Title: BV clothes without the gay backpacks?
Post by: Winklesim on 2008 April 11, 02:43:51
G'day all,

I was just wondering if anyone had attempted to make the BV outfits minus the backpacks? Some of them aren't too hideous, but i just refuse to have my sims wandering around wearing backpacks that pass through the backs of chairs/beds etc...

I tried a google search for "BV clothes without gay backpacks" but suprisingly got no results   ::)

Ta, Winklesim.

Did you try searching for "BV clothes without Jelenedra backpacks"?

Not that it would have been any more successful ...

How are backpacks gay? I wasn't aware that they had any sexual preference. Mine swing every which way.

That would appear to be a negative. Actually, there's nothing special about the backpack outfits once you remove the backpacks. There's probably plenty of stuff that looks just like it.

Also, if you remove the backpacks, the teeshirts have a funny 'pinched' look around the waist.

Well yeah, but any mesh-modder trimming away the back-packery would be expected to tidy up the mesh after the butchery surgery alterations.

Perhaps what you need is a frontpack?

In my perverted neck of the woods such a device is known, more than somewhat misleadingly, as a bum-bag.

I don't see the point of wearing a backpack belt without the actual backpack.  Anyhow, the backpack is like a beacon in my game.  It screams "I am a townie and my mother dressed me in Maxiswear!"

This helps avoid confusion.

To support: I really, really hate it when people use the word 'gay' to describe something they dislike. It's an attempt to remove any responsibility of the complainer to actually identify what their problem is. So I agree rather strongly with Invisigoth: you are a fucking idiot.

Now, had you asked how to simply remove the backpacks on their own without that stupid negative adjective, I may have tried to see if I could hunt any down. As such, you can continue on your merry way doing as you please.

What's wrong with "stupid backpack" or "ugly backpack"? Why do you have to associate gay people with anything you find stupid? It makes YOU look like a stupid, uneducated, homophobic bigot.

Hmm. Why isn't it okay for a man to wear a fanny pack? They're very practical, especially for travelling. I'm not male, nor do I own a fanny pack, but I wouldn't scream "DORK!" at a man wearing one. They're not haute couture, but if men aren't allowed to carry a purse, they
have to make do sometimes.  ;)
I wonder what Stacy and Clinton from "What Not To Wear" would have to say about this...  :D

My choices of accessories are somewhat on the practical side.  I sometimes wear a "fanny pack" if I am out with my camera.  It allows me to keep hands free and have a place to store an extra lens, and some other gear without the inconvenience of rummaging through a backpack or shoulder-slung camera bag (which is sometimes too bulky).

It's a bugger if you're trying to get a pic of a deer, or other easily spooked animal and you have to make lots of extra movements to get the telephoto out.  It sort of advertises the situation to the deer, who, like the Masaii or Amish, do not particularly like their picture taken.  (Admittedly, they don't tend to stick a spear in you if you do take a picture, which I understand the Masaii might do).

But I digress.

Point is, if you use a backpack or fanny pack because it is the most practical choice, then fashion be damned.

Fanny packs are also good for teachers on a field trip who are trying to hold the slobbery, mucous-smeared hands of six children at a time.  It is quick and easy to extract bandaids, camera, bleach, cheerios, or handcuffs from the fanny pack.  Of course, teachers are normally at the forefront of fashionable dress, so this usage can either be seen as an abberation, or an endorsement of the ironic fashion-forwardness of the fanny pack.

My nana keeps all her stuff in hers-house keys, purse etc, then zips her coat up over it. Stops muggers, although I'm sure my nan would deck them if they messed with her! She is fearsome.

I've done that (fanny pack under jacket) when I was travelling alone in China.  Not that Chinese people were more likely to mug me than the New Yorkers back home, but I would be more screwed to be stranded in a foreign country where I don't speak the language, so I took more precautions.

Although gay guys are no more (perhaps less) inclined to wear backpacks than straight ones, I think there are more and more bags being produced these days on a continuum from rugged briefcase to messenger bag to outright purse, giving gay (and straight) men more options in carrying whatever they feel suits them.

I like to leave a decoy wallet in an easily accessible location, with a proximity trigger. Once the decoy wallet has been moved more than 100 yards from the real deal, BOOM. Someone's missing a hand now.

Pescado, you sound like my husband (although more in-your-face than he ever is). When we travel Spouse carries a cheap wallet with fake credit cards (the crap that comes in the mail, but looks real at first glance) a dollar for window dressing over a reasonable fold of toy-store play money...and an indelible dye capsule. Real wallet is in an inside, zipped pocket.

