Title: Codec of DEATH (The 12 needs assistance with not screwing up)
Post by: Bonzodog on 2008 December 26, 11:54:28
*twitch*

Okay, I need to ask a question, because for some dumbass reason I tried the BBS and mainly got "I dunno lol". ALOT. I should have asked here first, but I'm allergic to gasoline and matches. Please don't bite me  :P

*copy and paste is your friend*

I was using Movie Maker to make a Machinima for the Sims 2. Three imported video files I was using, when put into the timeline, showed only black, not the video. I just didn't put them in, watched the video through, deemed it fine and published it. When I tried to watch it in WMP, I just got a black screen where ALL the video should be. The pictures/screenshots showed up fine, as did any titles/credits.

I've tried publishing it again, and the same thing happens, except this time the very first video file with the title shows up. It plays fine in WMM, with the exception of occasionally the source vids showing as black, but when I watch the finished product it's fine.

Now when I try to import, I get this message:

The file *it says the file name here* cannot be imported because the codec required to play the file is not installed on your computer. If you have already tried to download and install the codec, close and restart Windows Movie Maker, and then try to import the file again.

So I assume I need to install a codec, but a quick search tells me there's thousands. What do I need to download/install/do?

Ignore this, my question was answered over at the BBS. I suppose there's a first time for everything  :D

I use GSpot (http://www.headbands.com/gspot/) to detect codecs.

I use CCCP (http://www.cccp-project.net/) to make sure I have all the right codecs.
