Title: What is this hack?
Post by: Gastfyr on 2008 September 16, 05:45:04
d2b0a4189ccd69b70915692d48096107_0002  It's in my Downloads folder in the subfolder that I only ever put hacks I download from this site into.  But, I have no idea what it is, no memory of downloading a file with that odd of a name, and I certainly don't see it on the list of AL compatable hacks.  I'm gonna move it out of my Downloads folder for now because I'm pretty sure not having it won't bork my game.

When you find files with creepy names like that at the top level of your Downloads folder, they have been put there by installing a Sims2Pack file - usually a lot you downloaded that came bundled with CC.  They only appear after you first play your game after installing the Sims2Pack, because running the game completes the installation process   The best thing with Sims2Pack files is only to add one at a time to your game, and when you close the game, examine your Downloads folder and either delete any oddnamed files or make a folder to keep them in *with* the lot or sim they came with (depending if you want that lot or sim to keep its custom content)

Next time, it would possibly be a good idea to use the Sims2Pak Clean installer, when you install lots/etc with this, it will identify hacks. The hacks will be highlighted in red. Otherwise, you wouldn't know what harm you're causing your game.

E-Axis did it.

E-Axis did it.
EAxis hacked my game?   :o  lol

Yeah, I'll use the clean installer to install lots from now on.  The only lots I was installing were ones from here, from the EAxis House of Fail thread, so I guess I got lazy and figured they'd be ok.  lol

It's probably an old version of the Phone Controller, then -- that seems to creep into lots sometimes even when the creators are diligent about not using other cc.

My rule of thumb is to delete any hack/mod that I don't know what it is [/stilted phrasing].  If I can't identify it from it's filename, I did not knowingly download it, and I probably don't want it.

I go by the same rule.  I don't have anything in my game that is named with just random letters and numbers even if it is just a recolor.

That's a good rule to go by.  :)