Oh, women look stupid with them as well. Women, however, generally carry purses and a fanny pack is not needed. A lot of men have this complex about carrying anything purselike. The invention of messenger bags has helped to curtail the fanny-pack craze.

As for me, my money is hidden in three different places, none of which are my purse. Well...I do have a couple bucks in the purse, but that's so that just in case I do ever get mugged, I have something to hand over. An old friend of mine's uncle was shot and killed by a mugger when he had nothing to give him.

I am familiar with this concept.  In Nairobi in the 1990s (probably still) there was a recommended amount to carry in a wallet for muggers to find, should you be unfortunate enough to meet one.  As crime was rising in the city, meeting a mugger was a reasonable probability, and muggers who found foreigners without some money were likely to kill or injure the offending victim.

The rule was, don't carry with you what you would not be able to lose without hardship, and don't carry less than X amount.  Chance of being mugged decreased if one went in company with 3-4 others.  If you went in a car to certain areas, chance of mugging decreased almost to zero, but there was an exponential rise in the likelihood of carjacking.

Well, you might want to bear in mind that in England a fanny is not your backside but a woman's 'undercarriage'.  I know that is a minimal consideration for most Americans (and quite right too) but every time this type of discussion comes up you must realise that all the English posters are indulging in fits of mad childish giggles.

I'm not male, nor do I own a fanny pack.

See, there you go, from my point of view you most certainly do.  For me, that statement is an oxymoron.

On a related note, I do miss the old days of Sims 1, when every Townie was named Randy. Oh, the laughs.

I keep my personal effects stashed all over my body. I carry my wallet in my hand (tis a big wallet), have my keys and iPod in my pocket and I stash any large notes in my bra. How many muggers have attempted to steal out of a woman's bra? Anyone who attempts it gets a kick in balls and a broken nose.

It was only a few months ago that I found out fanny just means backside in America, and that was only because I happened to see some Scottish woman talking about how it made her giggle on Jonathon Ross' show. Although personally it doesn't make me giggle because I'm too busy cringing. The word fanny reminds me too much of being nine years old and all the boys in my class thinking it was the most hilarious word ever and trying to force this poor girl to show them her's at lunchtimes. Mind you, unless I'm misremembering we refer to them as bum bags, which seem equally daft. I haven't seen anyone but my friend's dad wearing one since about 1995 though.

My impression was no, since there is better looking CC clothing of similar style out there, and, as Emma pointed out, "if you remove the backpacks, the teeshirts have a funny 'pinched' look around the waist", which makes a backpackless version look even more dorky.

I try not to say gay, but it's pretty hypocritical of me, since I have no problem calling someone a "cocksucker" or a "cuntlicker" when I'm pissed at them, which is pretty much the same thing but more explicit.

I haven't really found much similar looking clothing. I'd also like to see some backpackless outfits, minus the rude adjectives. I have no idea why they didn't think to make them an accessory instead of clothing. I'd very much like the hiker type clothes with the backpack as a separate item.

I actually don't mind the hiking clothes with backpacks.  I just don't like them as everyday wear in the main 'hood.  On holiday, they are fine.  It seems silly to wear them in the hotel restaurant, but then, you may not want them wearing hiking clothes there either.  I generally don't get fussed about it - the backpack just becomes an amusing part of dining-out-wear.  Mind you, I don't think I have ever dressed any of my playables in the hiking clothes.

Please note: Dress code is in effect.  Gentlemen must wear backpacks for dinner.  No swimwear is permitted in the dining room.

That's because two different sentiments are being expressed here: "Fruity" covers things that are in the manner of a homosexual. A quality judgement is not applied. "Gay" as applied to a negative assessment of worth derives from the same derivation as "sucks" and "blows". Also, Jelenedra is the new gay.

Have you considered fighting fire with fire? In high school, I had a similar issue with everything being called "Jelendra" and began laughing every time I heard someone say "that's SO Jelendra". When asked why I was laughing, I told them I'd never quite realized just how "Jelendra" THEY were. Usually shuts 'em up for at least a couple hours. If they continue, comments about how WELL they recognize "Jelendra" culture, etc follow. Like Pavlov's dogs, they eventually cut themselves off from the term around me. I don't care how they talk when I'm not there to hear it, but I do object to it when I'm chatting with them.
