downloading new sc4 terrains?

Well i am on the quest for the perfect hood terrain. I keep finding ones that use all of the space but make the city block so large that only 5x5 lots even semi look decent. Can everyone list there favorite links for terrains. I usually love using medium lots and small lots instead of large ones.

lol yes blue i love yours they are the perfect deminsion for the streets but i would like alittle more streets with the same deminsion.

Also i would love a hood that had one are more small areas serpated like mini subdivisions. I am trying to get my simcity to work but it seems to being a pain in the ass and wont load up grumbles.

Ok i am trying to do it myself I got simcity 4 working. I haven't done this in a while. How many squares in simcity equals one square in sims 2 lol

the sc4 lots translate like this in s2:

SC4 S2
1x1 3x3
1x3 3x7
2x2 5x5
4x4 9x9

It's best to map it out on graph paper if you want something specific.  I've got a request for a specific terrain and that's what I'm going to have to do (which is why I've been putting it off all weekend lol).

okay, this is a little off topic, but maybe you guys can help me out on this. Is there anything special you have to do to make bridges show up? Whenever I make a sc4 terrain with bridges, I load it into ts2 and there are no bridges to be seen.

I hate bridges.  There's only 1 kind of bridge that shows up and it's even a little iffy at times - I think it's called Level Road.  It's mentioned in the tutorial linked.

I'll check out the tutorial. I think I used the default bridge in my terrains, I'm not sure if thats the right one or not. Thanks for the link.

I think I've only ever used the road going over water and back onto land to make bridges.  I don't even know if they worked, I've spent a lot of time just playing around and only ever checked a few in TS2 to see how they looked.

I like your terrains too, gethane, but they're a little big for me to play comfortably (only for a couple more weeks though  ).  One thing, while you're here, I was wondering about was the PNG files.  Did you ever attach all the proper PNG files to see the neighbourhood properly?

Cool beans.  I had downloaded them here, and then I saw them on MTS2 and I think TSR?  Anyway, I didn't re-download them but I do still have them and when I get my new comp I'll see how they work out.

Ok i hit a road block i am designing this hood to have a few functional areas. First uperclass bigger homes section_on top of the mountain(1). Second a middle class section(2) Third a isolated island for loner sims (3) and then i have areas 4 5 and 6. I would like to have a small commerce area as this is the main hood. Something with a few stores etc. Then a apartment community where only singles live and another smaller one for newlyweds. The last apartment community would be more trashy community (slums for the rif raf). There will also be two lovers parks.Two community pools. Two playgrounds. i need help figuring out how to place the final communities in the areas 4, 5 and 6 anyone wishing to help feel free.

I might want to also mention this hood was designed for smaller lots(could accomidate medium lots). and Medium to small community lots

Wow, a huge neighborhood!  It'd choke my poor computer unfortunately.  For the commerce area I tend to like the little lots like Wolfsim's Stone Collection at MTS2 and they fit on the smallest, PLUS she has them built so that the fronts all line up.  So a line of 1-tile stretches in SC4 would work for that.  I also have tried to make them in a square with a neighborhood dec as the center but I can never get it to all fit right.

Actually i tested it on my hubby's laptop and it flows very well. I think i am going to work on a smaller version later. But how is my layout looking?

Aren't a lot of those roads going to be unusable because they're on a slope? I guess you could install the slope hack, but building might be pretty hard anyway, and if you plunk pre-made houses the roads might get deformed.




I also got fed up with not finding the "right" terrains and finally learned how to make my own. All of mine have just one feature: they're all 100% flat.

The roads that are going up the mountain are ment to be just that. Roads. Not "streets". As in where houses are put. More for decoration than anything else. The Roads at top are flat as are 99% of the roads at bottom. I got in a zero depth to make sure they are flat or have very very minor rolling floor.
