Title: Who the hell do you think you are? Post by: Zeljka on 2005 November 09, 23:49:22 Ok, so send me off to Retardo Land, but I generally stick to new replies or posts so perhaps I'm way off base posting this here but I'd really like to see a hack that limits visitor autonomy and I have never come across one.
Building my case for retardo land, I still haven't installed the EPs, so if this exists, I would appreciate being pointed and laughed at and directed to such. In a nutshell, visitors are driving me bonkers. In a perfect sim world, visitors would follow whoever home and be good houseguests. They would not head straight to the chess board, pool, computer, a meal that was not served to them, turn on a stereo, remove an exhausted baby or toddler from a crib, insult a family member they haven't been introduced to etc. I would like them to just stand there, or sit in the closest seat until interacted with by a family member. The only autonomy I would allow them if I knew how to do so myself would be the toilet, a visitor enabled shower, socials with the Sim they followed, or perhaps a family member if they've previously met. If possible, I would also like anybody from child up to say goodbye. I've attempted to enforce manners using Inge's doors (do not permit visitors) but I would like to have their host able to invite them to join anything in another room without having to raise walls and change door settings. I can't be the only person who would appreciate such a thing can I? Is this even possible? If not, at least I ranted, thanks for bearing with me. Returning to my obnoxious guest filled Sim home and gritting my teeth so as not to kill anyone for their audacity, Title: Re: Who the hell do you think you are? Post by: RabidAngel on 2005 November 10, 00:02:05 LOL!
I have to agree with you here....sim guests are so rude! They always make a B-Line for the electronics or tvs and they'll completely ignore you if you have anything fun that they can get to. I try to avoid buying electronic games and musical instruments for that exact matter...Kind of sad, really, because the instruments are fun normally. Title: Re: Who the hell do you think you are? Post by: MissDoh on 2005 November 10, 00:50:43 I don't know if something like that would be possible unless there is a way to assign the "outing" or "dates" behavior feature in Nightlife to all the Sims that are not controllable wherever they are. The problem is that it would need to take effect only in Sim houses not on community lot, you don't want every townie to do the exact same thing you do on those lots, well that would freak me out lol. And it would have to exclude when a Sim goes to the bathroom of course.
Well you did your request, let's see if this is possible now... Title: Re: Who the hell do you think you are? And it would have to exclude when a Sim goes to the bathroom of course. I for one would love to see a hack that would sto the annoying behavior from guests especially when it comes to them messing witth my babies and toddlers and eating food meant for my resident sims. I had a baby in one of my houses with a soiled diaper the sim parent went to change the Bay and couldnt because the guest wouldnt put the baby in its crib and move. meanwhile flies started buzzing around the baby. I finally had the sim who was dumb enough to bring this guest home say goodbye so my sim parent could care for the baby.I also found another way to circumvent the guests from getting to the cribs. in my house with 19 residents living in it three of the residents are Babies and toddlers so I have 2 adult sims that live there having a pillow fight in front of the cribs. I also would love a hack for nightlife that sims can cook for more than six residents.the way it is now to feed 16 children and adults at the same time I have to have 3 stoves and three refrigerators so enough food can be prepared for the entire family.Well you did your request, let's see if this is possible now... Title: Re: Who the hell do you think you are? Post by: radiophonic on 2005 November 10, 01:08:06 I typically keep all of the good stuff locked behind closed doors using Ige's doors at http://www.simlogical.com/index.htm (http://www.simlogical.com/index.htm).
It is possible to lock the back door, basement (if you have one), game room, etc. and keep nosey guests out. DJS http://www.djssims.com/ (http://www.djssims.com/) also has some nice 'no autonomy' instruments (among other things) that help keep visitors from helping themselves so much. Title: Re: Who the hell do you think you are? Post by: aussieone on 2005 November 10, 01:12:38 I get a cranky when visitors do their own thing with instruments and such, but the one thing that does really annoy the hell out of me is when a meal is served and even if clicking on the 'call to meal' - household only, the visitors end up hogging the food and the one of the hungry householders has to go and serve yet another meal!!
