You know the drill -- there are people out there who are using Milkshape as a tool of evil. Bring us evidence of this so that we may mock them. I'll start with a mesh I saw recently that inspired me to suggest this contest:

These body type projects have always bugged me. I know it sucks that most sims only have two body sizes -- not fat and fat. That doesn't mean, however, that I want to see meshes for every possible female body type classified by boob size. And if you're going to make an really large woman, at least make her proportional. Here, the skirt looks padded because her legs are so much skinnier that they should be. And I don't even know what to say about her breasts. Finally, a modeling hint: if you make a mesh with really huge hips, don't pose your model holding a purse in such a way that it pokes through her body.

It's more the butt area that amazes me rather than the tits. It looks quite horrid in-game too.

Also, what's up with the lighting? You don't even know what you're downloading. Maybe EA was trying to suggest this is skeezy dude clubwear. There are NO beer googles thick enough to make any sim hit on that.

I once heard a very good rule for drawing women. "If her breasts or buttcheeks resemble any type of fruit, you are doing it wrong."

This was dubbed the Sexy Fruits rule. That woman appears to be smuggling some of those rounder watermelons in her shirt and pants. FAIL!

Someone should have told Posh Spice Victoria Beckham this rule, pre-op.

Actually, that sorta looks like me when I was 6-7ish.  It only looks weird because the hips are so much wider than the waist. If the hips and waist were about even in size, that would make it look more real.

What the hell has happened to this poor woman's boobs? I mean, srsly, what is that? It looks like her skin has been carved to resemble a piece of clothing, or as if part of her coat is made out of human skin. Either way, the more I look at it, the more it creeps me out.

It's not an outfit. That's just a placeholder texture to demonstrate the alpha layers of the mesh. What it LOOKS like is some manner of alphable pants mesh. When you see a texture like that, which typically consists of one or two colors chosen often to clash as vividly as possible, this is generally a placeholder texture to show off parts of a mesh without the distraction of an actual outfit. Transparency of parts indicates that they are the alphable parts.

Even if it isn't to demonstrate the mesh, it still looks weird as anything. WTF is with the little leg apron?

I think it's an alphable pant leg, which can be alpha'ed out for shorter pants.

That's a perfectly good mesh.  It just looks odd because you're seing it raw rather than with a good texture.
Also, you fail at linking.

But they aren't, which is the point. Trying to give a young child a skinny waist and hips like an adult just looks freaky, and to me, is a bit creepy.

Okay, this one might not be applicable because it is a Maxis mesh converted for the Bodybuilder mesh, but it has seriously disturbed me. Of course, I wanted to share the nausea. Do note that the mesh is flawed for the texture advertised, however.

Looks fine to me. Those are most likely pointy-toed shoes, not feet. The female's seem a bit narrow, but that could just be the angle.

Well, it does say "elf" in the description. I suppose that is why they are pointy-toed.

Pointy toes could just be a medieval theme thing going on.

Although not truly awful, this mesh (http://www.modthesims2.com/showthread.php?t=72544) amuses me as it makes the sim appear like she is falling backwards. Or, that the skirt itself is causing her knees to buckle, while also acting as a barstool.

The feet look normal to me. However, the recolours on Neptunesuzy's site by Grizzelda (which Katze pictured) are horribly deformed. Oops! She broke it!

Now that you mention it, the shapes of the skirts are a little different, as are the waists.

Those boobs just don't live upstairs from that waist. It doesn't work. Not without some sort of flying buttress support system to keep the top half of the body from lolling over and snapping at the waist. But the part that completely throws the whole thing into horrorland is the fact that the mesh (as seen in the jeans, in particular) compounds its crimes by leaving such ample junk in the trunk, as well as the padding throughout the hips and upper thighs. By itself, the whole pelvis/thigh region is a fairly nice, voluptuous shape (if one ignores the slightly pointy buttcheeks), but then to expect us to believe that such a well-padded area is just south of such a ludicrously pinched waist is... well, it's ludicrous. And slightly horrifying, indeed.

