Title: Counters wont "connect" Post by: VampLena on 2008 July 06, 18:06:30 hey all, im having this werid problem where no counters will connect, as in Kitchen counters, so i cant put any sinks or dishwaters etc in them. Any ideas?
I have all the Expansion and Stuff packs and patch 1 for Freetime, and all im using are a bunch of hair/eye/skin etc mods and InTeen Freetime, More awesome then you FT Set, Gunmod's lights, and numenor's Scriptorium and Slot Enable and Color Enable and yes, I've tried deleting the Slot Enable mod but it was still the same. Thanks for any help, I spent an hour googling but it seemed no one had this problem. Title: Re: Counters wont "connect" Post by: socurious on 2008 July 06, 18:31:54 Did you leave the moveObects command on? Sometimes it'll crappify stuff if you don't make sue to turn it off. Make sure you turn off any boolprop commands, also. That'll crappify stuff too. I'm sure someone who's awesome will tell you better.
Title: Re: Counters wont "connect" Post by: Jess Maree on 2008 July 06, 18:34:25 Can we get some pics to see what's going on? Are you sure the counters you are using allow sinks and dishwashers to go in them?

Make sure you turn off any boolprop commands, also. That'll crappify stuff too. I'm sure someone who's awesome will tell you better. How can i check? I dont remember opening the console and putting in any commands. Is this stuff in the Userstartup.cheat? Can we get some pics to see what's going on? Are you sure the counters you are using allow sinks and dishwashers to go in them? I'll try to get some pics if needed, but these counters are maxis made ones and i've been through the entire Collection of counters and they all do the same thing. Thanks for answering, i wonder if this is the most bizzaire problem of the week. Title: Re: Counters wont "connect" Post by: Sagana on 2008 July 06, 21:09:04 If you're using a Userstartup cheat file, you should know what's in it. Go look. Otherwise type "moveobjects off" into the cheat window to make sure it's off.
It shouldn't matter if counters 'connect' or not to putting a dishwasher or the like in one. You should be able to place a single piece of counter and put a dishwasher in it. You can't? Title: Re: Counters wont "connect" Post by: Inge on 2008 July 06, 21:17:02 You should be able to place a single piece of counter and put a dishwasher in it. You can't? That would be another sign that move_objects is "on" Title: Re: Counters wont "connect" Post by: VampLena on 2008 July 06, 23:08:59 Thank you all, I went into the console and typed "Moveobjects off" and it started working properly. How can i keep it off? so i dont have to do it everytime i play?
As for my Userstartup.cheat all i have in it is #### GUNMOD #### ignoreErrors true boolProp UseShaders true boolProp specHighlights true boolProp vs2LoopsFunctional true floatProp geomBoneInfluenceThreshold 0.01 floatProp geomGeneratedTangentSpaceNormalLineLength 0.1 floatProp geomMorphTargetDeltaThreshold 0.001 floatProp geomPerBoneBoundBlendWeightThreshold 0.9 intProp geomGenerateTangentSpaceNormalLines 1 intProp geomMaxBoneInfluencesPerVertex 4 intProp geomMaxMorphTargetDeltasPerVertex 4 boolProp skipTangentsInVertexData false ##boolProp liveCameraConstraints false boolProp enumerateMultisampleLevels true boolProp floorAndWallNormalMapping true boolProp geomCheckGeomDataIntegrity false boolProp geomGenerateTangentSpaceSxT true boolProp gpuCompositing true boolProp bumpMapping true uintProp lightRadianceRangeCutoff 999999 ### I didnt put anything in it however, i guess some mods put that stuff in. Title: Re: Counters wont "connect" Post by: Sagana on 2008 July 06, 23:18:26 Move objects is like a light switch. When you turn it on, it stays on. When you turn it off, it stays off. To keep it off, turn it off again when you're done with it. :p
Looks like the user startup stuff is from something of Gunmod's - considering that sneaky title there at the top. I don't use the lighting system so I've no idea why that's necessary but it's a good idea to pay attention to what the hacks you use do. Title: Re: Counters wont "connect" Post by: Fat D on 2008 July 06, 23:26:09 what about globalstartup.cheat?
Title: Re: Counters wont "connect" Post by: notveryawesome on 2008 July 07, 08:47:43 AFAIK, putting the MoveObjects cheat in the .cheat files doesn't even work - only boolProp, intProp, etc cheats do.
Title: Re: Counters wont "connect" Post by: Emma on 2008 July 07, 08:59:41 Are you sure they are counters and not islands?
Title: Re: Counters wont "connect" Post by: VampLena on 2008 July 07, 18:56:33 Thanks again for the help and Im sure they are counters because after i typed in moveobjects off, they started Connecting and letting me put sinks, dishwashers etc into them.
Title: Re: Counters wont "connect" Post by: Jess Maree on 2008 July 08, 06:50:39 Even Islands connect to each other with moveobjects off. Do islands let you put sinks in them, or not? I know they don't let you put dishwashers and stuff in them.
Title: Re: Counters wont "connect" Post by: Emma on 2008 July 08, 08:48:00 No, you can't put a sink in an island.
Title: Re: Counters wont "connect" Post by: Inge on 2008 July 08, 09:29:39 I think she was definitely using normal counters, the real mystery is why moveobjects was on when the game started.
