Gunmod's camera mod (and variations on it) will do what you want: http://www.modthesims2.com/showthread.php?t=97642

Step 3: Get promoted until it is unlocked

I meant the phrase
Quote

The friend says even if she hangs it on the wall and cancels the action, that it still gets sold.

You pick up the picture with the hand tool in buy mode. Its small but you can still grab it. Move it to a wall and then you have it.

Photos are not individual files, but are stored as part of the lot. Open the lot in SimPE and see if you can extract the graphics.

Here's info someone posted when I asked this question:

1. Find the lot package file that contains the information about the lot where the sim-created piece of art resides. For example, C:\Documents and Settings\YOURUSERNAME\My Documents\EA Games\EA Games\The Sims 2\Neighborhoods\N001\Lots\N001_Lot47.package. This can be an easy or a difficult task, depending on how many lots exist in that neighborhood.

2. Once you find and load the correct lot into SimPE, click on "Texture Image" in the Resource Tree. This should produce a list of textures that are used for that particular lot. Look for one with a name that begins with, "#0x6f" and/or contains "!painting_". Eventually, you should be able to find the work of art in that list of textures. If your Plugin View window is open in SimPE, you should be able to see what they look like.

3. In the Plugin View window, right-click on the texture image and select, "Export...," and then save it as a PNG file. Save the file wherever you can easily find it later.

My tip for finding a particular lot - go into the game and play the lot you're looking for briefly, then save.  Now go to the Lots folder and sort by date modified.  The newest one is the one you want.

If you use the cheat boolprop ShowLotPackageFilename true the filename of a lot is shown on the neighbourhood screen.

Oh, fabulous!  Thanks for sharing that tip!

I actually lost a lot of photos when I installed Pets, so I'll be working on this soon.

You are going to have to give more information. Maybe it's just me but I have no idea what you are talking about. Do you mean it automatically sells after the sim takes it?

Exactly.  There is no way to prevent the photo from being sold, including hanging it on the wall.

The only thing I can think of is if your fiend has some kind of hack that would cause this. Has he/she tried playing in a vanilla game?
