Title: Pie Menu Text Strings Fix (Updated 2009/05/02) Post by: Lord Darcy on 2008 October 14, 11:02:00 (http://i239.photobucket.com/albums/ff243/creamgray/The%20Sims%202/LD_PieMenuTextStringsFix.jpg) This mod fixes broken pie menus plagued with redundant functions, grammar mistakes and missing translations, especially in non-English languages. Redundant pie menus are caused by carelessness on translators' part, like spelling errors, nonidentical translations or use of the ellipsis character instead of three dots. Cluttered pie menus are often frustrating, as you have to go through extra levels whenever you want to select other items, like meals or radio channels. So far German looks like the worst offender, redundant pie menus everywhere. Especially foods like Chef Salad, text strings for lunch and dinner all mixed up since base game. Although this mod fixes mostly non-English languages, it also contains Art Nouveau Bookcase fix (http://www.moreawesomethanyou.com/smf/index.php/topic,12439.0.html), which affects all languages including English. If you want other languages fixed, let me know the affected objects and your language. I'll include them in the next version. Note: To fix cluttered Sim menu (like new AL kiss or Vamprocillin-D on Gypsy), I had to make overrides for PersonGlobals text strings. Chances are that it may conflict with other hacks (notably InTeen) which also alter these resources. Pick only one version, depending on your latest EP.
Below is the list of fixes which were rolled into this mod. Remove them all to avoid conflict.
List of objects fixed by this mod:

Title: Re: Pie Menu Text Strings Fix Post by: Havelock on 2008 October 14, 15:32:08 Wow :o It looks like that German translators are really stupid morons. He is for sure stupid. It looks sometimes they got an Student who translates with Google. We have broken Jobtitles forever, they got never fixed. A General is a General even in german, but he translated this into "Allgemein" like in general Hospital. And there are other stupid translations like female jobtitles for males. In AL he translated Gyro into Hamburger. If he got the fear german Players would not know what Gyros are there was the possibility to translate into Kebab which is known well here. Title: Re: Pie Menu Text Strings Fix Post by: Pandaah on 2008 October 14, 18:05:57 Well I know about this, I play the game in German too, but I never thought that there were so many incredible wrong mistakes only in the German game. I thought it was meant to be this way.... The only real annoyance are the college marks that they break with OfB (I know there is a fix for that on MTS2, but it is still annoying)
Something I noticed too is when a dog (cat?) looks at himself in a mirror the little icon on the upper left will show the English text. Title: Re: Pie Menu Text Strings Fix Post by: Havelock on 2008 October 14, 18:47:15 Lord Darcy the Switch to.../Jam Band/New Age [German] has included Custom Radiostation also its now alone in a separate switch to... menue.
Is it possible to put it also in the main Radiostation menue ? I thought it was meant to be this way.... Well i have never seen it as meant to be this way. Remember the potty wich had the empty string translated into leer (meaning there is nothing in it). Or the lying Fisherman Fountain who got translated into a crying Fisherman Fountain (i never found out why he was crying while reading the description, until i looked how he is named in english to post a recolor on MTS2. Something I noticed too is when a dog (cat?) looks at himself in a mirror the little icon on the upper left will show the English text. Yes the Pet reflection string but i dont know if it has a proper text in any language, i think this string is a Placeholder not a icon text. If he got the fear german Players would not know what Gyros are there was the possibility to translate into Kebab which is known well here. I would send an angry letter, really. With all people who use this game to learn foreign languages... My friend told me that in Polish version they translated cat's command "Use toilet" to "Use litter box", I guess they didn't really check what the command did... Danish version seems pretty neat reading of all these things. One unforgivable mistake they made was translating some song titles and bands' names for the songs that play in radio (for instance Kajagoogoo's song is entitled "Genert")... Anyway, I just remembered one thing: (http://img366.imageshack.us/img366/5443/potterymg6.jpg) Well, undoubtly there's "et tesæt" and "en vase", but I would gladly change the strings into "Lav/en vase" and "Lav/et tesæt" for better organization. Same thing at sewing machine. Which file are the pie menu strings saved in? Title: Re: Pie Menu Text Strings Fix Post by: Lord Darcy on 2008 October 15, 11:54:32 In AL he translated Gyro into Hamburger. If he got the fear german Players would not know what Gyros are there was the possibility to translate into Kebab which is known well here. Already fixed in v1.0. (Food Stand SemiGlobal) No duplicate hamburgers, it will show up correctly as Gyro.Lord Darcy the Switch to.../Jam Band/New Age [German] has included Custom Radiostation also its now alone in a separate switch to... menue. I couldn't figure out where the text string of custom station was stored. I ended up using an ellipsis character on all stations, and removed the fix for Jam Band and New Age. At