Title: Re: Counters wont "connect" Post by: Emma on 2008 July 08, 10:33:15 I blame user error. You can still use a dishwasher/compactor in a counter even if it isn't connected to another counter.
Title: Re: Counters wont "connect" Post by: Liveangel on 2008 July 08, 11:39:55 Even Islands connect to each other with moveobjects off. Yes, but they don't connect as corner counters, which was what I thought OP meant.Title: Re: Counters wont "connect" Post by: Emma on 2008 July 08, 12:40:41 They do if they are turned the right way.
Title: Re: Counters wont "connect" Post by: Zazazu on 2008 July 08, 15:59:08 I also have no problem placing compactors and dishwashers in counters with moveobjects on. I almost always furnish with the cheat active. Again, they have to be turned the right way.
Title: Re: Counters wont "connect" Post by: Inge on 2008 July 08, 20:49:47 I think if you use move_objects, the dishwasher etc will physically go into place but they don't "snap" into the counter.
Title: Re: Counters wont "connect" Post by: Roux on 2008 July 09, 23:29:40 They do if they are turned the right way. Really? I have noticed that some counters and islands connect just fine at a corner, but others (the most expensive base game ones... Chez Moi Country I think they are called) do not.On the rare occasions I use islands, I will try to position them like this, for example: I C C C I I think I've even tried: C C C C I I But the junction between I and C never seems to connect properly. What's infuriating is that sometimes a stove will connect when a counter won't. What am I doing wrong? Title: Re: Counters wont "connect" Post by: leaths on 2008 July 10, 01:13:41 I think it has to do with the walls. Most counters won't connect to islands if there is an adjacent wall or something. I dunno. I read a building tutorial on the exchange about it once, but I can't remember the particulars.
Title: Re: Counters wont "connect" Post by: gethane on 2008 July 10, 02:44:25 this is an illuminating thread. I've had the problem before of islands not connecting to counters when putting in dishwashers, etc, but had no idea move objects on would cause that.
Title: Re: Counters wont "connect" Post by: Liz on 2008 July 10, 03:30:25 Huh, I have never once coaxed an Island to connect to a Counter. Now I'm gonna be compelled to go futz around in my sims' kitchens and see if I can find a wall/Counter/Island config that'll allow for it.
Title: Re: Counters wont "connect" Post by: mommytotwo on 2008 July 10, 04:33:55 You can get islands to connect to counters if you place them like C C I I But that ends up looking stupid IMO, so I use and invisible island recolor to make it look seamless. I

Title: Re: Counters wont "connect" Post by: buddha pest on 2008 July 10, 08:20:16 Yeah, that doesn't look right :D I tend to use islands as islands-usually making a 2x2 square with 4 counters. I'd like to do this, but doesn't it prevent sims from being able to clean up plates if they so choose to eat off this island square? My sims always clean up plates from the "front" of an island counter. If they are joined as four in a square, there is no access to any if the "fronts." Something that has always irked me. Title: Re: Counters wont "connect" Post by: Emma on 2008 July 10, 08:32:31 No, they can still clean up plates. I tend to just put 1 barstool on each side though, and/or 2 on opposite sides so there is plenty of room to serve, clean up etc. I never put all 8 barstools there.
My usual island placement: C C I I C C I I C C or: C I I C C I I C or: C C I I I I C C Depends on how many sims I have in a household and whatever additional dining areas I have. You need fairly big kitchens though to place islands in a square and allow access from each side. Title: Re: Counters wont "connect" Post by: witch on 2008 July 10, 08:34:01 You need fairly big kitchens though to place islands in a square and allow access from each side. That's always irritated me. Title: Re: Counters wont "connect" Post by: Emma on 2008 July 10, 08:38:04 Yeah, me too. Usually though, when my sim families get lots of money I make huge houses with huge rooms, and I always give them a dining room. I can never fill the kitchen so sometimes I make a decorative island to fill with clutter.
In my poor families I usually give them the cheapo square dining table in the kitchen, or just stick 2 islands side by side and plonk barstools there. You can't put the islands next to a wall on either the right or left side though or they get the 'inaccessible' plate. You can put the front of the island alongside a wall though. Title: Re: Counters wont "connect" Post by: Roux on 2008 July 10, 16:48:08 Very interesting. Next time I get in a playing rut I'll have to experiment further.
I remember there was a counter set on MTS2 by Numenor and Marylou that had a lot more options, but I chucked it during one of my CC purges. I remember sometimes I felt there were too many options, and couldn't make up my mind how to configure things. (Reminds me of when I was a vegetarian and went to vegetarian restaurants. It would take me forever to decide what to order; there were just too many things to choose from. Or when I stopped being a vegetarian... "you mean, I can order anything?") Title: Re: Counters wont "connect" Post by: Emma on 2008 July 11, 06:05:21 Yeah, I had that set too, but TOO MANY COUNTERS! I do like Marylou's appliance fix though, so the trash compactor and dishwasher actually sit inside the counter rather than the sides of the appliances showing.
Title: Re: Counters wont "connect" Post by: Roux on 2008 July 11, 14:37:56 And the window height fix, so the sills don't intersect with the counters... :)
