Title: How do I know what society groups do the NPCs belong to Post by: SiuPang on 2008 November 27, 11:18:49 AL added something like new society groups.... But how can I tell who belong to what ???
Title: Re: How do I know what society groups do the NPCs belong to Post by: J. M. Pescado on 2008 November 27, 11:50:45 All the new social groups have uniforms. There are several different ones, but they are all of a similar theme.
Title: Re: How do I know what society groups do the NPCs belong to Post by: Gwill on 2008 November 27, 18:18:35 You can check in SimPE.
Title: Re: How do I know what society groups do the NPCs belong to Post by: SiuPang on 2008 November 27, 18:59:08 You can check in SimPE. I hate this method... So cumbersome :-[. Anyway, thx! Title: Re: How do I know what society groups do the NPCs belong to Post by: Orange Indigo on 2008 November 27, 20:08:57 You wait until they anonymously decide to do one of those "Greet..." socials.
That's the only way to figure it out in game, other than some trial and error with "Greet..." socials to find out which the NPC prefers. Their clothing can be an indicator, but it'll probably take some observing to figure out which clothing styles fit with which social. To be honest, there doesn't seem to be much of a gain if you focus on sims you think are in one social group versus socializing with all sims in all groups. You still get approximately the same amount of "bonuses" or whathaveyou. Or, of course, you could use SimPe. :o Title: Re: How do I know what society groups do the NPCs belong to Post by: Marhis on 2008 November 27, 20:25:36 Or you may use Paladin's visual teleporter (http://208.109.175.73/sims-2-visual-teleporter.htm), without actually teleporting anyone: choose one of the groups and have a look at their portraits.
Title: Re: How do I know what society groups do the NPCs belong to Post by: tunaisafish on 2008 November 27, 22:45:59 Or use SimSheet. (See peasantry)
Import your hood into SimSheet before starting the game. and then save it in SimSheet format. It's lighter to run than SimPE, and you can also run it at the same time as running the game without the file-locking troubles. Title: Re: How do I know what society groups do the NPCs belong to Post by: Heli on 2008 November 27, 22:52:05 I prefer to use Inges Teleporter Cat for this.
Title: Re: How do I know what society groups do the NPCs belong to Post by: Joshre on 2008 November 27, 23:07:09 I never liked the groups and gave them all make overs so they weren't
Just use SimPE or a teleporter. Title: Re: How do I know what society groups do the NPCs belong to Post by: Callista on 2008 November 27, 23:50:36 People keep saying "use simPE" and I keep thinking, "Yeah, literally five hours to make a simple change in one sim--not my idea of a good time"... have some pity on the people with crap computers, please!

She wasn't asking to make changes...Besides, it is the "best" way, and probably the most reliable way to find it out. Otherwise, you could be like me and just not care. I can't even really find an advantage to socializing with only one society group, but that might just be because it's so cumbersome to single out individuals based on their alliance to a group. Title: Re: How do I know what society groups do the NPCs belong to Post by: IgnorantBliss on 2008 November 28, 14:49:13 Hmmm, how do you check it in SimPE? I can't find anything about social groups there.
Title: Re: How do I know what society groups do the NPCs belong to Post by: Heli on 2008 November 28, 15:53:48 Check Familys in Simpe, they are grouped by family.
With teleporter cat from Inge only click and LOOK, you dont must change. Edit: yes, Family ID ( Sort by Instanz) Title: Re: How do I know what society groups do the NPCs belong to Post by: Orange Indigo on 2008 November 28, 16:33:36 I'm assuming you mean what comes up under "Household" in the SimBrowser, Heli. In that case, it just tells you which sims are in the same Household. It doesn't say anything about which specific social group they're in. Is this all I'm going to find or did I misinterpret?
Title: Re: How do I know what society groups do the NPCs belong to Post by: tunaisafish on 2008 November 28, 17:09:37 There's a list of 'special' family ID's in the Trogdor forum.
Inge's cat uses those labels I think. SimSheet does. Marhis posted a better list in that thread in the peasantry. In SimPE you would have to look them up yourself. Not sure what you mean by 'SimBrowser'? Title: Re: How do I know what society groups do the NPCs belong to Post by: Orange Indigo on 2008 November 28, 17:55:50 Huh. My bad, I was completely misinterpreting the word "Family". Apparently, it didn't occur to me that "Family" meant just that.
I've got it now. I was expecting to find a family name, not those instance numbers for the families. I still think it's too much effort to figure it out, but I'm glad I actually know how to do so now. Title: Re: How do I know what society groups do the NPCs belong to Post by: Marhis on 2008 November 28, 22:24:57 NPCs' (Service and not) families are usually created in new neighborhood with the last name of the first sim spawned in that family, or blank last name.
I usually rename all of them in SimPE, according to their family ID, so I don't have to re-read my notes every time. Just don't let one of your NPC families going empty, or it will be renamed again with the last name of the next sim which will be spawn by the game, and you'll have to re-edit. Code: Family IDs ending in... ...belong to Title: Re: How do I know what society groups do the NPCs belong to Post by: Orange Indigo on 2008 November 29, 02:29:37 Wouldn't it be easier just to rename them Socialites, Techies, Jocks, Bohemians, and Gearheads?
Well, easier for the casual game-player who isn't really planning to do much with SimPe besides spy on genetics, relations, and the like. EDIT: It seems like many of the sims don't look remotely like they belong within their social groups. How frustrating. Title: Re: How do I know what society groups do the NPCs belong to Post by: Marhis on 2008 November 29, 03:05:40 Wouldn't it be easier just to rename them Socialites, Techies, Jocks, Bohemians, and Gearheads? Er... yes, I meant I indeed renamed them that way; no Goopy 0x7FDF since now :D Title: Re: How do I know what society groups do the NPCs belong to Post by: SiuPang on 2008 November 30, 18:23:14 Suddenly I have come up an idea. I am not sure if I should open a new thread, but anyway I just post it here.
It has been so disturbing that local people in Far East looks too Western... I want to make them more Eastern by having blacker hair, slightly darker or a bit yellower skin and smaller eyes so that those people in Kimono can look more Japanese. Just wondering how much time it gonna take me if I am to edit those locals one by one. :-\ Title: Re: How do I know what society groups do the NPCs belong to Post by: jolrei on 2008 December 01, 17:20:41 Suddenly I have come up an idea. Er... yes, I meant I indeed renamed them that way; no Goopy 0x7FDF since now :D I just renamed the Household in SimPe, which made it easier for me to jot down which sims were in which social group. If I changed the actual last name, that might make it awkward when I had a female sim change her last name to that of her Townie husband. Title: Re: How do I know what society groups do the NPCs belong to Post by: Marhis on 2008 December 01, 21:20:07 Oh. Ups, sorry again, I must be exceptionally idiot in these days (I mean, more than usual) :D. You're right, I changed their household name, not the last name. Title: Re: How do I know what society groups do the NPCs belong to Post by: Insanity Prelude on 2008 December 02, 05:13:42 Tried to answer my own question; checking SimPE revealed that they don't have the "learned [vacation action]" memories if you use Inge's teleporter alone.

I learned that the hard way too. You need the townie gun fix from the peasantry, and you need to use the actual gun, which is hell since you have to browse through every name in the neighbourhood to find the sim you want to move. You might be able to just move one sim with the gun, then copy the tokens to all the others in SimPE, but I don't recommend trying to create the tokens manually (that's what I did), even if you apparently make tokens that are identical to tokens from a test-hood, they still end up borked, and you get errors at the dances (can't remember about greetings). |