least all stations will show up together. Is it possible to put it also in the main Radiostation menue ? Remember the potty wich had the empty string translated into leer (meaning there is nothing in it). It sure looks like that EAxis did not hire a native German speaker. The German string for "Empty" is "Leeren". Is it an awkward translation? Perhaps "Ausleeren" is better? Or the lying Fisherman Fountain who got translated into a crying Fisherman Fountain "lügende" instead of "weinende" - is it right? My German became awfully rusty. My friend told me that in Polish version they translated cat's command "Use toilet" to "Use litter box", I guess they didn't really check what the command did... "Use Toilet" shows up as "Użyj kuwety" in Polish. Same thing at sewing machine. They are stored in text strings of craftable objects. Which file are the pie menu strings saved in? Are "en/et" feminine and masculine indefinite articles in Danish, like "ein/eine" in German? Looks like "Lav mange..." means "Make Many..." in Danish. Could you provide a suitable translation for "Make One..."? Title: Re: Pie Menu Text Strings Fix Post by: Havelock on 2008 October 15, 13:07:22 In AL he translated Gyro into Hamburger. No need for a fix Lord Darcy it works with leeren. Or the lying Fisherman Fountain who got translated into a crying Fisherman Fountain "lügende" instead of "weinende" - is it right? My German became awfully rusty.Yes you are correct the fountain should be named Der lügende Fischer Brunnen Lord Darcy i have fixes for the Jobtitles and the Newspaper would you like to look if i have the correct textlists and add them ? I have made them because a male Astronaut is not a Astronautin and Medium should be a Medium not a Mittel. Title: Re: Pie Menu Text Strings Fix Post by: bloodredtoe on 2008 October 15, 17:05:16 "Use Toilet" shows up as "Użyj kuwety" in Polish. If your friend can provide a correct Polish translation for "Use Toilet", I can fix it. The proper translation should be "Użyj ubikacji". But note the pet commands not only appear in pie menues, I don't know if it doesn't mean you have to correct it in several places. They are stored in text strings of craftable objects. They're not exactly feminine and masculine (because "en" is used for both female and male nouns) but they are indeed indefinite articles like a/an or ein/eine.Are "en/et" feminine and masculine indefinite articles in Danish, like "ein/eine" in German? Looks like "Lav mange..." means "Make Many..." in Danish. Could you provide a suitable translation for "Make One..."? They also mean "one", so "Lav en/et..." should work here. I'm not sure how it's handled in OfB, because I rarely use these stations. This might regard more translations - eg. Swedish and Norwegian, that have the same articles (spelled differently though). Title: Re: Pie Menu Text Strings Fix Post by: Alex on 2008 October 15, 17:39:34 I think I might have a stab at editing the computer pie menu strings. It's so cluttered, and could be so easily made much more organised than it is now.
Title: Re: Pie Menu Text Strings Fix Post by: Lord Darcy on 2008 October 15, 22:15:25 If i had known it would double your work i would have sayd nothing. Sorry. No, it's my fault that I forgot custom station the first time around. ;) Thanks for reminding me, your input is always welcomed."Use Toilet" shows up as "Użyj kuwety" in Polish. If your friend can provide a correct Polish translation for "Use Toilet", I can fix it. The proper translation should be "Użyj ubikacji".Praise for.../Peeing in Toilet -> Pochwal za.../Załatwienie się w kuwecie Scold for.../Peeing in Toilet -> Zgań za.../Załatwienie się w kuwecie Lord Darcy i have fixes for the Jobtitles and the Newspaper would you like to look if i have the correct textlists and add them ? I have made them because a male Astronaut is not a Astronautin and Medium should be a Medium not a Mittel. But note the pet commands not only appear in pie menues, I don't know if it doesn't mean you have to correct it in several places. I'm thinking about making a separate fix for spelling/translation errors found elsewhere, as pie menu fix carries the risk of incompatibility.I'm not sure how it's handled in OfB, because I rarely use these stations. "Lav en..." and "Lav mange..." in OFB craftables. I'll stick to it in FT craftables for consistency. This might regard more translations - eg. Swedish and Norwegian, that have the same articles (spelled differently though). Indeed, Norwegian is affected as well.Title: Re: Pie Menu Text Strings Fix Post by: bloodredtoe on 2008 October 15, 22:57:29 Does it need to be fixed as well? Praise for.../Peeing in Toilet -> Pochwal za.../Załatwienie się w kuwecie Scold for.../Peeing in Toilet -> Zgań za.../Załatwienie się w kuwecie My friend is not sure what these exactly regard. If scold/praise for using sim toilet, litter box or both. Could somebody clarify it? "Lav en..." and "Lav mange..." in OFB craftables. I'll stick to it in FT craftables for consistency. It is possible that there was no "Lav et" in these stations because the items you could create were all "en". Majority of nouns are "en".It should be "Lav en/et..." for the stations where both articles appear because it's a grammar mistake if you use a wrong article. I'll think of an alternative without slashes. Title: Re: Pie Menu Text Strings Fix Post by: Leo on 2008 October 16, 08:43:06 Thanx, thanx, THANX!!
