Title: CLEAN GAME throwing errors on loading apartments
Post by: Gwill on 2008 October 24, 20:29:12
Does anyone have any idea why my game is suddenly throwing these errors while loading apartments?
It causes weirdness which I can't be bothered to describe right now.

I've had nothing but trouble with apartments.  Lags, errors, weirdness...  Frankly, I'm fucking sick of it.

As it's a clean game, I'd suspect a faulty install.
I'd try replacing the ObjectScripts.package file first.
Have you installed patch(es)?

your not the only one Gwill. I just got this error in my game today too when I lite the fire place in my Sims game with AL and it popped up.

Have you tried just hitting "Reset" or "Delete", and seeing it if recurs if you save/reload? Are you using EAxis families? EAxis families and apartments are heavily FUBAR.

It was working fine until a few days ago.  If anything, the lot is corrupt.
First patch has been installed since the no-CD crack was released.

Hitting reset causes all neigbours to start treating the apartment as a part of the common area.  They roam around, watch my TV, raid my fridge and play my games.  The apartment still acts as an apartment in buy mode; I can sell and buy furniture.
Hitting delete turns the apartment into a part of the common area in every possible way, as far as I can see.  I can no longer do anything with the furniture in buy mode.
It's an apartment complex I built myself, in a custom hood, playing custom families.  And this is a recent bug.

Coupled with all the other crap I've had to deal with from apartments, I'm giving it up and moving all sims back on residential lots.

Does it persist if you save/reload after doing so? Nuking the apartment controller tends to have that effect, but it should respawn on load. If you built the apartment, check that there are no construction faults like apartments that bleed into each other.

Reset > Save > Reload Same error, same problem.
Delete > Save > Reload No error, but the apartment is now in its entirety a permanent part of the common area.

For now I'm moving all sims out of apartments and into residential lots.
I've ordered a new hard drive and will be doing a complete re-install of everything from windoze and up.

Mine happened on a residentail zone "105 Sim lane" in pleasentville. Its also a fresh install when AL came out. I think it has to do with the first patch and hope the second one solves it when I get the no-cd.

This problem is popping up in all the other Sim sites. There are more people having the same issues but in different situations. Hope somebody finds out that is causing it soon and post it here. Some say it's linked to ACR and others don't so I am confused what it could be.

If it's happening in a clean game, I hardly see how it can be ACR. Kids like to jump on blaming hacks. This dumb kid over at PMBD has been going on about how a hack from MTS2 gave him a trojan.

No, there really was an MTS2 trojan. It wasn't specifically part of the hack, but it WAS triggered by going to MTS2. Apparently, MTS2 wuz h4x3d.

I have the same error when I use the all too popular boolprop cheat. On saturdays if boolprop is on the Landlords party will set off errors.  I don't care about the parties, so I hit delete and the landlord leaves. Not a major problem.

It's an apartment block I made. For sims that were all born in the game from sims I created.

On the weird side though, even after turning off boolprop since apartments. You can still slide motives around.

Whatever is the thing that triggered your error, it's not because of debug mode ("boolprop cheat") active: debug mode only informs you that an error exists and tells you also what it is. So, your error still exists, only, you are not aware of what is happening behind.

Boolprop, in any case, is not a cheat.

The OP, indeed, asked about what problem could have triggered the error, not about the annoyance of the error window.

So was InSim and Retail Sims.  Bloodhound Trojan.  My husband had the same thing happen at a non-Sims site.  Apparently it's an epidemic.

Huh. I think that's the one my parents just got. They took the computer in for service since I'm not going to be there anytime soon. For the amount they paid for service, they probably could have gotten a new rig (theirs is getting really outdated). And I was yelling at my dad for going to disreputable porn sites.

How did you get an apartment controller error on a residential lot?

I've been getting the same error without patch 1.

I did find a fix:  Move the family out of the apartment, then move them back in. In between I edited the apartment, moving one item inside the apartment then saved the lot.  When I moved the family back in, everything was just fine.

I have no idea Hook ??? but it did and I can't explain why it accrued on that residential lot if its an apartment problem. I created a family and moved them in and once I light a fire in the fire place it popped up as an object error. I tried again to see if it was a fluke and it happened again. I am in the process of removing my old hacks I had kicking around in my download file and will try again to see if it fixes the problem. I will also try your advice to see if that works too. Its just one of those EAxis mysteries I just don't get.

FYI:  if a folder named "Common" opens on startup showing two files helper.sig and _helper.sig that's the one I got first from MTS2 and then from Retail Sims.  I know at the time I got infected it tried to open Adobe Reader, but I got an "this is not a .pdf" file message and an alert about the Bloodhound thing.

There is one at 2forU Sims too then. I saw it yesterday but shut down my interwebs without clicking anything. Nothing downloaded but it tried to open up my Adobe.

Check for the Helper files anyway.  My virus checker said "access denied" or something when it popped up, but it had downloaded the helper.dll, etc. anyway.

I suspect it was the reason I kept getting random popups and popunders constantly, even on sites like MATY that don't do advertising.....

Crap, I might have had this happen to me. I don't remember, but it seems familiar. I didn't get any warning. Perhaps AVG has failed me? How do I save the internets? D: D: D:

Fake Edit: Dammit I just checked my AVG and it says that for some bloody cryptic reason the databases are outdated and felt no need to auto-update. HALP.

DL updates for AVG from here (http://www.majorgeeks.com/AVG_Anti-Virus_Update_d4478.html).  Run it.  Then I suggest booting into safe mode.. and then running AVG plus any other anti-virus/anti-malware programs you have.
