Title: Anyone else frustrated with all the sitenames that start with "Sim"?
Post by: Syera on 2005 October 29, 17:22:27
Argh.  It never fails.  After awhile, I collect so many bookmarks, and upon trying to find a certain site I want to visit, it ends up looking like this:

SimThis
SimThat
SimSite
SimSite2
SimThisYetAgain
SimplyThis
SimplyThat
SimplyAnotherSimSite
SimplySomeSite
SimplySite

ARRRRRRGGGGGHHH!!!  I know these people think they are being SO cute/clever by starting their site's name with "Sim" or "Simply," but EVERYONE'S DOING IT!  It's absolutely a nightmare getting through your S links!

Am I the only one fed up with this?

It's a nuisance, but you can help yourself by sorting everything in your Favourites into proper alphabetical order.  I put things into a Sims2 folder so nothing else gets in the way!

So do I - and it STILL drives me crazy!

I suppose you could make a separate folder for your favourite sites that you go to a lot!

It is a pain when going thru favorites, but I have some (like MATY) that I visit often either in the links section or in a separate folder. Aactually, with having the site name start "sim", it was helpful to me when I was looking for sim content on the web.

Annoying, though, when you google for a particular site and you get a thousand and one entries that are NOT the one you want, and you have to scroll through a dozen pages to find it!

Lemme show you what mine look like...

Now that I look at it, I don't even have that many of them bookmarked at the moment.  Still, though, the percentage of S links is ridiculously high, and lemme tell you, going through the S section of any link directory site is an absolute nightmare.

Totally!  Wouldn't be so bad if they put all the sites that only do skins in a separate section.

Jesus Crised, Syerra, I play TS1, TS2, Uni and NL almost 4 years - and have only one column of favorites...:).

You don't have to visit them all at once: just subscribe, and ask to be informed about updates. Thus you can delete many of your favorites, and enter the sites through the e-mailed updates...:).

The main site for you is The Sims Showcase, which every now and then informs you about other sites' updates.

I lost all my favourites when my computer had to be upgraded, so I've had to start again, but already I need to weed some stuff out (like extinct sites for starters!)

Then I get unwanted e-mails stacked up in my mailbox.  Still pesky.

Give up downloading!  Quit the habit!  Get the anti-addiction patch!  Go on the wagon! ;D

Pfah.  I don't download that much, but there are some sites I just have to keep an eye on in the event that they put out something I just can't resist.  Like a fedora or something.

I've been annoyed by all the sites calling themselves SimSomething for years :). If you can be bothered, you could search the TSR forums for old posts by me - I think I made a post along the same lines as this back in 2003 ;).

Someone wanted advice for how to run a Sims site, and pretty much the first thing I said was "Don't call it SimSomething. At least call it Something Sims!". It must be a nightmare for dyslexics to keep them all straight. I like names that are unique, so I don't get muddled. I like names like Mermaid Cove, Cheap Frills, Trinkets + Treasures and barairo no jinsei (although at least 2 of those sites no longer exist).

However, they won't show up if you google!  Can't win really, can we?

See, now if you had complained about this BEFORE I made this site, I would totally have named it "SimSomething" to mock you.

Sites beginning Sim-something are better than other sites.  Take Simlogical for instance....

Hey, don't "touch" Inge - we love her...:) - especially JMP, who is "crazy" about her butt...:).

But yes - her site is better than other sites...:).

I'm thinking of running a site and calling it SIMple Home SIMprovement and SIMplicity SIM Designs of the SIM-Kind.

The "SimSomething" name phenomenon used to bug me more than it does now. Mainly because I have my SIMS favorites folder subcategorized into "Sims1 Downloads" (I can't bring myself to delete them, even though I no longer have the game on my computer), "Sims2 Downloads - General," "Sims2 Downloads - Objects Only" (and " - Skins Only"), "Hacks_Fixes," "Forums," "Tutorials," "Programs and Utilities," etc. There's some duplication between the various subcategories, but that only makes it easier for me to find exactly what I'm looking for.

My SIMS favorites are extremely well organized. The rest of my favorites, however, are in total chaos.  ;D

Ummm, Syera, honey, there is a fix for this--you really should've asked me!

You SIMply have the wrong sites bookmarked!  ;D

well I only have about 5 bookmarked.  For sim searching I use the b list. they have short descriptions and marks for skins, objects, Sims 1 or 2, etc.  It isn't always up to date but it's easier than clogging my favorites with sites I only visit on a downloading binge

Well I don't usually quote a reply to add a one word comment... but...

DITTO!

PS I just had a look - I still have an early fansite list on the interweb: http://homepages.ihug.co.nz/~witch3/Sims2Links_300405.htm (http://homepages.ihug.co.nz/~witch3/Sims2Links_300405.htm)
circa March '05 Edit: Nope, end of April

Must have been a while ago - there's no MATY!