The messed up pie menues in German always annoyed me to death. But one question: is the fix compatible with the official patch? The magic cauldron was updated so it has the new "Weiter (...) herstellen" (Continue crafting (...)). I noticed even more errors in several pie menues in the German language, I will list them here in the case you have the spare time to fix them ::) - the self-interaction "Unterhalten...Breakdance vorführen/Breakdance für Trinkgeld vorführen" (Entertain...Perform breakdance in English ?) is not in the same menu with "Unterhalten...Rappen" oder "Unterhalten...Feuertanz aufführen" (Rap and Firedance) due to an additional space right before the three dots - the new kiss in AL ("Küssen...Abknutschen") (suck face) is not in the same menu with all the other kiss-interactions (again additional space thing) - the "buy potions"-option in the matchpaker menu is messed up: if you choose the number of potions you want to buy they are spread across different menues (hm, is this comprehensive?) Title: Re: Pie Menu Text Strings Fix Post by: Havelock on 2008 October 16, 09:02:29 But one question: is the fix compatible with the official patch? The magic cauldron was updated so it has the new "Weiter (...) herstellen" (Continue crafting (...)). Yes it works. Weiter (...) herstellen is there if the Witch/Warlock got canceled while crafting something. Title: Re: Pie Menu Text Strings Fix Post by: Lord Darcy on 2008 October 16, 10:31:35 If scold/praise for using sim toilet, litter box or both. Only for Sim toilet.Polish Litterbox strings: Praise for.../Peeing in Litterbox -> Pochwal za.../Załatwianie się do kuwety Scold for.../Peeing in Litterbox -> Zgań za.../Załatwianie się do kuwety The messed up pie menues in German always annoyed me to death. Spread the word to German forums, German is the worst-affected language.I'll look into the text strings that you've mentioned. Title: Re: Pie Menu Text Strings Fix Post by: bloodredtoe on 2008 October 16, 20:46:38 Praise for.../Peeing in Litterbox -> Pochwal za.../Załatwianie się do kuwety
Scold for.../Peeing in Litterbox -> Zgań za.../Załatwianie się do kuwety both stay unchanged. Praise for.../Peeing in Toilet -> Pochwal za.../Załatwienie się w kuwecie should be Pochwal za.../Załatwienie się do ubikacji Scold for.../Peeing in Toilet -> Zgań za.../Załatwienie się w kuwecie should be Zgań za.../Załatwienie się do ubikacji If there any window saying "your cat has learned the command" etc. or on the list of learned commands in the job view - will need corrections, too. I came to think that the best way to change the strings for craftable objects will be to use "Make object..."/"Make many objects..." (like the cauldron options) instead of "Make one"/"Make many". So for Danish it's "Lav genstand..." and "Lav mange genstande..." For Norwegian: "Lag gjenstand..." and "Lag mange gjenstander..." Title: Re: Pie Menu Text Strings Fix Post by: Leo on 2008 October 17, 08:45:42 I discovered another inconsistency in the German telephone menu:
"Anrufen...Vermieter...Kakerlaken melden" (report cockroaches to the landlord) is correctly in the normal "Call..." menu but "Anrufen ...Vermieter ...Reparatur anfragen" (ask landlord for repair) again has two times an incorrectly inserted space and thus appears as an extra menu option. So if you get to fix that along with the other mentioned errors I really will adore you for the rest of my life. :D Title: Re: Pie Menu Text Strings Fix Post by: zoebme on 2008 October 17, 10:16:26 I love your fix! I play in German as well and there were just errors everywhere! Especially the meals menu is so much better now, it acutally makes sense and does not randomly call some meals lunch and some dinner at the same time of day.
In case you are still adding stuff, I found two more as well: The new play interaction for AL (where the parent swings the child around) is separate to the other play interactions because of the space before the three dots. And in the newspaper, there are separate "read parts" (=Teil lesen) for different hobbies. Also, I seem to remember that the makeover chair from OfB was all wrong, you can't see whether you are offering a makeover for free or for payment because the text is the same. Unfortunately, I couldn't look that up properly right now. Thank you so much for doing this. Title: Re: Pie Menu Text Strings Fix Post by: bloodredtoe on 2008 October 17, 14:54:07 More in Danish:
Wardrobes: Change name for Plan outfit/outdoors from "Planlæg tøj.../Udendørstøj" to "Vælg nyt tøj.../Udendørstøj" to match other clothing. (on the side I noticed that there's no option to change appearance for toddlers on the wardrobe with mirror that came with AL) Changing board: (with multiple toddlers at home) Change string for casual clothes and pajamas from "Klæd om.../(...)" to "Klæd.../(...)" to match text for single child. For outdoors outfit it's ok. Gardening soil: Change string for fertilize many with compost (or whatever it is in English) from "Gød meget.../Fra kompost" to "Gød mange.../Fra kompost". Interactions: Change string for influence to bathe from "Påvirk til at.../Bade" to "Påvirk.../Bade" to match other Influence actions. Change string for dance together from "Dans sammen" to "Dans.../Sammen" to merge it with "Dans.../Klassisk" (are they together in other languages?) Title: Re: Pie Menu Text Strings Fix Post by: Timoram on 2008 October 17, 15:58:57 Here's my contribution :
