I read somewhere that sims are quite picky as to the hex value of their favorite color. Is there a list or a way to look up what said values are?

Unfortunately most of the game is now written in "gaming" type code which is not so easily read. So therefore someone who can read the "core" of the game would have to search for it if it isn't in the regular game files. (by the way if I completely botched the past statement please so smartly correct me as I'm in a sort of "my brain is malfunctioning" right now mode.

So don't shoot me for not exactly answering your question. Undecided But the most knowledgable answer would be to look up (google?) the hex value for the basic colors (red, blue, black, white) and use those on clothes, furniture.
That's an interesting question though, as I hadn't really thought of the fact that you could dress them in their favorite colors or whatever...

Well the primary colors should be pretty easy, right? FF0000 for red, 00FF00 for green, 0000FF for blue would be my guess, and black and white along those lines too.

Rights, Googling it assuming he/she didn't know that much pertaining HTML type colorings Smiley It might also work it you typed "basic maroon hex values".

It's my understanding that favorite colors were incompletely coded, so that sims have no response or way to recognize the color in use. I don't remember where I saw that, though.

I have not noticed any effect. A Sim with red as favourite colour placed in a completely red room, with red furniture, while wearing red clothes, gets no buff or moodlet that the same Sim with other clothes in another room does not.

But did you then try deleting everything and replacing it with (more expensive) blue stuff? ~_^

After the giant colour thread on sims 2, I'm waiting for hard, code evidence before I subscribe to any colour theories.

Red is actually my (current) favourite colour, but placed in a red room, with red furniture, wearing red clothes, I think I would quickly get an "insane" trait, not just buff. So maybe it's not that bad that they didn't finish that code...

I've seen two sims chatting on the bed about their favorite colors. Do not remember if that resulted in any negative bubbles. Favorite food only has a use when another sim rolls want to cook your sims' favorite meal. Favorite music decides which radio station the sim will always turn on. I imagine most players have sounds muted though.

I experimented a bit to see if maybe dressing other sims in another's favorite color had anything to do with attraction.  Each had two different traits in common and he hooked up with the same girl twice.  This means nothing, though, because of the traits system.  I suspect that some are more heavily weighted than others.  But it would be interesting to see the results of a real test.

Don't know how close these are to what EA used but try this: http://www.december.com/html/spec/colorhex.html

I don't really know if it makes that much difference to a sim.

Favorite music decides which radio station the sim will always turn on.

The moodlet for their favorite station is twice the benefit of the normal "enjoying music" moodlet.

I hate when my sims roll this want.  They never seem to roll it for anyone they actually live with, so I'm supposed to be writing down the fav foods of the whole hood?  It should be something that is discovered and recorded in the relationship pannel like thier job and traits.

I read somewhere that sims are quite picky as to the hex value of their favorite color. Is there a list or a way to look up what said values are?

You probably read that on Sims3wiki, where they also list the hex value for blue - and they got that wrong.  So I wouldn't trust their info that sims are picky about the colour.  As far as I can tell, the colour only matters during socialising when two sims discover they share a colour in common (much like when they discover they share a trait in common).

You can find the precise hex values of the colours using Neighbourhood Workshop (available at MTS2).
- find a sim who has the colour you want to identify as their favourite colour.  As an example, if I wanted to find the value for turquoise I'd choose my sim Ysabet, who has turquoise for her favourite colour
- look that sim up in Neighbourhood workshop and look at the value for their favourite colour.  You should see a 10 digit number.  For Ysabet the number was 4278228405
- convert that 10 digit number to hexadecimal, the calculator built in to windows can do this.  4278228405 (decimal) is FF0095B5 (hexadecimal).
- you should now have an 8 digit hex code, starting with FF.  Drop the leading FF and you will have the hex code for the colour.  The hex code for turquoise is 0095B5.

A list of hex codes for the favourite colours (although I may have made transcription errors here, so feel free to check for yourself):
Blue 294294 ███
Aqua 00A2E0 ███
Turquoise 0095B5 ███
Spice Brown 4C2916 ███
Green 026344 ███
Irish Green 007B59 ███
Lime 43BD2C ███
Grey B0B5B9 ███
Orange EE7D3B ███
Purple 61207A ███
Spiceberry 6B1D51 ███
Violet 9F2184 ███
Lilac 8E7CB6 ███
Pink F894AE ███
Hot Pink E9398E ███
Red D6252B ███
White FFFFFF ███
Sea Foam 0EE6DE ███
Sea Foam E0E6DE ███
Yellow FFF700 ███
Black 000000 ███

EDIT: to fix sea foam, as per my post below.

Sea Foam 0EE6DE ███

that looks nothing like sea foam in game.  It should be a sort of cloudy white.

Are you saying that the color next to her code looks nothing like the sea foam in the game, or that when you use the hex code given in the game, it isn't the right color? Because the game may be rendering the color according to some unique EAxian standard. Unless there was a typo in Kyna's post, though, the code doesn't lie.

Thanks for the effort, Kyna. I'm not inclined to mess with NW because of my fear of borkage, and I did want this info just in case the colors become relevant at a later date. I can see how close my guesses were for some of them, too!

I agree that that one doesn't look right in the game.  I didn't use copy/paste, so there are several places where I could have made a transcription error or typo.  Double-checking it now.

EDIT: Used copy/paste this time, to rule out transcription errors.  Miraj Alvi has sea foam as his favourite colour.  Neighbourhood Workshop lists his favourite colour as 4279166686.  Converting that to hexadecimal gives ff0ee6de.  Dropping the leading FF, makes the hex code for sea foam: 0EE6DE, which is what I had before.

I don't know why in-game it looks nothing like the "sea foam" favourite colour.  I wonder if it's something screwy about pre-mades?  Maybe I should try assigning that colour to a CAS sim to see if I get a different result.

EDIT2: No, I get the same result with Tessa McTesty, so it's not that the first sim was a pre-made.  Perhaps it's just the way it's displayed as a favourite, with the colour being obscured by the cloudiness all the displayed favourites have.

EDIT3: Further experimentation and I discovered that if I swap the first two digits around I get E0E6DE ███, which in-game looks a lot closer to sea foam.  So I suspect there is a transcription error, although it isn't mine.  Although I have no code evidence to support the change, I am changing the list above to use this value for sea foam.

I'm inclined to use the "wrong" code, anyway, if that's the one that's stored by the game in save files. They probably meant to use the lighter one, which better befits the description of seafoam, and somehow after they'd saved their little swatch-graphics they fucked it up. So, my guess is that the game (if it ever does so) will look for the code you found, rather than the one that matches the swatch.

Of course, it's all probably moot as they'll likely never enable the effects of favorite colors, anyway. But I do try to use them, even if only to identify objects intended to belong to specific Sims in a household.

http://catless.ncl.ac.uk/Lindsay/swatch0.html

I've used that set of pages for colors for some time now for web page colors, etc. The colors and numbers are fairly true (at least on my monitors).

Thought I'd offer that up in case anyone wants hex numbers for more than just the favorite colors. They can make altering color pallettes of patterns easier and more precise, too.

I'm inclined to believe that the Seafoam is supposed to be the greenish color, if only because I remember using Crayola crayons called "seafoam green" that were a light, bluish green.  I think EA just screwed up the hex value for the favorite color swatch.
