My townies have zero interest in anything. I added them in using SimPE. I remembered to press commit with every sim. I saved the package before exiting. But strangely while playing the game, I notice they still have zero interest! I used Merola's Mind Control Mirror to peek. I know I am doing the right thing with SimPE because I've also checked the "have phone" option and in the game they all have phones now. It's just the interest still being zero!
After checking with SimPE again, their interests are there, plain in my face! Then why didn't the game knows it?! How do I fix this, it's driving me crazy! Thanks in advance!

It's weird, I have no idea why it happens . Anyway, try this: while in game enable good ol' testing cheats, then select a townie, open its interests and manually drag the bar clicking with mouse.

I can't stand it anymore! The more I play the more problems I find with my Sims2. The internet is terribly slow because of the Taiwan earthquake. I can't find any websites that will tell me how to work with the cheat. Sorry to bother ya'll again here!
I can't make the cheat work. My understanding is to just type in the cheat, then click on the sim, and just click on the interest to add. But it didn't work. How do I actually achieve this? I know I've read it before here, but I can't find the thread.
I've found another thing. I find if I play family A, then play family B, family A will reset themselves. GAAH!! what is wrong with my sims?!

in order to adjust the interests and such, the cheat must be entered BEFORE entering the lot.

ok, so I can now manually add in interests for the stupid stupid townies. And I've managed to find something bout their resetting. Did some tests, found that everytime I save my game, the inactive lots and sims reset. The lot I am playing while saving will not be affected. Which means everytime I save, the stupid stupid townies will have zero interest again and in the other lots, the sims will be stupidly standing around, fully reset, with full energy.
I've managed to narrow the stupid stupid townies with zero interest problem down to a few familys, Bendetts and some of the new stupid stupid downtownies. Do you suppose if it I add them to a new family, the problem will be fixed? Like deleting the Bendett family after the stupid stupid townies are all put into a new family call the Stupid family? Seems like a huge project, just hope it's worth it.

No, don't mess with the default families (all in the FFF range) other than by possibly renaming them. I always rename my Townies to Townies, DownTownies to DownTownies, etc.. And seem to have to redo this with each new XP :/

Don't touch those families, as Jordie said; they're not "normal" families, playables. The resetting thing is weird, are you sure that there's no hack conflict involved? Try disabling custom content or, better, moving your Download folder out.

Hmm...then I shan't move them then. could a noCD crack have done this? by custom content, do you mean only hacks? do clothes and hair all count?

No CD cracks alter the game code in unpredictable ways, so quite possibly. Do not use these cracks, use a mini-image instead.
CC = hacks, but the top dress disaster has taught us that even some meshes may cause problems.

The stupid dress mesh that caused game crashes. It was still being spread through the Exchange before they finally shut it down.

Blimey, I have been out of the loop. Do you mean they shut down the exchange because of a dress mesh? I rarely go to the EA sims site.

No. They did temporarily shut down the Exchange, and the bad mesh was (and presumably is) being spread there, but I have no evidence the two are related, and doubt it in fact.
I was referring to the fact that a mesh which is known to crash the game and was pulled from the original download place (after long debate) still spread like a cancer through the largest download place available, since EA flat-out refuses to take any responsibility for custom content despite their wording in the EULA.

You'd think the creator of the mesh would have noticed the mesh crashing their own game...
You'd think it wouldn't be that hard for EA to do a database search for one file and pull it...
Mind you, it would probably be publicists that run the web page, not game coders or anyone with a bit of nouse.
Don't suppose you have the name of the mesh in case I come across it?

can you guys access the Sims2 website? Mine is RREEEEALLY slow. If it's only me, then I guess it's the earthquake thing...
can anyone teach me how to start boolprop automatically everytime i run the game? i have a vague idea of putting it in the command line or something.
thanks for everyone's advice here too!

"start boolprop"? Ugh. This is not the BBS. Boolprop = Boolean property, a property which takes either TRUE (yes/1) or FALSE (no/0). There are hundreds of these in TS2. Only the ignorant sheeple uses the term "woolprop" for the Boolean property 'testingcheatsenabled'.
You can automatically enable the testing cheats by placing the line in your userstartup.cheat file. Create this file in your Sims2 config folder (My Docs\EA Games\The Sims 2\config).

Just in case Jordi didn't make it clear... Make a text file and name it userstartup.cheatType in the text file: boolprop testingCheatsEnabled trueThen put the text file in: My Docs\EA Games\The Sims 2\configGood luck and don't be afraid to ask questions, it's the only way to find stuff out. PS The name of this thing is debug mode

I'm the sucker who has to work the newyears this year, so the 30th, 31st, and today I'm working 07:00-16:00h. At least it's from home. Of course because of the fireworks I could not get any sleep until 03:00h this night. I'm at my third litre of coffee.
At least nobody is calling in.