French Piano, guitar, bass guitar and battery The interaction "Danser le Smustle" should be "Danser.../Smustle" to match the others dances (ex : "Danser.../Polka"). Fridges Check out the "..." in the names of interactions. Happy Holiday meals are seperate from others meals. Living statue "Donner un conseil" should be "Donner un pourboire", to correct the litteral traduction. Bookcases "Acheter des poissons" should be "Réassortir" (only if we sell the books of the bookcase) Wardrobes "Prévoir une tenue.../Tenue d'extérieur" should be "Choisir une tenue.../Tenue d'extérieur" to regroup all outfits into same menu. Sims "Danser ensemble" should be "Danser.../En duo" to match the interactions "Danser.../Classique" and "Danser.../En solo". This problem affects all languages. Stereo The name of the station "College Rock" in English is "Rock FM" in French with Apartment Life installed. It should be "Pop-rock" (in the sound options, too). With Free Time installed, name of the "House Mix" station is "Mix perso" in French. When clicking on radio, it's "House mix" or "Mix house". It should be "Mix perso". Location of the country station is "Changer de CD.../Country". It should be "Changer de style.../Country" to match other stations. Location of the New Wave station is "Mettre.../Shopping". It should be "Changer de style.../Shopping" to match others stations. DJ turnables With Free Time installed, name of the "House Mix" station is "Mix perso" in French. When clicking on radio, it's "House mix" or "Mix house". It should be "Mix perso". The interaction "Danser le Smustle" should be "Danser.../Smustle" to match the others dances (ex : "Danser.../Polka").. And, every interactions that begins with a capital "é", "è", or an capital "à" begins with "E", "E",and "A" instead of "É", "È" and "À". Combinaisons for these letters are ALT + 0201, ALT + 0200 and ALT + 0192. Title: Re: Pie Menu Text Strings Fix Post by: Havelock on 2008 October 17, 18:40:46 And in the newspaper, there are separate "read parts" (=Teil lesen) for different hobbies. The string is called Read Section.../(...) and there are 10 strings in every Language its made this way by EAxis. However the wording Teil lesen.../(...) is wrong. It should be Rubrik lesen…/(...). Edit: removed Attachement. Title: Re: Pie Menu Text Strings Fix Post by: Timoram on 2008 October 17, 21:05:42 I forgot this :
Nightlife ceiling "Changer animation.../$Local:0 en boucle (Oui)" and "Changer animation.../$Local:0 en boucle (Non)" are incorrect ! The first interaction turns on all lights, the second turns off all lights. I tested it by night, at 03:00 AM. Wow :o the amount of requests is quite overwhelming. Guess I've just opened a whole new can of worms. :D With such a long request list, I must have missed something. Please test the new version and let me know if I forgot something. To fix cluttered Sim menu (like new AL kiss or Vamprocillin-D on Gypsy), I had to make overrides for PersonGlobal text strings. Chances are that it may conflict with other hacks which also alter these resources. I seem to remember that the makeover chair from OfB was all wrong, you can't see whether you are offering a makeover for free or for payment because the text is the same. Yes, both "Offer Free Makeover to..." and "Offer Makeover to..." use the same German text string, "Umgestaltung anbieten...". I need a proper German translation for free makeover.Changing board: In Norwegian, Everyday and PJs use "Kle på...", while Outerwear uses "Kle...". Which one should I use?(with multiple toddlers at home) Change string for casual clothes and pajamas from "Klæd om.../(...)" to "Klæd.../(...)" to match text for single child. For outdoors outfit it's ok. Change string for influence to bathe from "Påvirk til at.../Bade" to "Påvirk.../Bade" to match other Influence actions. Also fixed "Påvirk.../Læse om (hobby)" which suffers from the same glitch.Change string for dance together from "Dans sammen" to "Dans.../Sammen" to merge it with "Dans.../Klassisk" (are they together in other languages?) No, "Dance Together", "Slow Dance" and "Dance.../Classic" are all scattered in other languages too.All 3 dances now show up under "Dance..." in English, German, French, Danish and Korean. If anyone has better suggestion for translated text, please let me know. Looks like French can give German a run for money. Stereo menu is an even bigger mess than German. Piano, guitar, bass guitar and battery Can't find the text string for "Danser le Smustle". Are you sure that this happens in Maxis objects? The interaction "Danser le Smustle" should be "Danser.../Smustle" to match the others dances (ex : "Danser.../Polka") Living statue Not sure what you mean by "living statue". Is it a decorative object?"Donner un conseil" should be "Donner un pourboire", to correct the litteral traduction. Stereo Exactly where? It appears as Pop-rock under "Switch to..." menu. The name of the station "College Rock" in English is "Rock FM" in French with Apartment Life installed. It should be "Pop-rock" (in the sound options, too). And, every interactions that begins with a capital "é", "è", or an capital "à" begins with "E", "E",and "A" instead of "É", "È" and "À". Combinaisons for these letters are ALT + 0201, ALT + 0200 and ALT + 0192. That's a tall order, as I can't read French. I wouldn't know which interactions need to be fixed.Nightlife ceiling I can't figure out what those broken interactions are supposed to do originally."Changer animation.../$Local:0 en boucle (Oui)" and "Changer animation.../$Local:0 en boucle (Non)" are incorrect ! The first interaction turns on all lights, the second turns off all lights. I tested it by night, at 03:00 AM. Lord Darcy i added the Pie Menue Strings for the Newspaper (AL) version i have allredy extracted and fixed the german menue for my Game, use if you like. Added in the new version. Thanks for the fix.Title: Re: Pie Menu Text Strings Fix (Updated 2008/10/18) Post by: zoebme on 2008 October 18, 06:57:34 I seem to remember that the makeover chair from OfB was all wrong, you can't see whether you are offering a makeover for free or for payment because the text is the same. In Danish they appear under "Køb drik", "Køb mikstur" and "Køb eliksir". Best change all to "Køb eliksir", to match with the cauldron. Speaking of potions and cauldron... The cauldron is more messed up than it seemed at first sight. Some names of potions don't correspond with names given to actual objects. In French, the new expensive bed that came with AL (who vibrate) has an incorrect name for the interaction "Vibrate"... It's "Vibrate" and it should be "Vibrer". Pescado on 2008 November 07, 14:47:06 BTW: Anytime you include a modified stringset, it is recommended that you just nuke the EN_UK strings to force them to default to the EN_US strings, as there is no point in having a redundant identical stringset and it will make the resulting file a good deal smaller, unless you actually implement British spelling...and even then, you'd only need to keep those strings.
