I don't know if this is possible, obviously, or I wouldn't ask here. Is there a hack, or is one even possible that would change the way sims can watch tv? I hate that sims can ONLY watch tv from a couch or chair that's exacty parallel to the tv. It really limits living room arrangements.
And an aside, is there a hack that makes people not "serve" food on residental lots like the crammyboy community no serve hack for community lots?

The only 'hacked' object I can think of that restricts sims serving food on a residential lot is Inge's no autonomy fridge found at www.simlogical.com under the downloads section.

Am I right in thinking you'd like the Sims to just put down the serving plate and let other sims serve themselves?
There is a long way round that, and that is to have a dining table hacked to not allow food serving.

Also, if you use a one-tile dining table and put one of those little votive candles that came with NL (that show up in the lighting section I think) on it, sims won't serve the food. They just put it on the counter.
Bouquets from dates also work instead of the candle thing. There are probably other things that work too.
The down side being that you'd always have to use only one-tiled tables.
-Edit-
Actually, no, you could use two or three-tiled tables, as long as you put one of those objects on each tile of the table. Brain fart.

Aha! That explains why in one house whoever serves dinner always puts the food on the counter instead of putting plates on the table -- I've got two candles on the table! Never made that connection -- thanks!

Thanks for that info! I had noticed in one little house that the people always just left the food on the counter and I really do prefer that (sims 1 style serve). Now I know why and can reproduce that.

You don't need a hack to change the way they view, actually. If a sim is already sitting, they will not get up to turn the tv on, as long as the screen is viewable from where they are. They will also watch tv while relaxing in bed if there is one available. I found that out by accident when I made a motel lot. I took a screenshot for you so you could see. http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y249/necrobabe/TV.jpgI wanted to have the walls up, but the rooms are too small for that.

They'll actually watch TV in bed if the TV is facing the completely opposite way!
And if you use the diagonal cheat for your sofas, they will still watch the TV, even though that is on a straight wall. Not sure, though, if both diagonals count, or just one.

Do you both mean that after sims start to watch TV, you can change the TV's angle and they will continue to watch? They don't sit down on a diagonal couch to watch on their own, do they?

Nope, the tv is at an angle already.

Well, as far as I remember, if the sofas are at an angle, they'll still sit in them and watch TV.

I haven't been able to get it to work for me. They will stand in front of the TV when there are two perfectly empty (at an angle) couches right beside them.

I think you need to get them to sit-then click on the tv to watch it. Mine will only watch while sitting on an angled couch if I get them to sit first.

Good to know. I know I've never tried it that way before.

Maybe it's because the house where had the angled sofas was where Dina Caliente was living, and she was probably already sitting down when she decided to switch the tv on!
