New sim, new apartment building, goes to get newspaper: that dreaded "Oops! You broke it!" error. Here's the log. What happened? Lessee. She picked up the newspaper, turned towards the house, and an error box appeared, and I was unable to do anything except pause and back out of the house without saving. No jump, no unselectable, just error box and stop. That's what SimWardrobe and Havelock are referring to, not to a hack.
