Title: I think my sim is corrupt Post by: Jorganza on 2008 November 30, 19:42:02 Hey everyone,
After I took out my downloads folder I noticed that one of my sims keeps crashing on me, specifically when I try to change his appearance or when I try to age him. I thought that maybe it had to do with his custom hair but the problem keeps happening with or without CC. I tried deleting him and bringing him back, deleting the two caches, giving him a make-over on another lot but nothing is working. He's the only one that's having problems too, no one else in the household nor anyone else in the neighborhood is having this problem. I moved him out and put moved him in a different house, but that didn't work either. Now every time I try to load the house, the game crashes after the bright lines have come and gone. Is there anyway to save him? Title: Re: I think my sim is corrupt Post by: Jorganza on 2008 December 01, 01:04:04 I think it might be too late to use SimPE now, I had the sim for probably about a year now and he's met so many other sims that it might be difficult to delete and repair all the relations he has.
However, I really don't have any other ideas so I'll look into that. Title: Re: I think my sim is corrupt Post by: Darby on 2008 December 01, 01:19:26 Eh, why not just focus on recreating family ties, if he has any family? For non-family, link him back up with a handful of the most important friends and/or lovers and let him re-meet the rest. Newly created, he'll be back at the beginning of his adult phase, I assume. If so, there's plenty of time for rebuilding the rest in-game. :)
Title: Re: I think my sim is corrupt Post by: Jorganza on 2008 December 02, 01:42:13 Yeah that sounds good. I'm wondering though, is it possible to bring the old sim's memories and put those into the new ones, or am I just going to have to suck it up?
Title: Re: I think my sim is corrupt Post by: jolrei on 2008 December 02, 03:01:39 These things are possible with SimPE, but a LOT of tedious work rebuilding all the memories. What you get, if you clone your sim properly, is a working sim. You can set up relationships, family ties, friendships with other sims, personality points, skill points, interests, etc. For all intents and purposes, you can "rebuild" your sim and drop him back into the game, even as you kill your old sim. The only thing that sim won't have is the memory of a first kiss with "cute teen girl", or first woohoo with "hunky beefcake YA guy" in Uni. Your sim will essentially have to do those things over again. I believe if you set up the sim as married to 'other sim', the game interpolates the memory of getting married (if they are married, it must have happened, right?). Any other memories, your sim will just have to experience the stuff again (vacations, hobby contests, etc.).
On the other hand, what's the alternative? You have a borked sim. You could have him unborked, but a bit of an amnesiac. Title: Re: I think my sim is corrupt Post by: Jorganza on 2008 December 02, 22:51:19 Your right, an unborked sim is better than no sim. I started writing down all the basic information and probably won't even worry about a lot of the memories, if any at all. But I can't get my bodyshop to work, it loads about a quarter of a way and just shuts off without warning. Grrr.
Anyways, I was trying to think what could possibly ruin my sim and I realized this sim had a custom skin. Could this have been the problem? I stupidly forgot that when I went through my downloads of what to keep, I forgot about one skin, and this sim was the only one that had this custom skin. Ding, ding, ding! I think we have a winner. :D Title: Re: I think my sim is corrupt Post by: Jorganza on 2008 December 08, 01:29:57 I'm just continuing on this post instead of making a new one.
Ok, so I made the sim duplicate with everything carried over to the new one and he is in the neighborhood, but I don't know what to do next. I've looked through simPE and found the relationship panel, so is that what I have to do next, go through each individual relationship between the corrupt sim and the other sims and change them to nuetral and cut off ties with the family members, or is there a much better way of doing it? I was about to start with that, but I wanted to make sure I wasn't going to blow up my game any further. And then afterwards just connect my new sim that way to the immediate family?
