Title: The dreaded jump bug *SOLVED*
Post by: claudiasharon on 2008 December 02, 21:01:19
I just installed M&G, which updates Apartment Life (I hadn't patched it yet before) and now my sims suffer from the jump bug. I never installed the Freetime or Apartment Life patches because they kept reupdating them and I was worried they'd bork my game. Is there someway to fix the jump bug, I'm not sure what caused it but it was working fine before I installed M&G.

Turn on debug. Attach an error log.

I've never debugged before, how do I do it?

<ctrl><shift>C  to open cheat box.

Type in "boolprop testingcheatsenabled true" (without the quotes, of course).

The jump you see is the error happening and the game automatically resetting the sim.  With debug mode on, there will be no jump.  Instead, your sim will freeze and an error box will pop up asking what you want to do, and giving you choices.  You can choose "reset".  Additionally, an error log will be saved to your Logs sub-folder in your My Documents/EAGames/Sims2 folder.  You can upload this error log here (read the FAQ in the Podium section for directions on how to do that).

I hope I did this right.

Edit: I seem to get that pop up option to reset whenever an NPC comes by (the newspaper girl, the maid, etc).
Oh and sims walking by brings up the error too.

I got quite a few error logs so I zipped them and uploaded them here: http://www.sendspace.com/file/njq1hh (http://www.sendspace.com/file/njq1hh) since the files are too big to upload here (it's 1 MB).

Once again, I point the blame squarely at tight pants.

Well, I have been gaining weight lately...could be the pants.

Tight pants:  something in your error log shows non-maxis and non-awesome code.  Therefore, you either have:
1) an old version of a hack not compatible with your latest EP;
2) incompatible hacks from non-MATY sources (the works of the non-awesome); or
3) bad CC objects/meshes screwing with your game.

You will need to remove your hacks and CC and do the binary search.  See the FAQ for how to do this.  Essentially, you are narrowing down exactly what is borking your game.

The easy way:  remove all hacks.  Download NEW awesome hacks from the director's cut and install only them.  Test your game.  If it works, great.  Then add back in other non-awesome hacks one by one, testing to make sure the error does not return.

A game that has only awesome hacks should not throw errors.  If errors persist at this point, there is some other CC that is causing the problem and the binary search would  be necessary to weed it out.

I asked the same question at simbology since I have some of TwoJeffs hacks and they said it was Carrigon's hacks that needed to be updated.
So the problem's all fixed. Thanks for the help!
