helped to mention that you'd already deleted groups.cache, to prevent someone from suggesting it again.)
