Was bored the other day so I decided to try out a tutorial on mod the sims and make my sim kids a new custom snack - a jar of paste.
I ended up cloning the single serving of chinese takeout because the animations worked best with my mesh.

Sim kids love the paste, but it's going straight to their hips.

What values do I need to change to make paste less fattening?  A BCON, BHAV?

Also, the paste has a custom utensil (paste top) that's currently in its own file.  Can I just glomp the two objects together in one package, or is it best to leave them separate?

LOL don't clone the chinese food-that always causes your sims to lose fitness, even if a serving doesn't fill their hunger bar!

I think I need an American-English translation here.  Jar of paste?  Over here you'd rub it on your teeth or stick up wallpaper with it.

Also a type of glue for kids here in the US, common in pre-schools and elementary schools. Comes in a jar with a brush built into the lid.

It is (or used to be) based on corn starch, so it was quite edible, and somewhat tasty.  :)

I enjoyed the smell of it, but I never ate it, unlike other members of my preschool class. :D

My paste usage was always monitored.  :'( I can conjure up the smell right now and it makes my mouth water.

Will a Sim toddler or child eat pet food if hungry enough?
(I confess to eating dog food a few times as a kid, but never paste)

Toddlers love to eat the pet food. I have to keep the toddlers on a separate floor so they can't get to it. I don't recall if it has to do if they are hungry or not. I seem to recall a well cared for toddler that always wanted to head straight for the pet food dish.

Hm...  that makes me wonder if placing the automatic feeder from Pet Stories in the toddler facilities would spare me to feed them... I must try this as soon as I get home.

Sloppyhousewife: It does, but it has poor hunger satisfaction value, probably because they mostly throw it in the air rather than eating it. The Baby Controller automatically uses it as a fallback mode if there are no bottles and the toddler has gotten REALLY hungry! I remember when Ness thought of that idea (http://www.moreawesomethanyou.com/smf/index.php/topic,6014.0.html). If the hunger value weren't so crap, I would make it the DEFAULT position!

Also, gimme that edible paste. AWESOMELAND NEEDS IT!

Toddlers also eat sand on beach lots. I assume the hunger value on that is crap as well?

Wow, I made this for my own twisted amusement. I didn't think anyone else would want it.  :D

Unfortunately, edible paste is not yet safe for public consumption.

The tutorial I used didn't cover cloning anything other than cake and getting this to work required some improvised BHAV editing. I'm a total n00b at that kind of stuff. There are still many problems I have to work out.

For example, when I repositioned the paste top mesh to work with the teen/adult animations, I borked it for the kids. Now every time Alex Goth goes to take a bite of paste, he sticks himself in the eye with the brush.  :'(

I suspect kids and adults are going to need separate utensil meshes, but right now I have no idea how to change the Eat Interaction to do this.

So, I still need to poke at this a bit, maybe read a few more tutorials, ask some questions here or at mts2. If I can't figure it out in a few days, I'll turn over what I have, mesh and code to el presidente or whoever wants to make an awesome version.

Other than echo's tutorial on bhavs, can anyone recommend any tutorials or posts that might be helpful? I can haz klew?

Since you asked so politely, here's the paste jar (with borked childrens' animation), paste top (cloned from fork) and the meshes & texture for the Paste Party Pack I was going to make from a cloned tray of chinese food but never got the chance.

That's some of the winniest win that's been recently won.

The shark-vat has almost has much win as the edible paste. I'm loving the picture and excited for the glue. I was quite a fan of Rubber Glue in elementary school.

Okay, so reviewing the work so far, I think your first and most obvious mistake is choosing to clone the top from the fork, an unrelated object, instead of using the chopsticks that are paired with the Chinese box as your base item. This has introduced a great deal of unnecessary complication and outright gibberish into the code. I am fixing this now, and the animations now align for both. Huzzah. All hail me.

I used the fork because I couldn't find the chopsticks in simPE to clone at first.

Now that I've discovered (just an hour ago) that the advanced mode of the Object Workshop allows you to clone objects by GUID, I shan't be making that mistake in the future.

The shark vat really doesn't do anything cool. It's just a silly prop/statue based off of an old Eaxis halloween decoration, placed on top of a bonfire to make it look nice and toasty.

It looks quite ridiculous in daylight.
