THANKS THIS IS GREAT

Before I choose a BitTorrent client, I wondered if any of you could recommend something that's relatively easy or intuitive to use for beginners?

Many thanks

Azureus is a popular one that has a good FAQ and wiki associated with it.

I did have this in mind as it's so compact.

Azureus seems to be very popular, but I just wondered how easy it is to use for a noob like me?

Azureus is kind of a memory hog though, but it's pretty easy to use and has lots of features. For my older, crappier machine I use BitTornado.

I learned how to use Azureus by stumbling with it, so you shouldn't need instructions or anything.

Yeah, I know most things are fairly intuitive, it's just a bit daunting at first.  I'm a worry wort at the best of times, I usually end up thinking "what was I so worried for" but that's just me, over cautious I guess!

I've not come accross that client yet, I'll "goggle" it and see what I can find out about it.

It's built in to my web browser, so I mostly just use Opera. Occasionally Azureus.

If you do wish to give it a go, don't be mislead by the sites, either charging, or asking for signup.  free download and support site.

For the bit torrent protocol, I recommend Azureus or uTorrent.
Here is an article from Wired News reviewing the best stand-alone clients.
http://www.wired.com/news/technology/0,71979-0.html

There is a slight attack at Azureus for the Java requirement leading to the heavy resource usage.
Although it is worth mentioning that most modern peak systems are quite capable of managing this.
Overall, it's a sacrifice for cross-platform support and extensive support features.

I would test a few of the clients and go with what works best for you.

Personally I stick with BitTornado. No fancy platforms or jumping through hoops.

I tried Azureus (along with one or two others) and although I like the way you can pick to download one file out of a batch torrent, I wouldn't use it otherwise. I have it installed on my laptop for that use.

Azureus is good.  I use BitComet but it's probably not the best choice for beginners.

My hubby is using utorrent, since he doesn't like how Azureus is such a resource hog. He said it's easy to use, and he'd recommend it for a newbie. I think he's tried just about every client out there, and this is the one he's decided is the best for him.

I like µTorrent.  It's compact and easy to use.   Smiley  I've also tried Azureus and a couple other obscure ones.

I use µTorrent since it has a tiny memory footprint, fast startup, doesn't require an installer, and only takes up 250KB of space.  I've tried Azureus and BitComet and the past, Azureus wasn't terrible but it booted up slow, had a large memory footprint, and I couldn't find a way to have it boot up on startup.  BitComet seemed to be faster but it seemed to take a bigger memory footprint than Azureus and it doesn't seem to have a way to control piece priority like Azureus and µTorrent have.

It's too bad µTorrent is Windows only, but you can run it in Linux via Wine.

BitComet and a Firefox Torrent plugin to search for certain torrents.

Azureus crashed far too often on my machine.
