Title: Default replacement neck issue
Post by: ChibyMethos on 2008 May 01, 19:07:02
(http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v61/chibimethos/Neckline.jpg)

As you can see, I have 2 sims here. For some reason, the female's neck and body seem to be rejecting the default replacements, but the male does not. This has been happening for a while, and it's really starting to bug me.  >:(

I've taken out the replacements, and yes, the problem goes away, but that's not the point. I'm just curious if anyone else is having this issue and can I make it go away.

I do have face replacements also, but I'm not sure if that would be a contributing factor.

I have all the EP and SP.

Something is probably corrupted in the female texture.
Where did you get the replacement?  Try re-downloading.

This is actually the 3rd replacement I've had the issue with. The first time it happened, I did have 2 of the same skin, but I removed the lot, and replaced them with more care.

I thought it might be the face replacements, but the only skin that has this issue is the defaults. Every other skin tone in my folder works just fine.  :-\

Can't really contribute (except that I'm also bummed by the skin from the back of the neck -a.k.a. the hair part- not matching with default skin replacements) but I had to say: that male sim? Yum!!

It's the same face as the female, just with the standard EAxis determined tweaks.

Who/where did you get said skins from? I'd report it to them.

I'm also annoyed by that.

Like I said, this is the 3rd set, from different people that I've had this issue with. As soon as I take them out, everythings fine.

I guess I'll have to take out the face replacements.  >:(

Do you have an nVidia card, and if so, are your pixel shaders still turned on?

I had a similar problem when I last turned shaders on briefly (to see if my new drivers were having any luck). Even if you don't have an nVidia card, it might be worth putting the line boolProp useshaders false into your userstartup.cheat file and seeing if it makes a difference.

Please indulge the stupid:  where exactly is the userstartup.cheat file?

Check your Sims2\Config folder.  userstartup.cheat is a text file (operates like a DOS .bat file).  If you alter it and save, make sure you save it as a text file, but ensure that it does not have ".txt" in the saved filename.

I'd do a double-check to make sure you don't have some other default replacement hanging about.  Make sure you check other places in your My Documents\The Sims 2\ directory, not just downloads.  Like SavedSims and the like.

I'd suggest scanning the entire My Documents\The Sims 2 folder with Delphy's Download Organizer (get it at ModtheSims2), if nothing else works.  Default replacements are categorized as such in the program...so if you sort by download type, any that you have should be easily identifiable.

That's my bet too, if it happens with different skins.  Same goes if you have some kind of "fix" that does something to the female skin.
Try taking out all other downloads than replacements and see if they work then.
If it does, you have a CC confilct.  If not, you have graphics issues.

I change my default replacememnt skintones ever so often and I have that problem turning up every once and awhile - but only with adult males, and the problem solves itself after a while. It's very strange.

Sorry, no help from me ;)

Thanks for the advice, guys. I'm working on it now.  :)

Well, I ran Delphy's cleaner about 4 times, I took out somethings, disabled a few others and then ran the clean installer just for a laugh. The problen still hasn't gone away. I'm still unsure where the

Sims2\Config folder

is. If it's the one I think it is, all that's in there is a file called "Broadcast", one called "userProps", which I opened but there is nothing that says userstartup.cheat-- and another file called "videocapture."

I play on a laptop, so I'm not really sure how to tell what my video card is. I'm not trying to be stupid, but I'm starting to get a little frustrated.  :(

You have to create userStartup cheat file and put it in the Config file, I don't believe one is there otherwise. If you do a search you should be able to find an example of what the file looks like or even one someone has attached to a post. Just be sure the file is saved as a .cheat file and not a .txt file.

Okay . . .  ???

Well, I hunted around online and this is what I found for my graphics card.

Graphics & Video Module: Intel GMA 950 Controller with 8MB~128MB dynamically allocated shared graphics memory

I hope that means something to sombody, because I'm totally confused.  ??? ???

It means you have the crapiest graphics controller available.  It's built-in to your PC, no doubt, and steals RAM from your main memory rather than having dedicated GPU RAM of its own.

If you have a desktop PC, seriously consider getting a good graphics card.  If you're playing on a laptop, you're pretty much hosed, short of replacing the laptop itself.

edited to put in the proper words, because English must have left me for a few moments while I was typing that first sentence....