If their was a fix for this, then I would be on the way to being a little more tolerant of visitors!! >:( Title: Re: Who the hell do you think you are? Post by: idtaminger on 2005 November 10, 01:14:54 I had a baby in one of my houses with a soiled diaper the sim parent went to change the Bay and couldnt because the guest wouldnt put the baby in its crib and move. meanwhile flies started buzzing around the baby. I finally had the sim who was dumb enough to bring this guest home say goodbye so my sim parent could care for the baby. I find that the "shoo" option works very well in terms of getting uncontrollable sims to stop doing most things. And also, if they're holding a baby, if you interact w/ the uncontrollable sim instead of queueing up an action w/ the baby, they'll drop the baby to interact w/ you, whereupon you can cancel the interaction and focus on the baby. But yes, a more intelligent hack for this would be awesome. Title: Re: Who the hell do you think you are? Post by: Motoki on 2005 November 10, 01:18:55 I think alot of the reasons behind this behavior is hardcoded with the whole advertising business where each of the items is fighting for the sims attention and lying to them making them think all their needs will be fullfilled if they use it. :P
There are hacks that make certain ones less desirable (myshuno, pinball etc) but then they just go to something else. Title: Re: Who the hell do you think you are? Title: Re: Who the hell do you think you are? Post by: Brynne on 2005 November 10, 01:30:35 Wow, you've hit a nerve, here!
I've had to resort to making all my guests selectable. I don't want to do this, but I want my sims to have a pool table in their house, and that's exactly what the guests go for, first. I've had to build fences with lockable gates around a stage I set up outside just so my sims could have their little band. I have the no buskers hack, but I use all custom instruments that aren't affected by that. I have Inge's apartment system set up for extra security. And, yes, the food thing is the icing on the cake. There should be an "invite to join" option for meals, or something. I hate having to have all these mazes and locks and invisible fences and security systems just to keep the guests in line. I would LOVE for my guests to learn some manners. Title: Re: Who the hell do you think you are? Post by: baratron on 2005 November 10, 01:47:47 Merola's Mind Control Mirror is good for this. You can make the visiting sim selectable for just long enough to see their motives and get them away from an annoying object, and then they carry on as normal autonomous visitors.
Title: Re: Who the hell do you think you are? Post by: Brynne on 2005 November 10, 01:54:31 ...and then go right back to the pool table, the little sneaks. :D
Title: Re: Who the hell do you think you are? Post by: MissDoh on 2005 November 10, 02:03:32 Lol, seing all your posts make me wonder about one thing though... why do you keep those visitors on the lots if you find them all so annoying? You could just say goodbye to them the minute they are brought back from work or school. Well that is what I do when I planned other things to do for my Sims.
I sure hope you are not referring to the one's you invited on purpose to your house since what do you expect they do, sit on the couch and look at the walls for 4 hours so your other Sims would have time to do their stuff :P However, I do agree that they tend to use the most playful items all the time and one thing that drives me nuts is when I am working with a new family which don't have a lot of fun items, they sit in front of the tv and turn it on and off every 2 seconds! That does drive me nuts! Also seing them play the guitar for 6 hours straight when I invited them over is a bit too much for me, I just want to break the damn guitar on their heads ;D . But guests wants to have some fun and I don't mind they get it by themselves if they don't exagerate. I find it normal if I invite a Sim at home that it will join the family to eat, if I don't want them to eat with the rest of the family I simply say goodbye to them before the meal is serve. I can always call them back later and invite them over or simply talk to them if I want to make friend with them. Title: Re: Who the hell do you think you are? Post by: Wolfee on 2005 November 10, 02:07:10 It's so annoying when you place one of your Sims way up on the third floor to play one of the computers in one of the bedrooms to have a damn visitor immediately upon arrival make their way up there and complain to me that they can't play that computer because your Sim is playing it. I mean come on, they just bypassed at least 3 other unoccupied computers (and probably more expensive ones) on their way up there, but nooooo, they want to play that with that one. Ugh!
I have the same problems with the bathrooms too, I get so angry at them that I use the cheat "move objects on" and delete them. I found that technique pretty much solves all my visitor problems for me ;D Title: Re: Who the hell do you think you are? Post by: Ancient Sim on 2005 November 10, 02:09:05 I also would love a hack for nightlife that sims can cook for more than six residents.the way it is now to feed 16 children and adults at the same time I have to have 3 stoves and three refrigerators so enough food can be prepared for the entire family. I use the smartserver mod from Dizzy2. It cooks as many meals as there are hungry Sims (discounting the non-hungry ones). It also cooks for visitors, so there is enough to go round. It 16 meals are needed, 16 will be cooked. If 3 are needed, 3 will be cooked. Wouldn't be without it now. Even children can cook meals for the entire household, although they can't serve them so will just leave them for everyone to help themselves. Sims won't autonomously cook only for themselves, they will always cook for everyone, but you can instruct them manually to just cook the one meal if you want to. Post by: ZephyrZodiac on 2005 November 10, 02:13:01 What annoys the hell out of me is when they spend an hour watching TV, then when their host is busy cooking a meal they suddenly decide that now is the moment to play kicky bag with them!