Title: Re: Pie Menu Text Strings Fix (Updated 2008/11/07) Post by: Timoram on 2008 November 13, 10:26:06 I found many wrong interactions names, in French, of course.
First of all, the classic error of "Danser" and "Danser.../Smustle" : (http://img255.imageshack.us/img255/8928/captureriy6.png) Should be "Danser.../En solo" instead of "Danser". And, there's this interaction (when you select a Sim, and then "Kiss.../") : (http://img99.imageshack.us/img99/4481/captureriz9.png) It should be "En dansant". And, the interaction between two members of a secret society is "Jouer.../Poignée de main secrète". It should be "Saluer.../Poignée de main secrète". And, there's so many errors for those interactions : (http://img118.imageshack.us/img118/8585/capturereh5.png) This interaction appears if you want your Sim join others Sims that play Footbag. Should be "Participer au Footbag". (http://img389.imageshack.us/img389/7499/capturer1xr1.png) Appears if you want your Sim join others Sims that play with water bombs, or snow balls. I think it's the annoying game that came in Seasons... Should be "Participer à la bataille de bombes à eau" and for the winter's game "Participer à la bataille de boules de neiges". (http://img522.imageshack.us/img522/6817/capturer5wm9.png) Appears if you want to dance (the base game dance) and if you click on a Sim that already dance. Should be "Participer à la danse". (http://img389.imageshack.us/img389/8681/capturer10vk3.png) No comments... Should be "Participer aux fléchettes". (http://img151.imageshack.us/img151/7910/capturer11ep5.png) Should be "Participer aux échecs". (http://img523.imageshack.us/img523/2333/capturer13el5.png) This is the game that came with Free Time. Should be "Participer au Lama qui dort". (http://img522.imageshack.us/img522/37/capturer14hu3.png) Mahjong game from Bon Voyage. Should be "Participer au Mahjong pour s'amuser". (http://img509.imageshack.us/img509/2025/capturer15kg2.png) Should be "Participer au Mahjong pour de l'argent". (http://img266.imageshack.us/img266/1742/capturer17sz4.png) The water game (I didn't know the English name) that came with Bon Voyage. Should be "Participer aux bûches nautiques". (http://img118.imageshack.us/img118/7664/capturer18tu4.png) Basketball game that came with Free Time. Should be "Participer au basketball". (http://img151.imageshack.us/img151/1773/capturer20by0.png) The train game (why I didn't remember the original name ?) in Free Time. Should be "Aider pour ajouter l'élement". (http://img407.imageshack.us/img407/3631/capturer12oa2.png) It's the poker table from Nightlife. Should be "Participer au poker". (http://img406.imageshack.us/img406/6200/capturer16zh2.png) Soccer goal from Free Time. Should be "Participer au football" (yes, in French, "football" means soccer !). That's all today ! Title: Re: Pie Menu Text Strings Fix (Updated 2008/11/07) Post by: Lord Darcy on 2008 November 17, 12:24:16 About the whole bunch of "Join" and "Ask to Join" requests:
Not broken, they are working as intended. It's the same way in English too, e.g. just "Join" and "Watch", not "Join Soccer". "Join" and "Ask to Join" are dynamic pie menus which are globally added to the objects when required, not tied with specific objects. Same goes to the solo dancing in all instruments. ETA: About Secret Handshake. And, the interaction between two members of a secret society is "Jouer.../Poignée de main secrète". It should be "Saluer.../Poignée de main secrète". Secret Handshake is a Play interaction, not a Greet interaction. It appears under "Play" in English too. I'm not arbitrarily moving interactions around to where I see fit. AFAIR, "Greet..." was only introduced in AL. If I move Secret Handshake from Play to Greet, Sim menu in pre-AL EPs will be cluttered more, not less.Title: Re: Pie Menu Text Strings Fix (Updated 2008/11/07) Post by: J. M. (http://i42.tinypic.com/2elrpxk.jpg) (http://i39.tinypic.com/1z4zqky.jpg) I made the boxes "buyable" but the texts which are shown when I click the objects does not make any sense in german: "Durchsuchen" which means "search through" will set the price "Objekt zeigen" which means "show object" will set the price "Preis festlegen" which means "set price" will refill the box when something was sold At least "Ware präsentieren..." (= show to sb.) does what is says. IIRC the boxes with jewelry show correct texts. Could you please have a look into that and correct the texts? Or are these objects not save to use in a sims business? I ask because the animation when a sim buys something out of these boxes doesn't seem to be correct. At least in my game in this sim-owned shop the sims will not grab towards these boxes when they want to buy as they do with any other object they want to buy. But they will go to the cash desk and pay afterwards so they actually must have taken something out of the box. The business strings for BV souvenir racks were wrong in all languages except for US English, because OFB features of souvenir racks were never completed. Furthermore, EAxis deliberately crippled remaining OFB features of souvenir racks in one of BV patches. Or are these objects not save to use in a sims business? (http://www.moreawesomethanyou.com/smf/index.php/topic,13399.msg381833.html#msg381833) The only way I can merge them under one menu is to change all Maxis stations like "Changer pour.../<name of the station>". I have a question about food strings used by cooking objects. Both "Get (cooked food)" and "Make.../(single plate or group meal)" use "Préparer". Except for OFB desserts, which use "Prendre". They should not share the same verb, otherwise pie menu can be jumbled when Sims take cooked food off the stove. I'm going to use "Prendre" for all base game food to maintain consistency. "Servir le déjeuner.../Soupe "Le potager de Mamie" and "Servir déjeuner.../(any other group meal)" should be merge into "Servir le déjeuner.../(name of the group meal)" 2. "Prendre.../Omelettes" doesn't have sense, because it means "take a meal already cooked" ("Omelettes" needs to except if the meal is already cooked and ready to be eaten. The "Get" fonction should be only available for these meals (that doesn't need to be cook) : "Gelée" and "Repas instantané", and also FT plates that only appear with a minimum hobby enthousiasm for Cooking. I think the "Get" interaction should be "Prendre.../Repas de groupe.../(name of the group meal)" or "Prendre.../Plat individuel.../(name of the single meal)". 