Title: Starter Homes under §20k
Post by: witch on 2007 December 28, 04:40:26
I was just doing a bit of hard drive tidying, when I came across these lots I hadn't put up for download. They have all the bare essentials a sim needs to get started.

You can see all starter homes here. (http://laverwinklesims.com/index.php?board=19.0)

Or you can go and get just the one you like.

Rosy Dawn
- built for the Indian couple who came with one of the EPs. It has rosy colours to give warmth and light.

Check out Laverwinkle sims for more starter homes, from my Crystal Collection we segue through New Orleans, courtesy of Reggikko, right to the English countryside and urban areas via Emma. We have all bases covered. :P Your base are belong to us. :D

I did a poll on Laverwinkle when I first started, it seems most people really like family size starter homes.

I like family size starter houses mainly because once I move a sim into a lot I don't like moving them to a different house. I don't generally like doing that much building work either, so don't like having a small 1 bed house then expanding it to fit the needs of a larger family.

Then again I'm probably going to have to making some houses myself anyway due to no20khandouts my Uni sims often come out pretty broke, and it is difficult to find that under 2k house range...

It's called a sofa and a fridge.

I'm also one of those people who don't like to move sims once they're in a house, so I look for houses that have at least a couple of bedrooms. However, I still need smaller homes for sims who will either stay single or who will move into their mate's house once they marry.

That's why I try not to build on the smallest lots available. Over time sims might want gardens, swimming pools, car parks etc. I don't like to move them either but also don't want to be too cramped for space.

Cosy Cottage is exactly what I've been looking for.

Thanks Witch.

*Emma *hearts* witchypoofs starter houses.

The crystal starters are especially gorgeous and are present for all my new hoods.

What's your latest EP? Please don't say BV, I want these in my hood :)

Sorry mate, BV it is. The crystal set are from way back though, you might find something there you like. Alternatively, Regg and Emma make more the sort of cottage like the 3rd one in my post. Emma does lovely suburban type English homes and Regg has some cool New Orleans lots. In one of my hoods I had a French quarter, purely from Regg's lots.

Yes!
More houses for me to download. Since my building skills are really bad. :P

I downloaded all of your houses, Witch. I thought I might squeeze all of my appreciation for them into one message, so here it goes:

Thanks for these; they're great. I desperately need small houses for my game since I seem to suck so badly at making houses that are both affordable, functional and aesthetically pleasing. You've done a fantastic job, and I appreciate having lots like these available for download.

Since my hodge-podge of EPs generally means that I can't download anybody's houses (unless they are just base-game compatible (thanks Emma  :) ), I generally use pics of people's houses as models for my own building.  Other than that, aesthetics be damned.

Mind you, my squalid beach hut for BV was not too bad, and is actually transferable between flat beach hoods.
/me makes note to check out witch's starters

Thanks Aggie, I appreciate you taking the time to tell me. It also inspires me to make another batch of starters.

I did have up to Seasons on the laptop but have to keep playing only small families, so I've decided to just install the base game on that and use it for building clean Maxis lots. Starters are a challenge to do in their own way and half the fun is redecorating them as the sims can afford it. It's like buying a do-upper house and renovating and expanding.

Jolrei, we don't have just lots at Laverwinkle, Regg's son Dylan has created a replacement vamp skin which is much nicer than the Maxis one, plus nice subtle makeup and much, much more.

/shameless plug

I would, but I don't want to risk "ruining" your lovely site by my mere presence.

So, just visit as guest.  Don't have to register to see the goodies.  I haven't registered (mainly because I don't have time at present to devote to more forums), but I like to go browse through the lots available.

Oh and like Jolrei said-you can just lurk over there, all the goodies are available for everyone.

I've tried all three of these and Cosy Cottage is my favourite - but all are playable. I'm particularly fond of the layout of Rosy Dawn - there's a lot of options for modification and expansion.