The dress is from Final Fantasy 10, during Yuna's "wedding." However, Rose is infringing upon Square-Enix's rights by taking a design not of her own making and making people pay for it. The dress obviously would never work perfectly for the Sims, but she really could have done a lot better than that, especially for a pay mesh!

I've noticed most of Rose's clothes doing this. They look good in pictures, but my Sims tend to, you know, MOVE, so this becomes irrelevant.

That's it, the still pictures don't do the clothing justice.  I would suggest anyone to get that from the booty, and put it in game for the LOLs.  It's available in every category too.

Ohh! I want that as swimwear :P ::)  It annoys me when people put their stuff in every category available. It is usually deleted straight out of my game, unless I like it enough to bother changing the category. I hate underwear in my pj bin! >:( It annoys me.

That is annoying indeed. It makes me annoyed when dresses are in undies/pjs/swimwear/sports. Especially sports, actually. I still have one to delete out of there. I've recatted a load of Peggy/Rose outfits recently. At some point I may just give up and delete the entire folders. The clothes are not good enough for me to really want to keep them.

BANG! Exploded mesh! Seems like someone doesn't play fat people much! I had the pleasure of this happening <in game.> I thought my Sim was screwed, so I exited without saving and didn't take any screenshots  :( But then I thought about how  it looked like a mesh I once made  ;D and I checked it in CAS.

Gah! I was looking for that one to enter but didn't find it in time. My very favourite part of the mesh is that its creator has chosen to add, free of charge, a new joint for all your sims' leg-bending needs. Yeah, if you look just above the ankle you'll notice that there's, like, a redundant ankle a few inches up that also hinges and twists as your sim moves. It's wholly creepy. I kinda liked the outfit, but seeing my sims' legs bend at the shin was just too off-putting. Outfit deleted.

In rose's defence I might mention that that mesh was her first ever donation set.  It must be quite a few years ago, and a lot has happened with meshing tool since then.  Fut if she hasn't fixed it since, there's no excuse.
What I don't understand is why she didn't just clone it from a long dress in the first place.  Maxis sim dresses don't contain any legs that can poke through, and since that dress does not appear to be transparent at any point, that would work just fine.

I also hate it when creators stuff their clothes in every bin, and rose was especially heavy on that in her early days.  I've pretty much decided that all Body Shop designers are idiots, so I re-bin, re-categorise, re-age, townify, modify and compress everything before putting it in my game.

How does high heels work on sims?  They don't get any taller by wearing them, so those extra inches have to come out of somewhere.
IRL women wear high heels to make their calves look longer and shapelier.  For sims, do their calves actually get shorter?

The high heels are shaped from the heel of the foot. Manky. This is why I like the maxis mesh only stuff-the foot looks normal. You could have a gorgeous outfit and it is ruined by misshapen feet.

It's almost worth putting that outfit back in my game, just for the hypnotic horror of the Bendy-Shin Dance. Part of why it squicks me so much is that when I was 12 I actually broke my left leg in that exact spot and had the very special joy of seeing 1/4 of my shin veering off in a completely new and unprecedented direction. How did I break the leg? Fell out of a 2nd floor window. My coordination, let me show u it. Actually managed to land on my feet though. Briefly.

Can I vote now? The very first mesh has it for me. There is a lot of this eye-ball evil at Insim, and they love it! Egad, how can anyone stand to look at these meshes, let alone create them? I guess they're a kiss off to the "Booty Butt" syndrome that has become typical in some places. Can't stand ugliness no matter where it comes from.

I actually want to put the extra-joint-dress in my game after reading this. I don't really like the colour, but it has an extra joint! Do want! And, the sim looks cool when it's fat! Finally, you can get that bloated feeling in the Sims 2.

Actually, my mom was friends with a lady who really did have a similar build to this.  She wore an 'H' cup over a 32" waist. When she tried a new bra company, they didn't believe her about her measurements. They replied to her that it was impossible for her back to support the weight of those things. She stripped from the waist up, had her husband take a picture, and sent it to the company. They sent her the bras. I don't know about her butt as I was a little kid at the time. She bragged about her frontal aspects enough that I remember it well.

