Changing the location of the Downloads folder
« on: 2009 December 01, 15:04:14 »
THANKS THIS IS GREAT

Hey.

I've got 2 partitions, both C:\ and D:\, and C:\ is mainly only for windows and misc programs, while D:\ is for files that have got alot more GB (loads of music, several games).

I'd like to change the location of the Downloads folder to the partition D:\ since I do not have enough space to allocate all of the custom content I'd like to have, is there anyway I can do this?

Thanks in advance.

Yes, you can use a junction or symlink.  I typically use junctions, but they work the same as far as I can tell.

You can use junctions or symlinks to change the location of any folder without your programs being any the wiser.  For example, I didn't like my saved game folder being in "My Documents" so I moved the "Electronic Arts" folder to the "Saved Games" folder and made a junction in "My Documents" pointing to the new location.  You can also right-click on the junction and make it hidden if you don't want to see it.