Unless I want the guests, I'm afraid I zap them the minute they act anti-socially! And I have the hack which means that kids and teens have to ask permission to bring a friend home after school! Post by: Process Denied on 2005 November 10, 03:16:04 What I do with guests is I macro socialize them till I'm done with them and then I have them go home. I also give them a motive boost cause they usually arrive pretty low on their motives. But I believe meal time is for the family only maybe a boy or girl friend now and again. But guests are gone by mealtime. The socializer is great cause you don't have to babysit them just check in once in a while.

Put the shower in a separate but adjoining room, perhaps?
Title: Re: Who the hell do you think you are? Post by: Motoki on 2005 November 10, 04:28:39 If the shower is more than 3 tiles from the toilet paper and you set the radius to 3 or if you put the shower in a different room and set it to seek in the room only then it should ignore the shower yes. I believe it will normally not make guests shower anyway though.
In general, I find it good practice to put the shower and toilet in a separate room anyhow. In some countries they do this and from a game perspective it just makes more sense so that someone taking a shower or bubble bath for a while doesn't prevent someone else from using the toilet or force them to have to go to another floor to use one. Title: Re: Who the hell do you think you are? Post by: JadeEliott on 2005 November 10, 04:34:38 Thanks for that info, Motoki. That one feature was driving me nuts. Title: Re: Who the hell do you think you are? Post by: Zeljka on 2005 November 10, 05:24:11 I'm not talking about invited guests, but the stalkers following people home from school or work. It's great to make a new friend, but in the 3 minutes it takes the kid to put homework in the bedroom, their annoying friend can do numerous unacceptable things.
Merola's mirror is indispensible, as are Inge's doors, I also use Dizzy's smart serve, but am certainly not cooking when none of my Sims are hungry. 3 kids each bring a friend from school, then dad brings home a co-worker... all these guests would be fine, but I want them to act like guests. The kids, meh, talk, play, joke 2 or 3 times then say goodbye, actually, adults are the same but if someone has to pee first, I would prefer not pausing to send guests to run laps around the yard until their host is ready to be social. I've created foyers with sofas and locked all doors to visitors, but then I have to fence in the pool and hottub and fence it in so you can only access it from inside the home. Then I have to unlock them if I want them there. It's a nuisance, particularly considering most of my homes have at least 8 residents, most being of an age to bring home guests. This would also prevent the Marsha Bruenig syndrome. Yes, my Romance sim does want to meet someone new, but not the little girl his kid brought home, my Sims already know too many people and I don't want everyone from baby to elder on a first name basis with every stray following someone home. I hate when little Zaira is heading to the phone to call a potential friend and that very friend calls to chat with her grandpa. I've wondered if Inge could create a no-visitor autonomy door so visitors could not enter unless called over or asked to join, but I know nothing about game code, so I thought a general post would be a better way to go. Brynne - what are your computer specs? Do you have a lot of custom content on that lot? I've been building my apartment buildings but haven't put any families in them yet - they've been the "swinging singles" pads but I would love to have a big city tennement with several families living in them. You just use Inge's teleporter and say "add to family"? Does that make them all related or is it like "combining households" where they live together but aren't related? Title: Re: Who the hell do you think you are? Post by: Brynne on 2005 November 10, 20:07:13 It's like combining households. Their are no familial ties added.
The teleporter shrub is very easy...you just teleport in the sim you want to add, and then "move in..." and click his/her name. Voila! Instant roomie. Be aware, though, that JM has warned me my game may do the fiery ball thing, but so far, no problems. And I've played this neighborhood for over a year. But, still, you've been warned. ;) I have a ton of custom content! I'm a download addict. And my computer specs are modest. I play on my laptop. Of course, I bought the laptop for the purpose of playing the Sims 2 (that's just wrong, lol!), so it does exceed minimum specs. 2GHz Pentium M with an Ati Radeon Mobility 9700 with 128 mb dedicated. I need more RAM, though. Only have 512 mb. I've had no problems with lag, but loading is slooooooow. I need to upgrade my harddrive. I really need to upgrade my hard drive. That's what I have and it's twice the size of my working disk. ultimately I will have 2 hard drives but the way my PC is formatted it is easier to use my current drive as the recovery drive when the new drive is installed it will be a 120.GB where my current drive is only 40Title: Re: Who the hell do you think you are? Post by: ZephyrZodiac on 2005 November 11, 15:42:37 Oh, well, I have 40 and 80, can't afford more nowadays, but I have a second PC which has another 40. (But I find the larger disk being the storage one works better for me! Although, you can always compress everything on that drive.)