3. I think fridge interactions are too much complicate. - With "Servir déjeuner.../" (or "Servir le dîner.../" or "Servir le petit-déjeuner.../"), a Sim will cook will cook a group meal, then put it on any counter or island, and then take one plate to eat, except for "Repas instantané" : they'll take (without cooking), put on any counter or island and then eat a "Repas instantané" in group meal size. - With "Déjeuner.../" (or "Dîner, or "Petit-déjeuner"), a Sim will cook a single plate, then put it on any counter or island, and then take one plate to eat, except for "Repas instantané" : they'll take (without cooking), put on any counter or island and then eat a single "Repas instantané". - With "Servir le dessert.../", a Sim will cook will cook a group meal, then put it on any counter or island, and then take one plate to eat except for "Gelée" : they'll take (without cooking), put on any counter or island and then eat a "Gelée" in a group meal size. - With "Préparer.../Repas de groupe.../", a Sim will cook (without eating) a single group meal, and put it on any counter or island. - With "Préparer.../Plat individuel.../", a Sim will cook (without eating) a single plate, and put it on any counter or island. - With "Préparer plusieurs.../Repas de groupe.../" and "Préparer plusieurs.../Plat individuel.../", a Sim will cook respectively group meals or single plates until you stop him/her. - With "Servir une assiette.../", a Sim will take a group meal, then put it on any counter or island, and then take one plate to eat. I think "Petit-déjeuner.../(name of the meal)" should be "Cuisiner le petit-déjeuner.../Plat individuel.../(name of the meal)" and "Servir le petit-déjeuner.../(name of the meal)" should be "Cuisiner le petit-déjeuner.../Repas de groupe.../(name of the meal)", in order to match OFB interactions. Lunch : "Déjeuner.../(name of the meal)" should be "Cuisiner le déjeuner.../Plat individuel.../(name of the meal)" and "Servir le déjeuner.../(name of the meal)" or "Servir déjeuner.../(name of the meal)" should be "Cuisiner le déjeuner.../Repas de groupe.../(name of the meal)". Dinner : "Dîner.../(name of the meal)" should be "Cuisiner le dîner.../Plat individuel.../(name of the meal)" and "Servir le dîner.../(name of the meal)" should be "Cuisiner le dîner.../Repas de groupe.../(name of the meal)". And in French Canadian : Breakfast : "Petit-déjeuner.../(name of the meal)" should be "Cuisiner le déjeuner.../Plat individuel.../(name of the meal)" and "Servir le petit-déjeuner.../(name of the meal)" should be "Cuisiner le déjeuner.../Repas de groupe.../(name of the meal)". Lunch "Déjeuner.../(name of the meal)" should be "Cuisiner le dîner.../Plat individuel.../(name of the meal)" and "Servir le déjeuner.../(name of the meal)" or "Servir déjeuner.../(name of the meal)" should be "Cuisiner le dîner.../Repas de groupe.../(name of the meal)". Dinner : "Dîner.../(name of the meal)" should be "Cuisiner le souper.../Plat individuel.../(name of the meal)" and "Servir le dîner.../(name of the meal)" should be "Cuisiner le souper.../Repas de groupe.../(name of the meal)". Also, I think you should merge "Servir une assiette.../(name of the meal)", " In fact, "Préparer" means cook a meal and put it somewhere to eat it later. "Cuisiner" means cook a meal, serve it (or take a plate) and then eat it. I have all Castway Stories conversions, and I saw that CS potions can be drink while clicking on a Sim and click "Drink Potion.../(name of the CS potion)" and in French "Boire la potion.../(name of the CS potion)". Why not include the TS "Drink" interaction into "Drink Potion.../(name of the potion)" (French : "Boire la potion.../(name of the potion)", in order to match CS "Drink" interaction ? Example (in English) : "Drink Potion.../Love Potion" Example (in French) : "Boire la potion.../Essence enchantée de queue de chiens" So this change should apply to those potions (name in French) : - Chasse-sorcière (AL potion) (the original name of the interaction is "Utiliser le Chasse-sorcière") - Chlorophyrine (SSN potion) (original name of the interaction : "Utiliser de la chlorophyrine") - Délycanthropique (Pets potion) (original name : "Boire le délycanthropique") - Vampirociline (NL potion for vampires) (orignal name : "Utiliser la Vampirociline") - Philtre d'amour 8.5 (Love Potion, came with NL) (original name : "Boire le philtre d'amour 8.5") - Oublicine pré-dosée (can change the turn on/turn off, came with NL) (original name : "Boire Oublicine pré-dosée") Others potions that can be make by a witch (Essence enchantée de queues de chiens et Sucre épicé magique) cannot be drink when they're inside the inventory. Title: Re: Pie Menu Text Strings Fix (Updated 2008/12/23) Post by: Lord Darcy on 2009 January 19, 11:54:56 Shit! I have only one new hack that would make such a mess. I have to contact MadCat. Well, I already mentioned