The part I was objecting to wasn't merely the size of the boobs; it was their situation. Especially considering the relative, snappable size of the waist, boobs of that size just *don't* sit up all perky like that without some flying buttresses to support the weight. Or at least some bamboo scaffolding.  ;)

Someone should make such a mesh, WITH the scaffolding.

I remember Lolo Ferarri had to walk around actually holding her huge boobs up. I suspect if she let go of them they would have settled about mid-thigh.

Why? It's just fat. It's not like she worked to get them that way. And at that size, they'd be flat and down to her knees without a bra. Speaking from experience...I'm well-endowed myself and my one gramma was an EE (should have been in an F).

And she's a bit of a sad case that one too.  She died, IIRC, by suffocating herself with her artificial boobs though I think there was something about drugs too - it might have been sleeping tablets rather than illegal drugs.

I think you're attributing a comment by an avid fan of the items to the creator. Plus it fits a niche. This would really work for a Captain Shakespeare sim.

The only mesh there is here is the shoe mesh with a nude mesh so you can use the shoes in milkshape, so the mesh isn't bad at all.

It's the um-- disturbing yet well-done textures that made you enter it. Good for those of us who needed another dunk in the eye bleach, but that's about all.

To be fair, some girls do develop pretty early, especially when you consider that the "child" stage seems to last from about age six to age twelve.  I think it's the wasp waists that make those clothes really disturbing.

Well, yeah. I developed at eight. But putting boobies on child meshes for a game is just asking for them to be used in pixellated child porn. There was a blog that I saw once but can't seem to find the link to that used these and similar clothing items on children and also featured mods that allowed adult male & child sex, along with the pics in all their glory.

Well, I can see how there would be a correlation between those meshes and that sort of nastiness, and it doesn't seem like the people downloading the clothes would usually be doing it for added realism.

I don't think the Grizzelda mesh is that bad, figure-wise...she's not voluptuous, she just has a little bit of a waist, which some girls do.  I think some child meshes are actually a little too shapeless, in fact.

I have several of those in my game and I LIKE THEM.
The second one looks great in the game.
I have none of the hand swallowing meshes, except for Moon dress, showcased earlier.

Hand-swallowing is pretty much inevitable with a certain type of skirt - specifically, most period dresses. Not saying that all of these are period dresses, but I'm not sure that it can be held against that child's long skirt, which probably is intended for a period mesh.

On the other hand, the palm-fronds dress is weird, and WTF is with that 'alien' dress?

Oh, I agree that many of the Parsimonious meshes look good in-game, especially with nice textures, but the hand-swallowing could become problematic for picture-taking and such, and that's why I included those particular meshes in my post. The frond and alien dresses are just weird, though (the meshes, that is). There's a reason why Maxis dress meshes are always skin-tight.

That "alien" dress is just made of WHAT. I mean... the skirt! It's bulbous! Clearly Parsimonious aliens have no fashion sense.

I wasn't necessarily making fun of the dresses, themselves, when I posted them. It was the wonky meshes (most of which were not made by Parsimonious) that I complained about. Parsimonious generally does a good job, even on their meshes, but the hand-swallowing is a particular peeve of mine, so I tend to NOT use outfits that are very voluminous.

Actually, it looks like you might not be able to bend anywhere below the waist. I'm surprised Bruno used that mesh; she's a good designer. Though I guess if the sim is just walking around you might not notice this problem since you can't see the feet. Liana, on the other hand, should have noticed.

But they should still be posted for educational purposes. That picture reminds me that I meant to post one of her models to the awful models thread. She has this habit of pulling the eyes up, pinching them together and then zombifying them. Attractive!

Got a question for the peanut gallery. I've just completed goopisation and taken screenshots - now I'm looking for an easy place to upload this monstrosity, in case anyone's stoned enough to want a copy. If it were just a couple hundred K I'd not stress it and just load it to my own space, but this puppy weighs in at a meaty 560K at rar's "Best" setting.

Yes, in her infinite wisdom, Rose has decided that this outfit should require not one, not two, but three completely separate sets of textures & alphas. One texture & alpha is for the heels of the boots. Yes, you read that right. For some insane reason, the HEELS of the BOOTS have their own tex & Alpha. Plus the 3rd one for... I'm not entirely sure. It's completely white. But I'm sure it's absolutely critical to the performance of this special little mesh.

