More Awesome Than You!

Have you ever been searching for a piece of CC to complement your ever-growing collection only to stumble upon a creator who used a model so wretchedly ugly or awful that you couldn't get past it to actually consider the CC you were looking for? I know I certainly have. This month's challenge is to submit pictures of horrifically fugly models. Not Sims themselves, but models used to promote other forms of CC (clothing, hair, makeup, etc.).

Rules are as usual, but for the record:

1). Submissions can only have been posted before this contest began.
2). Bonus points if they're from pay sites.
3a). Remember: no submitting actual Sims, since they're not technically models. I'm looking for the worst example of Sims used to actually try to promote user-created content.
3b). The exception to that rule is if the Sim itself is used to distribute custom content that isn't available elsewhere.

It looks like a cracked out version of Lindsay Lohan. LOL. I find it quite a shame that he puts effort in his photoshop, yet has such a fugly model.

It's not that this model is freakishly ugly.  What disturbs me, is rather that it's too obviously a self-sim and that she uses it for almost all her clothing.  Narcissism? Wish fulfillment ? You decide.

Also the middle-aged look of the face doesn't really match the hot 20 year old body.  Bit of a cognitive dissonance there.

Why do those give these lipstick models such ugly lips?  That's a demonstration of how I don't want my sims to look - it's certainly not going to persuade me to try the CC.

I think the dolls lip-pops one is supposed to look abnormal. It says "for your doll sims" and doll sims are just a style (OK, a creepy style) of making sims, like people who make anime sims with huge eyes and hair so spiky it impales all the neighbours.

I can't find any examples right now, so you'll have to take my word for it.

All right, this guy is just freaking me out. He has that "I wanna be Michael Jackson" nose thing going on, certainly, and the hair they're trying to sell us looks too pouffy for the face/body... Really, though, it's the model's body itself that's giving me the wiggins. TS1 "maskn" mesh? Teen or adult? Child's mesh stretched on a rack? WTF is going on with this guy?

The main problem with that sims's face is that the features are doll-like, while still being too small for the dang face-shape and head.  I get being stylized, but I think that one missed the boat.

Is the constantly-about-to-cry look supposed to be appealing in children? That's usually my cue to get as far away from them as possible.

If we follow Aggie's rules about looking for the worst example of Sims used to actually try to promote user-created content I think Oepu (photo's submission in #43) fits the bill more than any submission thus far. Even though I have several of Oepu's items in my downloads folder I did not even consider downloading those skintones because of the hideous models or even worse, the face replacement templates also available. Oepu's models always look depressed and the proportions are really off, it's like seeing Rumer Willis in Sim-form or something...   :P

The Sparkling Eyes model in page one (by natef005 at MTS2) is quite hideous mostly from the custom content on her (or him, if you catch my drift...), so I can't think of it as a truly fugly model, rather I would say it's fugly make-up. Same thing with Madame Ugly's entry of the "Movie Screen Forehead", the hair is terrible, but with a different hairstyle the model wouldn't be bad. On the other hand, Cevic's model (the other entry in #43) is truly disturbing.

Some of the others are not necessarily ugly, they are just realistic. I have actually seen real people that look like spimmigold's entry (#52) or the three kids in # 46.

There is only one entry that really made want to hurl and that was that dolls lip-pops atrocity in post # 57.  *shakes fist at Quinctia*

The real Alek Wek is actually gorgeous (or handsome, or striking, whichever adjective you prefer), and is not trying to appeal to Caucasian sensibilities with straightened hair or Porcelana fade creams. In fact, it is still unusual to see a runway model who is quite that dark-skinned. IIRC, she is also thin but not stick-like, which opens the doors for other non-traditional model types with a little junk in the trunk / a big badonkadonk / Sir Mix-A-Lot hiding in their shrubberies stalking them.

The Carla Niven version of Wek looks like someone attacked her with a can of white spray paint or a vat of cooking oil.

I normally don't notice or give a crap about models, but Wek is definitely interesting-looking and doesn't appear to be completely retarded. I think she makes (or designs or used to make/design) unusual high-end custom purses or something on the side and that's why I've even heard her speak.

Incidentally, I think PMBD has convinced me that Carla Niven is actually a guy. If you can handle 140 pages of ZOMG, MY EYES, THE GOGGLES DO NOTHING!!, there's a long thread all about Carla Niven's various horrors, both models and clothing. Hecubus wrote one of the funniest posts I ever saw about her Sim Charlie (a woman, BTW) and Carla Niven's Meatslab Dress. You might Brynne while reading it.

When I see misproportioned sims, I just want to draw guidelines on their faces and give them back, saying "this is where facial features should go!"  Of course, in this case, not only are the features too low, but the entire face is so small, giving us giraffe necks.

