Title: Is it possible to make a hack to get rid of asterisks? Post by: kazebird on 2008 November 08, 14:38:50 I hate the CC asterisks! It's like the game is telling me "This doesn't belong in the game," and I hate it! My point is that the game should not show something is custom, like in the Sims 1. What kind of idiot needs a reminder that the object is a download? Can it be done?
Title: Re: Is it possible to make a hack to get rid of asterisks? Post by: J. M. Pescado on 2008 November 08, 14:50:52 Probably. Somewhere in the gamefiles, there's a picture of the CC asterix, and all you have to do is nullalpha it.
Title: Re: Is it possible to make a hack to get rid of asterisks? Post by: kazebird on 2008 November 08, 15:55:48 Woah! While searching through the basegame files, I found all the in game cursors! The thing is there are several versions for each cursor. Many of which appear to match with the UI in earlier versions of the game during creation! If you go to:
http://www.snootysims.com/extrasindex.php?id=oldpics and look in: Program Files/EA GAMES/The Sims 2/TSData/Res/UI/Cursors You can see similarities between the cursors and old game pics! This is a major discovery because, if the other UI files are in there, we could make an override to use those files instead of the current UI! Can someone use SimPE to see if the old files are in the UI package? If you will excuse me I will continue spelunking through The Sims 2's caves. Edit: Even the EP's after pets have the sledgehammer tool under multiple UI's. I wonder why? Title: Re: Is it possible to make a hack to get rid of asterisks? Post by: Zazazu on 2008 November 08, 18:44:55 Can someone use SimPE to see if the old files are in the UI package? You can, yes. Also, somewhere in Peasantry someone ripped all the icons up to, I think, Pets. I use them a lot in sign creation. See the sign for LANES:(http://pics.livejournal.com/zazazuabubu/pic/0009d0cq) I've also replaced an image file there so that zombies wouldn't think of brains but grilled cheese. Works the same way as a standard object recolor. Open package file. Find image. Extract. Open extracted texture in your graphics program, edit, and import into SimPE. Update all sizes, commit & save. Title: Re: Is it possible to make a hack to get rid of asterisks? Post by: Zazazu on 2008 November 08, 20:56:20 Great. I'll get the rest of those icons. I was making something or other recently and didn't have the icon plus didn't feel like searching through SimPE.
Title: Re: Is it possible to make a hack to get rid of asterisks? Post by: kazebird on 2008 November 09, 02:49:55 This is interesting. Now that the game is complete, seeing as you would have to be 10x stupider than Rod Humble to make another, we can now freely edit the game to our liking. I personally want someone to unlock all those hidden items in the game files.
I wonder if we could bring back the original scenario made for the base game before they cut out weather. The scenario was a blackout, and if you could get through it with all motives at 90, you got a windmill that prevents power outages. Title: Re: Is it possible to make a hack to get rid of asterisks? Post by: Simsample on 2008 November 09, 15:30:14 Someone tried that already:
http://linna.modthesims2.com/download.php?t=184494 I'm sure I had one made by someone else (Carrigon, maybe) in the early days, too. Title: Re: Is it possible to make a hack to get rid of asterisks? Post by: Lord Darcy on 2008 November 10, 13:56:21 I would very much like to be able to put OBJD overrides in Downloads folder without activating the delete button and CC asterisk. It's a pain in the posterior to put OBJD overrides under Program Files folder.
Title: Re: Is it possible to make a hack to get rid of asterisks? Post by: arogers on 2008 November 10, 19:55:54 i just shove all my objects in the C:\ ,Program Files ,EA Games ,the sims 2 ,Tsdata ,res ,catalogue ,bins folder and they are treated like official content. works everytime! ;)
Title: Re: Is it possible to make a hack to get rid of asterisks? Post by: sewinglady on 2008 November 10, 23:35:39 yup, what previous poster said. When I first started downloading custom content, that's where I put it - no asterisks.
I don't know if it would eventually cause a meltdown in game, though. Title: Re: Is it possible to make a hack to get rid of asterisks? Post by: photo on 2008 November 11, 16:25:22 I've heard from a few people that its bad for your game to get rid of the astericks or to just put them in that file... Big fireball in space and all. Not sure where I saw it, gimmie a minute and I'll look.
Title: Re: Is it possible to make a hack to get rid of asterisks? Post by: sewinglady on 2008 November 11, 20:51:15 I can't remember the reason either, but I was advised to remove my custom content from that folder and create a downloads folder, so I did.
The asterisks really don't bother me in the least, but I can understand if they bother others - kinda like what bothers me doesn't bother others. We all have our foibles. Title: Re: Is it possible to make a hack to get rid of asterisks? Post by: FourCats on 2008 November 12, 00:51:57 I kind of like having asterisks as it helps me to know what came with the game and what didn't. That was always something that I was looking for in The sims 1
Title: Re: Is it possible to make a hack to get rid of asterisks? Post by: WORF on 2008 November 12, 03:17:45 I thought someone tried the asterisk thing a long time ago.

I don't care about removing the asterisk, thought it is easy to tell which things are default and what's not, but who want their game broken by on outdated hack?
Title: Re: Is it possible to make a hack to get rid of asterisks? Post by: Lord Darcy on 2008 November 12, 16:23:24 My bins folder is choke-full of EAxis-made objects like preorders, Stories conversions and OBJD overrides too.
I kind of like having asterisks as it helps me to know what came with the game and what didn't. That was always something that I was looking for in The sims 1 Actually I like asterisks in real CC for the same reason. In TS1 I missed this feature too. It's just that I made several mods which contain OBJD overrides for official objects. I'd rather have them in Downloads folder for convenience. Seems like there is no way to disable it selectively. Title: Re: Is it possible to make a hack to get rid of asterisks? Post by: chazzhay on 2008 November 12, 21:02:34 Quote Someone tried that already: After placing said hack in my test game it had the desired effect but also an undesired one:http://linna.modthesims2.com/download.php?t=184494 I'm sure I had one made by someone else (Carrigon, maybe) in the early days, too. (http://i79.photobucket.com/albums/j137/chazzhay/Noasterisk.png) So if you don't like ep icons as well this hacks for you. Title: Re: Is it possible to make a hack to get rid of asterisks? Post by: kazebird on 2008 November 13, 00:04:54 Tough trade...
There is something about those icons that helps me locate clothing. Title: Re: Is it possible to make a hack to get rid of asterisks? Post by: SaraMK on 2008 November 13, 05:01:49 Dude, what are those fucked up blobs at the top?
Because... like, I don't think I have those in my game. Wow. Title: Re: Is it possible to make a hack to get rid of asterisks? Post by: J. M. Pescado on 2008 November 13, 07:13:26 Dude, what are those fucked up blobs at the top? Those are some kind of weird cloudball character you can download somewhere on MTS2, similar to the Squid in Awesomeland.Title: Re: Is it possible to make a hack to get rid of asterisks? Post by: HomeschooledByTards on 2008 November 13, 13:14:33 They look like the Boo's from Mario games.
Title: Re: Is it possible to make a hack to get rid of asterisks? Post by: chazzhay on 2008 November 13, 16:04:33 Yes they're boos from the Mario series. I really need to get rid of them. ::) I just used them as an example of CC.
