I've heard there is some "Power Outage" scenario hidden in the original game. There was supposed to be weather in the game (even without Seasons) and every so often a Power Outage may occur. A popup will then appear asking whether you want to try to keep your Sims in good mood even though there's no electricity... If you succeed, you will be rewarded a wind-energy generator.

People said all the hidden contents were already in the original Sims 2. Just wonder if it is possible to make it back into the game? Well, I dun care about the generator stuff, I guess some1 has made it available as a decorative item already... I just think it would be cool if that Power Outage can be made available again.....

Just some suggestions: the power outage may happen randomly (just like the burglar visit, BTW, how come the burglar has never visited any of my Sims so far? Is that the probability for that to occur is really really low? :P) and maybe during the thunderstorm in Seasons or when you use the weather changing machine from Seasons....

I'm really bad at modding stuff... All I know is how to clone and recolor objects... Can some real modders plz check if making such a hack is feasible? ;)

Sorry, but there is no such thing as a power outage scenario.  You must of heard a stupid rumor.

Yea, the power outages were really caused by the fire-breathing toddlers...

The only power outages that I know of in the game were caused by this (http://www.simslice.com/thesims2/ts2rainmaker.htm).

I've heard that story too.  IIRC Numenor at MTS2 mentioned it when he put in the windmill thingie he's got up there.  AFAIK he's the only one who knows anything about this.

The latest insim has an option to turn off the electricity AND the water. Fun!

The power/water code originally existed, but has basically been reduced to a vestigial stub that no longer functions because things don't adequately check for it.

Didn't Carrigon have a hack that enabled this with the base game and early EPs?  I remember trying it and it was quite fun to vary the gameplay.  I don't know whether it works with the later EPs, especially Seasons, though but you might be better going over to Sims 2 Workshop and asking her.

Yes, the scenario existed.  Various aspects of it have been resurrected by different modders at different times, but I don't know whether anyone ever succeeded in enabling the whole thing or what exists that works with current EP/SP configurations.  Poke around Simslice (which is to say, the Booty) and MTS2's older objects and you should find some stuff relating to it.

I've played the scenario. Too bad I didn't get pictures. I can't remember what configuration I had, I think that it had been Base and Uni, with a mod from MTS2 that re-enabled rain. The power did go out(or at least said it did) and requested that you keep your sims entertained in the hour or so that it would be out. If you kept them happy then the wind generator appeared as a present from the sims city electrical company for basically being a good sport. Bit of a lame mini game, but I did like the electricity going out. I believe that after a Ep or two, that mod threw quite a few errors.

Yeah, it doesn't exactly sound difficult...at all. And what the hell does a wind generator do anyway? Make it so that future power outages don't matter? That's no fun.

As far as I know, that's what it was supposed to do, but not in the case of the one that spawned with that mod. I did the scenario a few times and got a new one each time. I believe that it was buyable rain, the rain would last several sim hours, the electricity would go off almost every time. You could not save while the rain was on lot or it could possibly cause lot corruption.

Haha, I remember that mod actually. The Don't You Dare Ever Save While It's Raining Mod. Wasn't it from Carrigon?

I just didn't know it included the power outage scenario, or I might've actually given it a try. Oh, base game nostalgia.

It could have been, much too long back to remember whether or not Carrigon used to upload to MTS2. I hadn't been paying attention to name brands on hacks back then.

Huh, wouldn't be that hard to make sims have fun in the dark, just make them do what humans do when the lights go out. WOOHOO!

Some who play that one challenge that runs through time periods (I can't recall the name) play that way for generations. No phone, no lights, no tv, etc. I've kind of done it in poverty challenges, but only for a day or two.

What would be nice is if power going out in the winter meant they could freeze inside as well as outside. Where I grew up, we lost power every couple of months and the times it would go out for more than one day during January were loads of fun. Luckily we had a fireplace in the livingroom and we'd keep the fire going and sleep on air mattresses (that we had to blow up manually, of course) a safe distance away. Bathroom needs were extra fun after the first time someone had to do #2.

Now I wonder why we never stayed the night in a hotel or over at a relative's.

Are you sure? If you aren't sure, dun come to any conclusion that early... Just a little piece of advice for you, dun act smart when you actually aren't, it's quite disturbing.... LOL ;D

am I smoking crack, or did they re-enable the power outages in seasons on a low chance during thunderstorms? I'm sure I read something in the booklet that came with my seasons box saying there was a risk of a power outage for a few hours during severe thunder storms but I've yet to see one myself...

Power outages?  I have some sort of blinking memory of this...do Sims even still require lights and windows for environment scores?  I swear I saw on a house-building tutorial that they don't care anymore.  I'm only asking because if they don't, this would be a harder thing to bring back, wouldn't it?

All tard-mockery aside, I really can't stand dark rooms in the real world or in the game. They bum me out. I would not be a fan of such challenges, I don't think.

I still have the wind generator in my game, (from MTS2). Basically, it moves...and it lowers the household bills by a certain amount.

Originally, there was supposed to be a Power Outage scenario, a Meet Your Future-In-Laws scenario, and an Entertain-Your-Employer scenario. I think that the Headmaster scenario is the only mini game that EAxis kept in TS2.

Isn't the Entertain Your Boss scenario supposed to be resurrected for TS3? If it is, I wonder if they'll put any effort into implementing the Power Outage or Meet the Fockers? Boss & In-Laws would probably fall along similar lines to the Headmaster dance, but the failure penalty for each could theoretically be a lot more drastic. Of course, the fact that I'm pondering these ideas with some curiosity and interest means they will not be included.

There was an object called Mad Scientist "Bustin Out" Tesla Coil,
it was made by Wintermuteai1 and I downloaded it at MTS2.

Unfortunately it did not work for me. The Power Outage made my game crash. (So maybe it DID work, in a way...)

I would never trust a hack from someone who used "LOL" in the description and had issues finding their SHIFT key. Coding requires precision.

That's usually a good rule of thumb to follow.

Unfortunately, that seems to be 90% or more of all the modders out there. And I don't mean just for The Sims.

The world is run by C students.

C students don't commit fully to their projects. Chances are that a "C student" modder is not going to support their mods. Why put something in your game that is going to blow up at a future date?

If anyone actually cares, I have a hack coming soon that does a lot of things with power and water. It should also re-enabled the Power Outage Scenario. Been working on this for months it seems, but it is almost done.

Many of the newer objects from newer EP/SP don't actually turn off when the electricity is shut off. And the objects are still usable even when the power is off. But I have fixed most of them so far.

I remember it vaguely. No electrical devices could be interacted with and switched off immediately. The ceiling and wall lights still worked however...  :-\ The Windmill supposedly provides power to your sims so they don't have to pay their power bill, basically meaning it just lowers the bills.

I also remember trying the Boss scenario. The phone call worked, a boss NPC was generated but no one came and the scenario aborted immediately. Obviously, there's not much left of it.

What's this about a Future In-Laws scenario though? I've never heard about that one.

I actually heard something about it back in the TS1 days, and that it was possibly linked to the upside down face bug that popped up when Unleashed came out. Unfortunately, my memory of it is hazy.
