Title: Beach Lot Problem
Post by: ShortyBoo on 2008 May 15, 13:50:10
I'm not entirely sure when this problem popped up, but I believe it started after Free Time. Anyway, all my beach lots look wrong. Like the moving water that's supposed to reach the sand doesn't even come close to the shore line and the edge of the water at the edge of the lot doesn't line up properly. Every beach lot I place does this. It doesn't seem to matter which size lot I use or which neighborhood I use. I've tried the templates for Twikkii Island, Bluewater Village and all the other lots that can be used for beach lots that came with BV as well as custom nhood templates. Anyone know what might be causing this or how I could fix it? As far as I know, I don't have any outdated hacks.

Do you have the Castaway objects the Pescado posted here? If so, you need to download corefuncs.package again, because he fixed this problem.

Have you installed cs_corefuncs for the Castaways content? If so, it might be outdated.

Bah Kazz-beat me to it :D

You could just pretend you have a reef that stops the waves breaking on the shore - nice calm lagoon look.  ;)

Anyway, perhaps more usefully, just in case the cs-corefuncs thing does not fix it, you may want to look at this thread - has several suggestions for fixing, including moving your waves portals.

I ended up with this problem in Desiderata, with and without the new corefuncs package. I even tried moving the portals. Is it just that the road is in the wrong place for the beach in Desiderata?

I think you could be right witch-I remember putting a beach lot down in Bluewater Village when I first got BV and it seemed there wasn't much 'sea' and more land than usual. Still couldn't build on the extra land though and I ended up deleting the lot without even playing it. Just looked strange. The picture posted looks the same as my beach lot did.

Ok, I do have all the CS objects including cs_corefuncs. I'll try redownloading and see if that fixes the problem. Thanks.

Oh, and while I'm on the topic of beach lots, is there any way to make the water on residential beach hoods look like the water in Twikkii Island? The color of the water there is more of a turquoise color and it doesn't just blend in with the sky at night like normal nhood beach lots. Is there a hack or something that can change all the water to look like Twikkii's water?

The Water in Twikkii is a special Object designed for Twikkii only.

Is that what the "Twikkii ocean bottom" (I think) neighborhood deco is?

Its a special mesh who makes the water look like in twikkii . I made the screenshot with a Camera mod he is taken outside the reachable area to display the object.

So the water can't look like that in other neighborhoods? Even with the Twiikkii Island template?

If you use a Twikkii template it would possible to use the Water but it is not in Catalog for neighborhood objects.

The red circle is where the placeholder for the water is.

I have SaraMK's hack to enable n'hood objects everywhere (from Peasantry), and the Twikki Ocean floor is available in my other 'hoods.  I haven't tried placing it because I like all my sub-hoods to have distinctive themes, but would it work in other 'hoods if it was available?  Or just mangle the terrain?

It would work in a Twikkii Template but has to be placed in the same spot like in the picture otherwise it would look odd. As i sayd before it is a special designed object only for the Twikkii Vacation Hood.

Aha!  I understand.  It has properties that only work with the contours of the Twikki terrain?  It wasn't too clear from the first pic what had gone wrong, but I get it now.  Thanks. :)

I got the updated cs_corefuncs and the water is coming up to the beach like normal now. The edge of the lot still looks strange, but I can live with that. Thanks for the help everyone.

You ought to take a look at this thread (http://www.moreawesomethanyou.com/smf/index.php/topic,10625.0.html). It will help you disguise the edges of your lots.