this issue a couple of times, in case you didn't notice. :P Note: To fix cluttered Sim menu (like new AL kiss or Vamprocillin-D on Gypsy), I had to make overrides for PersonGlobals text strings. Chances are that it may conflict with other hacks (like InTeen) which also alter these resources. HCDU shows 2 conflicts between this fix and the Inteenimater B Package , would that be a problem?? Inteen modifies the same PersonGlobal text string as this fix. If you can't part with InTeen, make sure that InTeen loads after this fix. You'll lose corrections for Sim interactions (like Dance or Buy Potion) though.Personally I don't Kill Kittens, but it would be nice if MadCat includes fixed PersonGlobal stringset in the new version of InTeen. I only fixed it in the EAxian way it was supposed to be. The only exception is Sim menu for dances. "Dance Together" "Slow Dance" and "Dance.../Classic" are now found under "Dance.../". @Timoram: For Food strings, original EAxian strings should be honoured, however awkward they may be. The key is consistency. If I arbitrarily change them as I see fit, fridge menu will be hopelessly cluttered when you have custom food. 1. "Servir le déjeuner.../Soupe "Le potager de Mamie" and "Servir déjeuner.../(any other group meal)" should be merge into "Servir le déjeuner.../(name of the group meal)" I'm going to move Grandma's Comfort Soup under "Servir déjeuner...", rather than to move all the other foods under "Servir le déjeuner...".2. "Get" function is not what you think. Observe:(http://i239.photobucket.com/albums/ff243/creamgray/The%20Sims%202/PieMenu_GetFood_Stove_1.jpg) (http://i239.photobucket.com/albums/ff243/creamgray/The%20Sims%202/PieMenu_GetFood_Stove_2.jpg) (http://i239.photobucket.com/albums/ff243/creamgray/The%20Sims%202/PieMenu_GetFood_ToasterOven.jpg) Both "Get" and "Make..." use "Préparer". Except for OFB desserts, which use "Prendre". Unless "Prendre" is something really unacceptable, I'm going to stick to existing EAxian strings for consistency, rather than to introduce a whole new verb. 3. I think fridge interactions are too much complicate. This mod is mainly for correcting mistakes, not for drastically changing EAxian way as you see fit.<French Teal Deer snipped> Also, I think you should merge "Servir une assiette.../(name of the meal)", This is a FT-exclusive function, so it should be left untouched.Had a reading comprehension fail moment, now I understand what you meant. I never used CS potion before, I'll have a look at it. I all... i'm spanish and my english is terrible but i want made a request... Lolwut? Why should I support someone else's payshit? And what does dollhouse have anything to do with pie menu fix? This is NOT a request forum, in case you didn't notice.http://valdea.com/ All the things they do are for english users only, i'm having problems to understand all the interactions with the npc's that they offer... ??? The string is changed from "Resume Cooking" to "Get (food)" or "Get.../(food)" when the cooking process is completed with that "ting" sound.<snip> But, in fact, the meal will be ready and you'll have to take it. So this verb's correct. More French help is needed. (http://i239.photobucket.com/albums/ff243/creamgray/The%20Sims%202/PieMenu_French_Encourage.jpg) "Encourage.../To Be Outgoing" string is translated into "Encourager.../A se montrer extraverti", while the rest of strings are translated into "Encourager à être.../(personality)", resulting in inconsistency. "Encourager à être.../A se montrer extraverti" doesn't seem to be grammatically correct. (http://i239.photobucket.com/albums/ff243/creamgray/The%20Sims%202/PieMenu_French_Management.jpg) From "Management..." on OFB employees. Crafted flowers use "Composer", unlike all the rest of craftables (OFB and FT alike) which use "Fabriquer". Can I safely use "Fabriquer" on OFB flowers too? Like "Fabriquer des Bouquets de fleurs mélangées" or "Fabriquer à l'unité.../Bouquet de tulipes", for example. Just like food strings, I'd rather use "Fabriquer" if it's something acceptable. (Notice that I already moved the orphaned "Management.../Craft Robots.../Servo" menu under "Make Many...".) (http://i239.photobucket.com/albums/ff243/creamgray/The%20Sims%202/PieMenu_French_Snuggle.jpg) "Snuggle" on toddlers. Looks like this interaction was originally designed as "Hug.../Snuggle" but changed at the last minute, after all translations were sent in. It should be just one verb sans slash. What do you suggest? Will "Se blottir" work? Man, this PersonGlobals string is a mess. Every time I update this fix, I come up with a fresh batch of b0rkenness from PersonGlobals. I also fixed orphaned "Comment tu me trouves" (Do You Like What You See?), so that it properly appears under "Demander..." (Ask...). EAxis is partly to blame for this mess, failing to provide enough information for translators to maintain consistency. They used to give detailed descriptions around EP1 or EP2, but recent EPs come with almost nil information to guide translators. One more evidence that quality control is a long-lost concept inside EAxis. Hmm... "Fabriquer" only apply to technology. "Composer" is correct, since the badge's name is "Composition florale". For a correct verb for all OFB craftables, "Créer" is more appropriate. Is "Créer" suitable for FT craftables too? Because all craftables, OFB and FT alike, should use the same verb. So "Encourager.../A se montrer extraverti" should be "Encourager.../À être extraverti". (dont forget the accent on the A), and all others strings should be "Encourager.../À être soigné", "Encourager.../À être sympathique", "Encourager.../À être actif" & ""Encourager.../À être espiègle".

