How do you set the config to get two barrel names for children and married people? Or at least for married people so I know who they were before they got married.

You mean to make the kids have hyphenated names? John Goth-Pleasant, for instance? That sounds like something that after a few generations would quickly become untenable. Can't you make parents for your sims and have them in the family tree with her previous last name, so you can keep track of that?

There's no option to create names like that, because this would result in an exponential explosion of hyphenation. Therefore, I consider this particular plan a short-sighted idiotic plan that is best not attempted.

No, but like in real life, they would drop one each generation. Lots of countries do that.

That sounds... unnecessarily complicated. How do you determine which name is dropped and which one is kept? What if someone dies and their spouse later remarries? (I have no idea if AM will do that, but I know I do it to my sims all the time.)

Seriously, just do it manually. You don't even have to do it through city hall-- I think the "edit sim" cheat will let you change their first and last names.

That was just to track the sims that get married. Sometimes I want a daughter to go to the ancestral home when parents or grandparents are dead, and can't find her.
I'm not getting any younger, and/or can't play regularly.
How do I get the women to keep their names, then?

If the woman proposes, her husband gets her name. If you want her to keep her name, make her propose first!

Why don't you just turn on the radar for people you care about? Or check the family trees now and again to find the current name. You're making it more complicated than it should be.
