Where does that come from anyway ("in soviet russia, bathroom uses you")? I always just thought it was a Pescado thing, but recently I was reading a blog, and I came across "In Soviet Russia, blog reads you!" Clearly this is a more widespread cultural thing. Anyone care to enlighten me?

Heh, there's some anti-smoking campaign with cute dolls that have Anime eyes doing gross things. Anyway, they put up a big billboard in downtown Seattle with a doll eating a dead rat with the caption "Cigarettes smoke you!"

I believe the "joke" originated with comedian Yakov Smirnnoff. Read more at http://www.knowledgerush.com/kr/encyclopedia/Yakov_Smirnov/

Pescado copies stuff from a lot of places. You'll find a lot of stuff he says if you visit Homestarrunner.com

Pretty much everything Pescado says is a parody of something else.

Hehe....or someone else. I don't know why, but Pescado's demeanour reminds me of Gregory House (T.V. show starring Hugh Laurie for the uninitiated) for some strange reason

It's actually older than that, but that's the guy who made the format popular.

Has he hooked up with his ex-gf yet? I haven't watched the recent episodes. It's actually older than that, but that's the guy who made the format popular.
Well then, care to enlighten us JM?

I think it has to do with the lack of free will in Soviet Russia, where everything you did was scheduled by the government and you just had to obey. Bloated in a Cold War fashion of course. Or something like that.

I'm pretty sure that's what it refers to, but I'm really more curious about the style of reversing the subjects in a sentence, and then prefacing it by "In Soviet Russia..." - where does that originate from?

I'd dispute the factual accuracy of the Uncyclopedia link. Though that's the point...And they have a lot of Russian reversals I'd never thought about...IN SOVIET RUSSIA, POST EDITS YOU!: Oh, and the Wikipedia link is a redirect to the page on Yakov Smirnoff, which, according to Pescado, is not the origin of the joke. And wasn't that what people were trying to find out?