This time, "Read Sections.../(hobby)" menu was really fixed in German and Brazilian Portuguese. Chili Con Carne and Grandma's Comfort Soup use "Grab a Bowl" instead of "Grab a Plate". In French, "Make" is translate into "Faire". "Faire" is too general and not enough specific. "Créer" is more appropriate. As per your suggestion, I changed both "Gestion.../Fabriquer plusieurs.../" and "Gestion.../Composer plusieurs.../" to "Gestion.../Créer plusieurs.../". This only applies to Management menu on employees. Strings for crafting stations themselves were not altered, they still use "Fabriquer" and "Composer".But it will be better if we have (in French) a specific verb for every craftable, but it will not match others languages and it would be redundant. 2009-03-27: Updated to v1.12. Added Phone Call - Magazines - Subscribe, computers, Drama TV channel and OrchardTreeGlobals. (http://www.moreawesomethanyou.com/smf/Themes/babylon/images/english/new.gif) "Drink (potion)" in Sim pie menu will be merged under "Drink.../(potion)", just like CS potions. Title: Re: Pie Menu Text Strings Fix (Updated 2009/03/27) Post by: Fikcija on 2009 April 07, 19:40:37 I'd love a fix for the phone menu. I have the Happy Holiday Stuff and I get two "Throw Party" menus. One of them Throw Party -> New Year's Bash (or something like that) and the other Throw Party with all the regular (House party, Sports party, Wedding party etc.). So maybe you could make them all appear in one "Throw Party".

Found yet moar inconsistency with potions. 影響.../喝吸血盤尼西林 - D($local:0) 影響.../飲用化狼人B群($local:0) 影響.../飲用種植多旋C($local:0) 影響.../飲用去女巫-E($local:0) 影響.../喝神奇狗尾原液($local:0) 影響.../喝神奇辣味糖($local:0) Which verb should I use for "Drink", 喝 or 飲用? Also, wrong potion names again. ::) Title: Re: Pie Menu Text Strings Fix (Updated 2009/03/27) Post by: hansbobby on 2009 April 29, 04:24:38 Which verb should I use for "Drink", 喝 or 飲用? Also, wrong potion names again. ::) I'm not very sure since they are somewhat exchangeable. Personally I prefer 飲用, because 喝 is more often used in daily life and for regular drinks; 飲用, as a more formal form, would be more suitable for these not-so-regular potions. Also, I found the direct interactions to those potions have the same inconsistency problem. Title: Re: Pie Menu Text Strings Fix (Updated 2009/03/27) Post by: Fikcija on 2009 April 29, 13:12:33 I'm playing the english version of the game, but I could install on my laptop and play-test the russian if needed. I still remember the funny times with the first sims when my friend had russian version installed and the "fill bowl" (in unleashed) was translated into russian like "fill aquarium".

I forgot that there IS actually an official EAxian string for "Drink.../(potion name)" in Castaway Stories, which can be found in Awesome CS conversions (http://www.moreawesomethanyou.com/ffs/index.php?dir=csconv%2F). EAxis used 喝 for this string. ("喝藥水.../") I already used this string in my fix, so that "Drink (potion)" in Sim pie menu will be merged under "Drink.../(potion)" If both verbs are exchangeable, I think that it's better to stick with 喝, keeping consistent with official EAxian strings. I noticed a couple of glaring mistakes in PersonGlobals, i.e. "Propose.../Be Roommate" is translated into "Сделать предложение.../Переехать в квартиру", while other Propose functions use "Предложить.../", resulting in an orphaned submenu. Is "Предложить.../Переехать в квартиру" grammatically correct?Title: Re: Pie Menu Text Strings Fix (Updated 2009/03/27) Post by: Fikcija on 2009 April 30, 21:57:37 I noticed a couple of glaring mistakes in PersonGlobals, i.e. "Propose.../Be Roommate" is translated into "Сделать предложение.../Переехать в квартиру", while other Propose functions use "Предложить.../", resulting in an orphaned submenu. Is "Предложить.../Переехать в квартиру" grammatically correct? "Сделать предложение" is only used when proposing engagement, but I think it would look good with marriage as well. "Предложить" is a more common word, like "offer". I would also suggest to replace "Переехать в квартиру" (which means "move into the apartment") with "Снимать квартиру вместе" ("Rent an apartment together), because there is no actual word for a roommate in russian. There's nothing grammatically wrong with "Предложить.../Переехать в квартиру", but my suggestion would be more accurate knowing what exactly it means in the game. If I missed something, please let me know.
