Long initial load time since most recent patch

I recently updated my game to the latest patch(1.8/2.3, I believe), and kept my arr'd content by pointing to the .dbc files in my resource.cfg.  I did both of these actions at the same time, then ran the game again, and it takes ages to load the game.  I open the .exe(not the launcher), my screen goes blank, and then it takes several minutes for the intro video to begin to play.  Before I patched and converted to .dbc, it took under 30 seconds to get that far.  All other loading times seem normal.  Is this a known problem, either due to loading from .dbc or the recent patch, and is there anything I can do to fix it?

I did run a search of this site through google, but I didn't find my problem.  I found a lot about keeping your files in .package format causing general lag in all modes, but that is not my problem, and is in fact the reason I used the .dbc method instead of just extracting my store files to .package format.

.dbc files are basically just big .package files with everything squished together. Combining them into big chunks usually helps, but not always. This would be where the search button and common sense would come in handy. Search, and follow the advice of what other people have already tried.

To clarify just a bit, it doesn't matter whether your files are .dbc or .package; what matters is the NUMBER of files that you have.  Search will provide a tutorial for combining files.
