From what I'm reading it appears that using it to sew clothes does nothing so much as fill up your closet with really ugly unlockable maxis clothes.
Dammit, I was hoping it'd actually be cool. At least tell me my sims can sew what's already in the game if they so choose? Admittedly, the barefoot child clothing is pretty bad. One of the "classic" push-and-pull-to-open jobs that never quite tore right and bore the compression scars from your valiant struggle to rip into it.
