Title: Harvesting Plants. Post by: Emma on 2008 December 16, 06:57:50 When I directed my sim to harvest plants, before actually harvesting them he turns round on the spot loads of times, and the plants take ages to disappear. I am sure I have heard of this problem before, but couldn't find anything about it in a search. Is there a fix?
Title: Re: Harvesting Plants. Post by: J. M. Pescado on 2008 December 16, 06:59:18 How are you directing them to do this?
Title: Re: Harvesting Plants. Post by: Emma on 2008 December 16, 07:11:51 Clicking on the plants, harvest>many.
Title: Re: Harvesting Plants. Post by: J. M. Pescado on 2008 December 16, 07:13:11 That would still have the bug, yes. You should use Macro Garden instead, that will harvest and be able to detect the bugged plants and ignore them.
Title: Re: Harvesting Plants. Post by: Emma on 2008 December 16, 07:15:27 I usually do use it, but with this family I need them to harvest fruit/veg other than just the best quality.
Title: Re: Harvesting Plants. Post by: SaraMK on 2008 December 16, 07:16:45 I think that's fixed by a hack at Paladin's... not sure though.
Title: Re: Harvesting Plants. Post by: Emma on 2008 December 16, 07:19:46 I just checked Sara, and I don't think there is. Thanks though.
Title: Re: Harvesting Plants. Post by: J. M. Pescado on 2008 December 16, 07:21:36 I usually do use it, but with this family I need them to harvest fruit/veg other than just the best quality. Is there a specific reason why you'd WANT to? Low-quality fruit is basically worthless and has no function other than to be dumped for FPV. And even that is reduced by 50%-ish, making the entire exercise rather pointless.Title: Re: Harvesting Plants. Post by: Emma on 2008 December 16, 07:23:54 This is how I am making them eat :D Empty fridge needs food! Pond is frozen, so no fish.
Title: Re: Harvesting Plants. Post by: J. M. Pescado on 2008 December 16, 07:38:07 This is how I am making them eat :D Empty fridge needs food! Pond is frozen, so no fish. So what's wrong with just using the high quality produce? High quality produce has 50-200% more FPV than their lower quality equivalents, and it does NOT cost 1.5-4x more time to generate. Once again, Macrotastics is smarter than you. :PTitle: Re: Harvesting Plants. Post by: GayJohnScarritt on 2008 December 16, 08:36:22 Emma, if you have AL, the fix from Paladin is under his AL Fixes Category. "Harvested Plants Disappear Promptly"
Title: Re: Harvesting Plants. Post by: Emma on 2008 December 16, 09:15:09 Excellent GJS, thanks ;D
Pescado, I normally would, but this family is starting from nothing. I mean, literally nothing. They need food! They paid for a fridge and grill by selling items they dug up :D They sleep in a tent! Winter is coming and they need at least 4x4 walls to stop from freezing while sleeping. Only one of them has a bronze gardening badge, they need to eat sub-standard produce. The other one is a fisherman, so only a bronze fishing badge for him. Title: Re: Harvesting Plants. Post by: J. M. Pescado on 2008 December 16, 10:43:36 You don't need a gold badge to get good produce. Just let Macrotastics do its thing: It's smarter than a mere EMMA!
Title: Re: Harvesting Plants. Post by: nekonoai on 2008 December 16, 13:18:53 I love setting the clowncar boys to BE FARMER all the time. cause then they don't get into any other trouble, and just take care of the crops like normal.

Oh yeah, watering. I forgot about that. Title: Re: Harvesting Plants. Post by: Maygus on 2008 December 16, 17:15:56 You don't need a gold badge to get good produce. Just let Macrotastics do its thing At the risk of sounding like a fawning sycophant, I wanna say that the garden macro is Awesome. Until I tried it, I was ready to give up on gardens and orchards because they require so much micromanagement. This is how I am making them eat :D Empty fridge needs food! Pond is frozen, so no fish. At the risk of sounding like a peevish pedant, just wanna point out that you can double the food-unit value of your produce by nurturing lower quality produce up to mouthwatering status before you harvest it. Sometimes, one extra weed-and-water cycle is all it takes. Title: Re: Harvesting Plants. Post by: seelindarun on 2008 December 16, 20:54:37 You don't sound like a pedant, which is difficult around here, but you do sound like a noob. This effect is well-known and Macro' already takes advantage of this very thing. In fact, even if your farmer is a complete idiot, Macro' will patiently take him in hand, and force him to water a sickly plant all the way to mouth-watering condition, before permitting him to harvest.
Have a stroll on over to the War Room. While it is nowhere near comprehensive, it captures the gist of what MATYzens assume you know already. Title: Re: Harvesting Plants. Post by: Emma on 2008 December 17, 18:44:28 Maygus, I know what Macro>Garden can do, I've used it for months and months...I am playing without it on this one self-sufficent family, I use it for all my other families. The problem wasn't the fact of less-than-mouthwatering food, it was the fact that my sim was turning round numerous times and the plants were taking an age to disappear. M'kay?
Title: Re: Harvesting Plants. Post by: Maygus on 2008 December 17, 19:03:53 Note to self: people with post counts > 5000 probably don't need my recommendations. :-\
Title: Re: Harvesting Plants. Post by: jolrei on 2008 December 17, 19:08:42 Note to self: people with post counts > 5000 probably don't need to hear my recommendations. :-\ Well done, Maygus. ;D I think I've figured out what's wrong with running TJ's perfectgardens hack. My sims never seem to gain garden skills beyond the ability to grow tomatoes, since there is never any call to water, weed, or otherwise tend. It's a plant and harvest only hack, it seems. I've removed it, in hopes of growing some sort of variety. Title: Re: Harvesting Plants. Post by: Emma on 2008 December 17, 19:13:11 Yeah, I just use Perfect Plants. The other one seems too cheaty to me :D
Title: Re: Harvesting Plants. Post by: Madame Mim on 2008 December 17, 21:32:05 I seem to remember that there were two flavours of perfect plants (I use neither) one for just the flowers and shrubs and one that encompassed all green and growing things.
Title: Re: Harvesting Plants. Post by: jolrei on 2008 December 17, 21:41:06 Yeah, I've moved back to just perfectplants. That way they don't look quite so completely stupid when I tell them to "be farmer".
