My old computer (lovingly dubbed Shitbox) is constantly throwing me an error message:

Basically when I turn it on it throws that at me and if I close the message it throws it at me again. I'm assuming msnmsgr = MSN Messenger (which has no installation disk). I don't want to trawl around the System 32 folder because I don't want to accidentally delete something and make good 'ole Shitbox FUBAR.

Oh, and the kitteh in the background is the adorable Millie. Nothing wrong with posting kittehs :D

Sounds like that file "devenum.dll" has exploded. You could try searching for "devenum.dll" on Google and copy it to your system32 folder. Don't know if it will help but it can't hurt.

Try hitting start, run and typing sfc /scannow (make sure there is a space between sfc and /scannow). This will check your system files- you may have to insert your OS CD if you haven't copied the I386 folder over. If you have Vista you'll need to run from the administrator account, probably won't need the disc as the files should be in Windows\WinSxS.

It sounds like you can haz spyware. Get rid of that "msnmsgr" thing.

The problem isn't MSN, it's the "devenum.dll" thing-o. I don't want to download and copy a random folder and dump it in the system32 folder (that's how I exploded it in the first place :P)

About to do the scan thing now.

Did scan thing and it asked me to put my installation disk into the CD drive. I no has installation disks :(

How did you get your OS on the computer in the first place?  Was it pre-installed?  If so, you should have made a recovery disk.

Long story short:

Shitbox had XP pre-installed. Disks got lost years ago. We got Vista. Shitbox screamed DO NOT WANT! Techie guy came out and put XP back on it. Pedobait explodes Shitbox. Techie guy comes out again and fixes Shitbox. Pedobait convinces parents to buy new computer. Shitbox lives in my room with no Internets access.

I'm far too stupid to Arrr! a new OS for it, and Shitbox has no Internets access anyways. It's not like it's a massive problem, just an annoying pop-up.

So why do you have MSN on a computer with no Internets? And how can you remember to breathe given how STUPID you are?

It had Internets, but I never bothered to uninstall it out of hope of getting Internets on it.

I am so insanely close to getting rid of Vista. I just had to delete ANOTHER account because of it's shittiness. Stupid fucking Vista...
