Title: Has any one else notice this.
Post by: Meek_Monkey on 2005 October 17, 02:50:10
I decide to do the big no no and started the down load families from certin places and I created a hood especilly for then and I went to the hood to place their lots and no lots showed with the down loaded families at all. well I was disappointed. I later went to the clean install and opened downloads folder and can across alot of empty packages. So I think they were the missing people and the missing houses as well I cant seem to get them to show up.

I remember reading somewhere that you can't use the clean installer to install a house with a family in it.  I'd downloaded one, and it had installed just the house, no people, so I tried installing it the old fashioned way and the people showed up.  And I also had some with just the empty packages, too.

Maybe you need to deactivate the Clean Installer until you have installed these lots?   Even though you use the Maxis installer, maybe the Clean Installer is still cleaning stuff up?

Or, if you have access to another copy of the game on another computer that doesn't have the Clean Installer installed, you could install them on that, find the files you need for the house and copy them all to the main game.  (Really only feasible if your other game is vanilla, and therefore easy to find extra files.)

I had uninstalled the clean installer and then installed the houses that had families in them and still none. So I dont think it is the clean installer.

Have you tried redownloading the houses after you uninstalled the Clean Installer?

I think that sometimes downloads getting messed up or corrupted and turn to empty packages. I have noticed that times when I got empty packages, I redownloaded the file and the next time I downloaded it the packages weren't empty. I guess it's just one of those wierd things.  ???

Happens frequently at some sites.  TSR springs to mind!

I think it possibly occurs when about five hundred people are all trying to download the same files!

I despise Steve and his moderator flunkies but I like some of the creators there, even if they are allowing themselves to be prostituted out by Steve the pimp, and I am a total download whore so yes, I am coming out of the closet and admitting to downloading a whole mess of crap from them.

I haven't given them a cent though and don't intent to.

A lot of the creators there are available at other sites too.  I just think it's a pity that creators like STPCarly have gone there when they must have had other options.

Yeah but most of them people set up themselves for themselves or their friends only. And then there are the ones that are on the surface free sites, but make you make a "donation" to get anything good.  ::)

TSR is easy though, they have everything all set up. All you do is upload. And they skulk around various sims sites and private message people with secret offers to try and snatch them away. From what I've heard, first they offer you a free membership and if you turn that down then they offer you money. Most people don't turn that down but a I know of at least a few of the more reputable in the community who have.

Ah, that's more like it, you're actually socking it to them then. People who download without caving into subscribing must annoy the hell out of people like Steve and his ilk. Go Motoki :D

Not really. I somehow imagine him sitting on a lounge chair in the French Riveria drinking a Mai Tai. He's raking in so much money I doubt he cares. I think they just have the free rotations to improve their image.  ::)

But I figure hell, I might as well use their bandwidth if it doesn't cost me. And I won't like, I'm addicted to downloading custom content.  ;D

Well, SimFreaks2 is also a paysite, but Heather offers facilities to all good creators, and the site has ethics and a philosophy which I do happen to agree with.  Moreover, the site keeps records of what you've bought, so if at any time you lose your downloads, then all you need to do is redownload.

Oh, and Motoki, in case you wondered, there are some freebies available there.