That sweater at the waist is not actually "tied to" the pelvis' movements at all, so the slightest motion in the buttock region starts the skirt poking through the sweater. Of course, it's when the yoga begins that the mesh becomes truly, truly special.

(Oh, and it's a hand-swallower too. Yes, a miniskirt outfit that swallows its wearer's fingers. Adorable.)

So yeah, any suggestions on where I can post this half-Meg file?

Did you try compressorizing it? I recently was working on some stupid walls and my files ended up being 334kb. Ran them through the Compressorizer and they all ended up around 3-4kb instead.

Sadly, since the majority of the bits are image files, there was only so much this zesty little program could do, so instead of a 560K rar it's down to 505K. Definitely a big improvement but still a lot bigger than I'd ideally like to be hosting from my own webspace. Any other suggestions, guys?

SalixTree, I lurve your approach - totally compliments the Goopy look without being a copy. Yay, Emma gets two Gooptastic ensembles!

I know zero about meshing and am therefore completely ignorant of the correct terms to use, but I think the main problem with the mesh is that the tie-around cardy appears to move completely independently of the skirt (or more correctly perhaps, not move at all). So not only does that allow the skirt to poke through it at the slightest provocation; it's what so graciously provides the EZAccessFTW breeziness you look for in your athletic gear. And I'd dearly love to know why in the pink and frilly hell the heel of the boot requires its very own texture & alpha. Insanity.

You're right that the problem is with the independent cardigan (and skirt.) Most sims meshes don't have the parts that aren't visible (or shouldn't be visible.) So for this mesh, most creators would remove the upper thigh and butt and just attach the skirt to the upper thigh underneath the skirt. It looks ugly when the sim sits down but it's a good idea because it reduces the poly count and eliminates problems like this.

I've heard that Rose borrows/steals a lot of their meshes from the 3d modeling community (and Peggy does too), which would explain why the mesh isn't optimized for sims. It wouldn't be that difficult to do, though.

I thought a bit about this mesh and ended up confused. How is this possible? I didn't think Sim clothing actually had anything 'underneath' them, and that the clothes was the body. Are these meshes just some kind of shells put on top of the Sim? Because that would be a crazy polygon count having both the clothes and the body.

The skirt and "wrap" on that Rose mesh is alpha editable, it is sitting very slightly apart from the Sim. So if you alpha-blacked out the skirt part, the Sim's skin would show.

I see. Thank you for clearing that up. Is that the case with the first moon-dress too, then?

If I remember correctly, it only has one alpha channel, but I believe you could turn it off.


Actually, indeed, alpha-editable meshes do have a higher polycount because of their nature.

When we run out of category ideas we might want to just make a generic "Awful Finds" thread. I worry that recently created gems, such as  this one by Fee Essen (http://www.sims2-feeessen.de/include.php?path=content/download.php&contentid=1544&PHPKITSID=e86bea1f14337cb7b01476244358053c), are going unappreciated.

Or we could just repeat categories! More stuff is being made all the time y'know ;) The real challenge would be to find stuff that hadn't already been featured here.

Actually, just the other day I experienced similar issues with the base game skirts (the long ones, I think it's 3 of them, one of them is black with some zig-zag pattern in the front) they apparently lack a proper fat mesh too. I'd never seen it cause I rarely use separate tops+bottoms (cause the majority of the options suck, and when they don't suck you can't match them with anything)

Those skirts work fine for me on fat sims. Are you sure you don't have some CC overriding that mesh?

She's had to replace a few fattie meshes and one YA mesh because they exploded just that way.

Yeah, I do have some pregnancy meshes for several base game outfits, I (stupidly) assumed it wouldn't have anything to do with this. Ah, sticking your foot in your mouth, feels good! (Well, if you wash your feet that is :P)

I do recall an EAxis mesh exploding like that, though. Having no 'fat' state, in it's original released condition. I think it was an elder formal wear, the dress with the little fur thing around the shoulders? Think it's been fixed since, but, I haven't put elders in elder clothes forever, so I honestly don't know.
