Title: I fail hardcore attempting the BV patches Post by: vikitty on 2008 February 29, 22:10:38 So I feel like an ass.
Apparently you need the original EXE to apply the patches. Being the pirate I am, I downloaded BV, and then deleted the ISO once the no-CD crack was in place. (Telus likes to send my parents emails about illegal BT activity. Hurrrr.) I... did not make a backup. I am now kicking myself, believe me. So I decided to do the second patch before getting FT installed (no permaplat for pets? SIGN ME UP!) and naturally I get this: "Error during installation. YOU FAIL. You may need to uninstall and reinstall BV. Please make sure you backup your saved games first." This pops up as soon as it hits "Objects/objects.package". Which I have never touched before. :'( So am I royally fucked now? GCW has the no-CD cracks for the second patch, but I'm assuming it involves more than that since the patches update objects.package, etc. Or should I resort to begging someone who still has the original EXE from the disc/ISO to have pity on me? I learned my lesson. I FAIL. Title: Re: I fail hardcore attempting the BV patches Post by: BastDawn on 2008 February 29, 22:32:56 I'll send you a PM. :)

My hunch was right though -- it's objects.package that's borked. It whines at me to uninstall and reinstall. I might be able to pull that off since I still have Bon Voyage showing up in my EA Download Manager. (Got fed up with all the waiting which is why I went and pirated it, ditto seasons) but if not, eh, no big loss I guess. Don't play vacations much. Wish me luck. Title: Re: I fail hardcore attempting the BV patches Post by: jsalemi on 2008 February 29, 22:59:22 Did you make objects.package read-only? That'll make the patch fail.
Title: Re: I fail hardcore attempting the BV patches Post by: vikitty on 2008 March 01, 00:54:00 Does that ever happen on its own?
I checked C:\Program Files\EA GAMES\The Sims 2 Bon Voyage\TSData\Res\Objects\objects.package (which I would imagine would be the one being patched!) and "red-only" is unchecked. I'll remember that, though. Title: Re: I fail hardcore attempting the BV patches Post by: jsalemi on 2008 March 01, 02:40:14 No you'd have to do it yourself, and the reason to make it read-only is to prevent it from getting changed by a mal-formed hack, mod or something.