Title: Re: Who the hell do you think you are? Post by: Zeljka on 2005 November 11, 19:01:10 You need to install TJ's schoolbus - bring friend dialogue hack - before the kid gets off the bus you get the message pop-up asking if they can bring the friend home. You get to say no if you want! And you can say goodbye to Marsha Bruenig forever if you use the new version of SimPE to delete her. And with the NPC and visitor Zapper, you can get rid of friends from work safely before they put there hooks into the best sofa and ruin it! You're absolutely right, I do need to download the dialogue mod, but I wasn't sure if it was compatible with just the original, and as I'm trying to clean out my game before installing them, just thought I'd wait. Marsha doesn't bother me, I grew her up ages ago to teen, gave her a family aspiration and the poor little thing is wandering around to be used by romance sims, never truly filling her wants. I did briefly move her in to a home long enough to allow her to produce a child, (grandma was a family sim, but her kids were mostly romance) but returned her to townie status immediately after the birth. I occasionally check her wants, and she still wants a relationship with her child, but the kid couldn't care less about her. Also, it's not that I don't ever want company in my homes, I just want the company to behave like, er, company. ooh, does the new EP actually delete Sims properly? Title: Re: Who the hell do you think you are? Post by: ZephyrZodiac on 2005 November 12, 00:21:47 No, SimPE does.
Title: Re: Who the hell do you think you are? Post by: witch on 2005 November 12, 00:43:11 Does it? I thought I read on another thread - the simpe version 2nd to last - the beta - had delete sims but it mucked up other sim DNA. The latest version of simpe - alpha 0.50 does not include sim deletion?
Title: Re: Who the hell do you think you are? Post by: Zeljka on 2005 November 12, 23:47:29 oops, that's what I meant, new PE, not EP, I love fall/winter, but my pleasantly cold room tends to wreak havoc on my typing.

I thought I read on another thread - the simpe version 2nd to last - the beta - had delete sims but it mucked up other sim DNA. The latest version of simpe - alpha 0.50 does not include sim deletion? I'm really anxious for comprehensive Sim deletion....unless I'm mistaken, I don't think it's quite ready for Prime Time yet. I'm running the latest release to the masses, 0.50, and there isn't Sim deletion. :( I understand that a version with deletion was released to testing, but I read in other threads there were problems. Cannot wait to clean out some driftwood surgically. I hate killing Sims off. (Never used a cowplant.) Title: Re: Who the hell do you think you are? Post by: Motoki on 2005 November 13, 13:20:20 No, SimPE does. No it doesn't. So if you have that version you'd better stop using it because it's been known to cause problems and from the sound of it lol, sounds like you have enough problems in your game already. ;) Title: Re: Who the hell do you think you are? Post by: Motoki on 2005 November 13, 13:48:08 I have the Simenhancer also. I haven't tried deleting a sim yet, but if you do does it delete every single trace of them? Like if it's an existing sim who has met other sims, will their memories of having met that sim be gone or will they now say "Met Unknown"? There's a lot of other files to delete when you delete a sim, particularly if they've met and interacted with other sims in the neighborhood already.

Post by: witch on 2005 November 14, 00:10:43 What about the sim DNA issue? I think Ancient Sim narrowed her issue down to using simpe to delete sims. Have you checked your sims to see if their DNA still has both dominant and recessive skintones? I'm interested to see if that error was a quirk of simpe programming, or if it is something that is mixed up in the game somehow.

I use Sims2 enhancer and that ompletely deletes all of the information The deleted Sim Hadit doesnt send it into limbo land somewhere amongst all the other Sim files. all of my inGame Sims have correct DNA listed in Both Sim PE and Sim Enhancer.. For example I have Identical twin Boys that were CAS created the Mother Has Black Hair and Opaline Eye Color and Hairy Naturals skintone. The Father Has Dark Blue Eyes and Brown Hair by Janna. and Hairy naturals skintone. the Boys Dominant Genetics are listed as Black Hair by Lola which matches Mom and recessive is listed as Brown Hair by Janna . The dominant eye color for the boys is opaline and their eye color is listed as opaline. the recessive is listed as dark blue eyes which matches the father's DNA. Skin color is Hairy Naturals as both Parents have the same skin toneTitle: Re: Who the hell do you think you are? Post by: witch on 2005 November 14, 04:48:10 Thanks bangelnuts. Damn I would like to have the ability to delete a sim but still refuse to pay for SimEnhancer. :( At least there's a way to do it where it's not mucking up your game.

Post by: witch on 2005 November 14, 10:12:44 Good point, but unfortunately I used my free trial about a month ago when I was checking sim DNA after Ancient Sim's alert about DNA problems.
