Duplicate Character Stubs

So I did something stupid and moved an occupied lot into the lot bin, then immediately moved it back into the neighborhood. As a result, I have some duplicate character files, among a few others, probably. However, my sims aren't terribly sociable, so I think it might be pretty feasible for me to pull up SimPE and delete the new duplicate files.

1. Can I safely delete the character files that aren't updating as I play?
2. Is there anything else I might want to/can delete?
3. Or is my neighborhood FUBARed entirely, and should I just give up now?

Your neighborhood is now corrupt.  There's no way to fix it.  I hope that you have a backup.