Yeah, it's obvious they're going for the anime/doll look, which I don't really have a problem with. When it's done well. Here, on the other hand... as you say, it's all about the proportions. A smaller face does *not* have to mean giraffe necks and movie screen foreheads. The mutant schoolgirls in question really do prevent me from checking out the clothing they're supposed to be "modeling" since I can't get past the horrible tragedy that clearly befell them on their trip through the birth canal.

I downloaded a sim who was essentially like those sims when I de-aged her to teen. I had to get rid of her, because no extent of re-designing her face made her in-proportion or pretty. She looked shocking.

I actually discovered those a while ago, those outfits, and really like them...and the reason that put me off them WAS the giraffed models. So it actually does work, ugly models as a deterrent.

I'm sure the lack of modeling on the skins (http://www.modthesims2.com/showthread.php?t=266996) helps with the fugly of the models...but if you're selling the quality of your textures, it might be best to pick a normally proportioned face and nice looking and textured hair along side it.

According to the creator, that skin is supposed to have freckles.  Where?  She's got big brown blotches on her cheeks (that look like a badly made blush), but no freckles.

Introducing: The Return of the Back Crack!

I've been meaning to submit these since the start. They were originally found by Giggy Gwill in the February contest (http://www.moreawesomethanyou.com/smf/index.php/topic,11002.msg312447.html#msg312447) for awful skins. They're also used as models for Sim underwear and I must say that the skin puts me off of even trying to find the CC.

This one's face structure is also highly questionable.

While this one, as well as the sick looking skin, looks as though the face has been "Simmerized (http://syllas.blogsome.com/2006/12/02/syllas-simmerizing-tutorial/)". Eurgh.

They were used by Sera Sims, now available at the graveyard.

They're probably wayyyy too faint and small on the texture to be noticeable on the skin (maybe even too small to really be rendered at the resolution the texture's saved at).  Since they're hand-painted skins, I'm sure I know what the big issue is with them, because I had it when I started learning to do CG stuff.  The shading is way too damn subtle to amount to shit.  You get up close to something, work on highlights and shadowing, and you're afraid to go too far.  And for the longest time, I never went far enough.  It's about as bad as dodge/burn abuse, just at the other end of the spectrum.

And jemjie, that model looks like a kid who's squished their face against a glass window.  I'm sure the skin isn't helping, but man...

*waves arm limply* I can see the freckles...no, seriously, I can. Just look at the tops of her cheeks, below her eyes and down until below the start of the dark blusher. There are dappled dots on her cheeks. So there are freckles!! ^^

I don't know how sera manages to make all her models look like something out of Sims 1.  I wonder if she just flattens the face completely and pastes a picture of the celebrity stright on.

I never downloaded skins or heads for the Sims 1-I thought they were all ugly. Downloaded plenty of object sets though!

I only played TS1 when I was younger, so I had no idea there was actually CC available. Hell, I don't think I was even on the internet much!

I downloaded CC for Sims 1. Townies suddenly spawned with irremovable helmets, sims ate the fun candy and kept trying to kiss total strangers (back when kissing made babies, so...yeah), blah blah blah..at least I found a fix for the 'Make Cakes' bug.

...and now I can't find the disks with all my Sims 1 crap. Dammit, I wanna play-y-y-y-y-y...

(Ever tried supporting a commune of eight sims without getting them jobs? In Sims 1? Now there's a challenge...)

Still, the Sims 1 model doesn't have a back crack, and she does have nostrils, and she's not Hitler. HOLY CRAP ARE THOSE INDIVDUAL FINGERS?

That kinda reminds me.  It seems  all the rage these days to create "blended" skin.  Has any one seen a tutorial that explain how to do this?

What a cruel joke, Strangel!  I was saying to myself "I love the Powerpuff Girls...even if it is elder wear and I don't use elder wear..."  :(  That person has a deceptive naming practice!

Fansee's (who by the way is a girl) models are overly cartoony but I don't know if I would say they're ugly... And actually I believe the middle one is supposed to be Fox Mulder from the X-Files... I could be wrong though :D

Seriously, promoted on the front page. WTF? Nevermind the faces which are all too small for the heads, the product being promoted, the skintone, is pushing these models to a whole new level of fug. I almost feel bad criticizing these because I'd never even dream of making my own, but I'd like to think if I ever failed at highlights and shadows as badly as this I'd keep them to myself.

I was thinking it looks like they've used the same model in those 3 images, just changed the ages.  Then I realised I couldn't tell if the 3rd image was male or female.  I'm thinking male because of the bare chest, but it seems to be wearing eyeshadow & lip gloss, so I'm really not sure.

Maybe they get honesty points for not trying to hide their (lack of) skillz? I also just noticed there's a very noticeable line on the neck (especially on the boy child). Quality workmanship.

Well, at least s/he got better at skinning. The Maxis Match skins are pretty good: I use them as defaults.
