Gnome gravestone invasion

I got gnome gravestones popping left and right on my lot. So far I haven't seen any new ones appear for several sim days. I don't have any of the regular Mysterious Mr. Gnomes that are supposed to spawn offspring, age and then die. I do have two inventor gnomes, a time travel gnome and several laundry gnomes though. None of them died, they're all still there. I believe I counted five of these gravestones so far. I noticed that they move around as well. 

I guess I can just sell them or throw them in an inventory if they bother me too much but so far they're not really a nuisance I'm just confuzzled.

Think you get all the dead gnomes from around the world, they are a handy way of getting more dosh.

I don't play any other families in that world and I don't think story progression spawns mysterious gnomes for the other families.

ETA: I'm not sure if this is related to this problem but I got freezer bunny gnomes now spawning on a lot in Appaloosa. I got two after a sim-week of playing. Is my game FUBAR? There are four of them now.
